I had a feeling there would be an early update when I saw the Sonar forum looking like this...

Sure enough - Update 1 for SONAR 2016.09 is now available!

How's that working out for you? http://forum.cakewalk.com/New-201609-up ... 95716.aspx

Ignorance is bliss. I'm sure one of them will be along to sort me out!

Early updates are always a roll of the dice. Some are solid, others not so much.

Thankfully, there are those users who always have to install an update the second it rolls out...

They do the rest of us (who stay a month or so behind) a great service... :P

I don't think the above was referring to an 'early update' as in the 'early release' of the upcoming official update, but the actual 'official' update which had issues requiring a second quick update, which by the way may be requiring another quick update to fix further issues with the 'official' update, at least according to Noel Borthwick

Sort of like an update for the update of an update, or a patch for the patch of a patch if you will

Shi-hit.........

X2 had all those problems w/o updating/spending another cent

I've been using the latest update for a week, and have not experienced any of those issues. Then again, my DAW is fairly streamlined as far as Windows' Services and things I don't need.

I'm not a Cakewalk fanboi; I just haven't had those problems, and I've run three different and relatively large (in terms of number of plug-ins or tracks) projects in that time.

That is beyond cool. Honestly, it's not to say that every-single person has them. But at this point in time, too MANY do. That should be a concern.

Tingle, tingle.

True, but this probably also happens after Cubase, Digital Performer, Ableton, Logic and Reason updates, too. I doubt all the other DAWs have flawless update records.

Still, all the developers should take a little more time to beta-test the updates. Just as they learned as freshmen med students: "First, do no harm".

The problem with beta testing is it only really gives you access to a small range of use cases and most beta testers also tend to be pretty computer savvy so know how to troubleshoot problems and keep well maintained computers. So they don't always see problems that affect releases into the general population. Public beta testing might be an idea though, that opens things up but the downside is it's hard to manage and get useful feedback due to low contact with the development team. I've often thought there should be a semi public beta testing phase where there is a wider circle of testers but still in direct communication with the developers.

That is sort of what the early releases are that Cakewalk have been doing for a while now, and they are picking things up, and when it is a fairly major issue, or something that will affect a large number of users, to their credit they do fix it fairly quickly.

With a hard deadline of a release every single month, this is unfortunately inevitable, and personally I'd suggest that anyone concerned about stability issues as a result of that pace should really update on a delayed or less frequent basis.

Exactly, let the other suckers users try it first :)

So wait, you are bitching because an update had a few bugs that needed fixed... and they patched them?
FFS you guys are really stretching your reasons to bitch about Sonar.

Maybe if you didn't have to download the whole program again at 500 MB a pop, the "updates" would be less onerous. To be fair, Cakewalk isn't the only developer that I have this grievance with. I'm looking at you FL Studio. :D
