Of course, funnies, and all that, but, if a firm wants credit for not giving out a lame gift, then it needs to be two things: 1) a gift, and 2) not lame. I know, seems obvious, but I'm not sure that it really is, at least to some firms.

What it doesn't have to be is big or expensive. NI's Replica, was cool and not lame, it would have been cooler if it had fewer bugs. SoundToys Tremolator might have been the least lame gift ever. IMHO, NI's last couple of Christmas gifts have been more lame than in the past.

They could put their M12 filter into an effect plugin with a beat synced LFO, that would be cool, not lame, and not big and expensive.

I'd say Eventide's UltraChannel tops Tremolator. And Waves One Knob Louder tops them all.

Maybe they will just announce that they have donated €5000 to their favourite charity, and ask us to do the same:

The Human Fund :D

Yes, because free things serve a purpose to a firm. The point of them is that they want our attention. So, if everyone is trying to get your attention with free "gifts," then the least lame of those free "gifts" will be more likely to get attention.

Sorry, it's not quite the same thing as mom and dad pretending to be Santa.

I like UltraChannel, and I use it a lot, but, when they gave it away it was 32 bit only. All of SoundToys giveaways have been solid products at time of giveaway. This isn't a strong argument mind you, I think that I qualify as an Eventide fan given that I own 100% of their current plugin product line.

I suppose that Stereo Room was pretty solid a couple of months ago. Yeah, I'm pretty happy with Eventide, two solid giveaways that they allowed me to use to upgrade to their full bundle. What? Who does that?

See kids, that's how you do giveaways. You make it a real "not lame" gift and people will then get excited about what you do and buy more of your stuff. That's the point. If it's lame, then people will just think that you're lame. This goes for magware as well.

On that final note, shout out to Madrona Labs, AaltoCM might be my most used CM synth. You're on my radar

Arturia seem to use similar marketing strategies to Soundtoys...so it wouldn't surprise me if they offered a free synth from a selection of their older products.

When Soundtoys offered the excellent Tremolator for free, the intention was clearly to gain new customers, and then try to tempt them to upgrade to the full collection through special offers obtained within their account. This is obviously a great way to keep advertised price high and bypass resellers.

Having built up our expectations, Arturia certainly now need to deliver :D

To the best of my recollection, Arturia has only given away one gift in recent years, the Minimoog. Which I have, somewhere, but whatever.

I don't mean by giving stuff away, but by offering sweet deals within a user's account to upgrade to full collections. Plenty of peeps having picked up a cheap 2nd-hand Arturia license become potential collection owners at the right price.

That is the issue with that freebie, it never registered on our accounts. So if you lose it, you're just out it.

I have the Minimoog original in my Arturia account.

I hope the freebie is the Arp2600 without the sequencer and extra fancy features like morphing and effects etc. That would be great. While I never thought it did the ARP2600 all that authentically, it is one of my favorites, if not my favorite, for the warm "Arturia" sound. And I love the Notch filter. Great pads and ambient stuff too. Since it's their second oldest of the bunch, it's possible right?

I thought it was pretty lame the year that NI let you download one ringtone of your choosing from a list of a few.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.
