..or objectivists.. wikipedia reviews various stances of solipsism, but i would never bother refuting anyone incapable of acknowledging reality.

vurt's a mason. he'll tell you it was his dad or something. there aren't any non-masons posting on kvr, they've all been corralled or hornswoggled, or are smarter than i and couldn't be f**ked with it.

i would especially advise looking out for anyone who seems to be celebrated as popular or fun or knowledgeable. "software is the future of the music industry".

xoxos, to add to your Tagore quote: Laying a path down in walking. I do not know where that comes from. I saw it in a piece about cognition and human understanding.

"Those who believe in substantiality are like cows; those who believe in emptiness are worse. " Saraha.

Some people do not acknowledge reality as existing independently from the doings of an observer.

Heinz von Foerster: The reality game: First, there must be at least two players who want to play it. They must create a large board with lots of objects on it which they agree to call "The World." Then they put themselves on this board and invent a set of rules for the objects. These rules they agree to call "The Laws of Nature." If, during the game, it turns out that the rules they applied in creating the objects don't jive with the rules that they invented to play with the objects, they change these objects or change "The Laws of Nature."
Now they can play. The goal of the game is for both to agree on how they themselves shall move on the board, even under disagreement. It is clear that A can win only when B wins and vice versa. For if B loses, A is lost, too. Then reality disappears and the nightmares begin.

You shouldnt really have said that, xoxos genuinely will file you under 'enemy' and regurgitate it against you in future. In his head you just, quite literally, declared yourself part of his imagined war against him; that's how he thinks. He phrases it like its humour so he can get away with it here, but he really does believe it.
And no, vurt's not a mason, its just that xoxos just adds everybody who ever disagreed with him even slightly to his list of 'masons' so that he can reiterate his retcon'd backstory about the masons being out to get him.
I wouldnt indulge him; in his private rewrite of history, those who actually bother to help him out or support in any way at any point in time are the ones he eventually really turns on.

No, only in the present will you die (and maybe not even then... :hihi: )

All semantics and perspective play aside, Gonga's post about the merits of science on the previous page is truly excellent.

Science, philosophy and faith viewpoints are all valid ways to judge our existence.
And surely it is of benefit to appreciate the strengths of each, and to switch between perspectives.

In terms of human progress, science has contributed most to human progress - eg with health, sanitation and education - in the past 2-3 centuries.
However, philosophy and faith also played a huge part in shaping the human journey prior to science.

The nonsense of the man-made power struggle known as 'religion' on the other hand has been nothing but a greedy bloodbath for centuries. Religion has very little to do with a person's faith. If this message was more widely appreciated, perhaps we wouldn't be in such a pickle today.

As for reality: how do we want it to work for us, so that we can be happy?

Here endeth this Sunday's preaching...

In my childhood I distinctly remember on BBC news the recommendation that people should wear their clothes the normal way one day and then the next day wear them inside out. Also people were recommended to half cook their food and then pack it in newspaper to finish cooking. We had a big supply of candles. Do you remember the energy crisis?
vurt wrote:surely if you wash the underpants you can step in to them again? unless youre rich and buy new ones for every day, not that youd have to be megarich of course, just i cant see why youd buy new underpants every day unless you had more money than sense, you could spend the cash on something a bit more worthwhile like a couple of cds a week or something for the kitchen, theres always a nice set of pans or a garlic press.
yeah i remember the energy crisis, candles and cooking on a camping stove. sleeping under coats in winter. great days 8)

I did go to a meeting once many years ago, though I was only there helping out with the catering.
From my point of view at the time, it appeared to be a bunch of old men eating a lot and getting very drunk.

Actually its just enough for him to claim you have one in your family tree, just like he's just done with vurt. Once he's decided that, it becomes retconned into his history of you. What will happen in the future - "This thing I have decided, I now remember it has always been this way."

yes, i suggest try fixing it by placing eleven consecutive orders for a product from someone who has already told you they will never do business with you.

:)

it's funny, every time sean and i get into it, even though i'm the pariah, sean has always been the one that gets banned during such proceedings

i like how he keeps on me. j/k

Retcon. But no, you never told me any such thing, until after tying up my funds in Paypal's refund process. I mean, you chose not to use Paypal's 'here's why there's a refund' capability for a reason.
Hence me posting in your forum to find out what the problem with your shopping cart/payment system was, only to ultimately discover you were doing it deliberately.

And its not as though you'd never been privately happy to take my money, help, advice, etc at various other points in time when you were publically playing at being pissed off at me. You were always quite two-faced about that, when it served your purpose.

More retcon. It's funny, given that ive never been banned during any argument with xoxos ever.
i like how he keeps on me. j/k
Perhaps if you didnt jump into threads, apropos of utterly nothing except your need to place yourself at the centre of things, to shriek 'help help, you're one of them masons and you is after me' at people then I wouldnt feel like putting your abject lunacy in the historical context you've spent so long trying to rewrite.

(edit for spelling)
