I switched to LPX when I was on Mavericks, now I'm on Yosemite and it's faster on Yosemite but even faster since 10.2.

Probably on Yosemite, but on Mavericks not really, as far as overall snappiness goes, startup is faster tho.aMUSEd wrote:I switched to LPX when I was on Mavericks, now I'm on Yosemite and it's faster on Yosemite but even faster since 10.2.
Update: 20th May 2015: Logic Pro 9 working okay for some users under Yosemite 10.10.3.. though not optimally.... but that's because Yosemite adds/makes a much high demand on system resources For others however, the combo of Yosemite and LP9 is still proving to be unstable so bear this in mind. Ensure any hardware drivers used are fully compatible with 10.10.3 before upgrading to Yosemite.

Well I don't use Logic 9 at all now, it is very slow and I much prefer the LPX interface now I'm used to it, although it's still on my system.

That's natural at this point, but because did used them both on same machine and fairly new OS version side by side really object about snappiness remark, sincerely I'm surprised abandoned 9 (in 2012) is even working on newer OS X versions, even more how good it worked out against X on it.aMUSEd wrote:Well I don't use Logic 9 at all now, it is very slow and I much prefer the LPX interface now I'm used to it, although it's still on my system.
It's established on Yosemite is officially mess, so yeah, it was good run, 10.9.5 is now officially dead for 10.2.3 users anyways, still it's good to know that for compatibility sake with some 3rd party apps and 9 it's still doable option, Mavericks proved to be really good overall it seems, shame they killed it for X users.

Opened some older L9 projects today as I needed to check some things and didn't want to re-save them in LX, and I was rather shocked about the terrible graphics, the sluggishness and overall appearance, not to name all the missing features compared to version 10, I can't believe I spent so many years with version 9 and even wrote two full orchestral scores with it.

It's not made for retina and Yosemite obviously.Sampleconstruct wrote:Opened some older L9 projects today as I needed to check some things and didn't want to re-save them in LX, and I was rather shocked about the terrible graphics, the sluggishness and overall appearance, not to name all the missing features compared to version 10, I can't believe I spent so many years with version 9 and even wrote two full orchestral scores with it.
But please guys enjoy, I had an itch for it and got over it, who knows what future may bring, still happy on oldie for my humble needs.

Yeah but LP9 was terribly slow on Mavericks too, way before I switched to LPX, then Yosemite. That's why I had pretty much stopped using it, until Apple added Alchemy and then I had no choice because I wasn't prepared to stop using Alchemy.

Don't know really, different machine and OS from mine, so I couldn't be that objective, 10.2.2 seemed less snappier to me there tho really for what is worth, but agree, it looks old somehow and because of big screen did saw some aliasing and it looked somehow tiny compared.aMUSEd wrote:Yeah but LP9 was terribly slow on Mavericks too, way before I switched to LPX, then Yosemite. Yeah, Alchemy intrigued me too, also MIDI effects and few other things, but maybe it were new thing shock there too, sure OCD kicked in too, but somehow I always reached things without even looking in 9, but in X it wasn't that easy, did few real world project tests (composing, mixing stems and etc.) and final verdict is that I'm freaked out and can get things done more comfortably in 9, even if I did cherished some stuff, not worth it at this point in time, also Alchemy didn't blew me away enough (never used it before that), but it's good stock plugin to have nonetheless, can see why someone who digs it would be all over X without blinking.

unless you buy a new machine with the new os pre installed, with no easy way to downgrade. I would do this if it was possible, but it just can not be done easily. but confirm, strange behaviours with the latest incarnation of logic and the os (cpu spikes on one thread while attempting to scroll the project, I described in other topic).aMUSEd wrote:Yes that's what I do, I upgraded to Yosemite when El Cap came out.Not touching El Capitan yet. It's always best to stay about a year and a half behind on OS releases. Totally no need to upgrade every year. No one forces you to upgrade every year.
so it seems to me now, that I need to wait a year or so for the soft to get stable...

I doubt it will be a year... It is their OS and DAW so I guess they will have it sorted quicklyadn_01 wrote:

but yeah, Apple should make it easier to install previous OS'es if the current one is having some trouble with specific software. El Cap definitely has had some issues with audio stuff. On my laptop it works great, but I have done only a little bit of audio work (Bitwig - only have Logic on my Audio machine)... lots of everything else (video, photography, graphics etc) and El Cap has been great... super solid and fast.

That was on my music laptop which still has Mavericks installed, not on my studio Mac Pro which runs Yosemite.Zexila wrote:It's not made for retina and Yosemite obviously.Sampleconstruct wrote:Opened some older L9 projects today as I needed to check some things and didn't want to re-save them in LX, and I was rather shocked about the terrible graphics, the sluggishness and overall appearance, not to name all the missing features compared to version 10, I can't believe I spent so many years with version 9 and even wrote two full orchestral scores with it.

Great response TheoM, guess he is one of the few that can actually and probably did compared all versions of Logic and OS X he could on his/same machine (which I saw in other post somewhere around goes back to 10.6), personally for me 9 works great on 10.6.8 and 10.6.8 works great overall.
There's no way for me to run anything newer (except 10.7) on this machine, so I can only visit someone who got both and get few hours of testing, which I did already, but it turns out, on system that is mess for 9, so yeah.
Overall, one should (if he can of course) run his main DAW on system that gives him the best experience for it (which in this case is 10.6.8 for 9.1.8 ), second, it's not fair to compare version that is not made to work on particular OS with one that is, it's Apple, backwards compatibility is not their thing, issues are than unavoidable and not surprised on findings in this case.
But as stated Logic 9.1.8 on 10.6.8 is comparable experience to best X and OS X combo, so in a way it's not that Logic X got much faster, but 9 got more messy (OS X got more messy) on anything above 10.6.8 and as stated by Theo and X was even worst until 10.1, so it's a case of just sad reality, things aren't getting much faster, just more messy and than fixed somewhere down the road, still not ideal.
So to sum this up, guys that run Logic 9 on anything above 10.6.8 are doing themselves disservice and if they really want to have optimal thing, go back to it or just upgrade to X now, it's unavoidable if one needs to stay on Logic without much issues with newer OS and for 3rd party compatibility sake, time goes on.

So, how long will you use Logic Pro 9? I still run into people using Logic Pro 7. For a long time, I knew people still on OS9 too. But seriously, don't you think eventually you will want new hardware and would want to take advantage of new features and bug fixes?Zexila wrote:That's crazy, 10.9 is not even 3 years old.woodsdenis wrote:Be CAREFUL
Compatibility 10.10 or later.
Logic 9 is last one for me, that's for sure.
