Hi Norbz. Thanks for the library :hug:
Download was smooth and stable, about 25/30 minutes (my connection is generally slow here, so 2.5 giga of stuff dl in that time is ok).
Yesterday I had time only to quickly go through few presets for just a bunch of minutes but I really enjoyed all the sounds :tu: and all the editing options available.
Nice touch to be able to see inside the scripting.
Hopefully today I will spend much more time to dig it and playing with it.
GUI is very nice and easy to use.
Thanks a lot once again. :phones:

Just reading over everyones comments, thank you guys this is great for me.

I'll see about upping the sounds or maybe include another module with the atmosfire/orkestra sounds (I did use them, but not many of them, tried to cherry pick and use mostly new sounds not released yet).

A few ppl had issues w/their download link - you guys should be fine now too.

Thank you again for your time and comments, looking forward to more and to hearing some music you guys make.

Thanks very much Norbz!

Received the link and the download went fast (about 23 minutes).
Busy week ahead, but I'll be playing with it next weekend probably and report back.

Best of luck for you and your new library and have a great weekend!

The MIDI clips all seem to have random offsets to when they start, so when dragged into SONAR (either from inside Vivid or just dragging the MIDI file themselves) the MIDI appears way down the timeline.

They really all need to be trimmed so they start at 0 (I tried to see if I have any tools that could do that but came up empty). Might also be nice if they were renamed so that the file names had the BPM in them.

Would be nice if there was a play/preview/audition button on the Pattern Builder page.

Sounds good though. Thanks for giving this to people that bought your older VSTis. Logging in and downloading it was painless (since I kept my email receipt).

Yes, have tried a bit with the midis and can confirm msorrels and what I have never seen they are not only "too long" (which I have seen with some drum midi for example) but the start is empty for long time. So for a midi that might be 8 bars long for example it is 50 bars long when dragged onto the track, first 20 empty and last 22 (just to show the general problem) empty.

And I find it really hard to deal with the pitched midi cause of missing concrete pitch information so its hard to use them in general (or outside the complete songs). Maybe it is cause of my workflow but normally use patterns in ONE KEY, then I can transpose them to another key.

What would really brings this component up to a real song composition engine (and the whole packet of course) would be something to set general root/key of the song and then of patterns so that the included ones would be transposed INSIDE and all will make up a whole song OR an engine which could transpose the stuff at least to a root note/key. Lot of kontakt libraries with examples for different methods to do that kind of stuff but I dont know if it is/will be intended. It is just a little sad that in the way it is done now it dont really differs from just using a wave sample/loop.

Finally got to Login. Thanks Norbz. :)

Took an estimated 45 minutes to download. I was a bit worried about downloading such a large file in one go but it was no problem.

Just extracting now. No errors so far.

Next up, install and backup.

Is there a way to create a custom drum kit easily?
I was wondering if I could cherry pick unique sounds from each of the kits and lay them into an empty kit to create custom kit.
Really like the polyphonic rise/fall patches.
So far I've only gotten the last two x/y drop-downs to light up.
sfx/fills are quite habit-forming.
AIRFLUTE is semitone sharp and samples sound cutting off abruptly/prematurely in lower registers.
Edit: Seems to be in tune with some other patches, so maybe there's only variable inconsistency for certain ones. Also, increasing release time seems to fix the abrupt sound cutting off in lower registers.

Enormous Size. I had to move some things around my hard drives to accomodate it.

The few Presets I clicked through in A-VIVID-CONDUCTOR and A-VIVID-VOICES seemed like Lo-Fi Fairlight One-Shots spread over an octave(s).

I like a lot of the sounds in A-VIVID-DRUMS. However, I was in stand-alone mode and couldn't readily see a play button for the midi files under the PATTERN BUILDER. Drag and Drop was not of any use to me in that situation.

A-VIVID-808 For the first time, I noticed the animation light up when I pressed on the Virtual Keyboard using my mouse. Nice. :)

A-VIVID-LOOPER Took a while to load, even though I had already re-saved all of the NKIs and NKMs. Some cool stuff in there but I'm not sure I'll ever get to know exactly what. The short names and bpm info' are relatively informative but I'd need to look up a manual or something to see what each 'construction kit folder' contains. Maybe a Tab could be added with some descriptions per preset.

A-VIVID-1MAIN I don't know what the MY CODE tab is supposed to do. I double clicked on the 'My Knob/Label' thinking it might allow me to alter the text or something but it did not. Turning the knob didn't seem to do anything either.

Overall, I like the drum sounds best and the construction kits in LOOPER.

Cheers,

Thanks for the feedback.

Custom kits: Yes, using the MyInstrument, I actually do an example of EXACTLY that, taking a sound from one module, and putting it in the MyInstrument empty pre-made groups. You can repeat this process or copy/paste multiple sounds out of patches into your own (this goes for any sound in any module).

Here's the video example: (should start at 10:00min, if it doesn't go to 10:00min in).

Re the cutting off, unfortunately yes a lot of the sounds are stretched WAY past their 'sweet spot/range' and I cover this in the video too. They are not supposed to go that low however I have chosen NOT to cut off the keys to be naked and would rather something be there.. When certain sounds go too low or too high, they do seem to act funny or do things that you're not telling them to do.

Great feedback session thank you kindly!

Re the midi pattern builder. Unfortunately Kontakt is not there yet where we can preview midi files, you have to actually lay them to hear them. While there is no current work around (hmm maybe opening them in your OS and letting your computer preview them with its sounds but that won't really do it justice), they are still valuable and can be used with any instrument.

The MyCode is addressed on the previous page here, it's for you guys if you want to learn KSP - it's your first knob/label and you can take it from there.

Heya, Thank you for that!

This is quite strange. Can you please take a screenshot and post it? All the midi files are normal mid files and were exported as standalone bars no tails or heads (some might have a small tail as the last sound goes past the bar but they are small/8th/4th etc).

The midi files are in fact named by BPM first. In the full compositions the FOLDER of each track has the BPM, in the individuals often times the files have bpm's at the beginning of the filename (just took another look, and on next update we will do the rest of them you're right some don't have it especially on the FREESTYLED ones).

So when I use the MidiPatternBuilder in my tutorials, you get totally different results to those?

Thanks for confirming, can anyone else confirm that they are seeing it correctly like the video? And can I know what DAW's you guys are using that shows the head/tail?

I might have to do some testing with one of you to figure this out. Maybe what's happening is even though I'm selecting one bar and exporting it, it's taking the whole track and exporting the whole length, just not sure how some DAW's are dealing with it as intended and some doing the above. If you watch the video you'll see how they are supposed to be. Just small 2-4 bar pieces with no head/tail/offsets.

Setting root note/key for the track and for pattern = a little above my experience but yeah that would be great I'll do some digging to see if I can figure it out. It's all midi so you can change keys still but yeah you'll have to tinker per layer so I hear you.

Shame about the midi and that nobody caught it before we released. If we can't figure out a quick fix for all I might have to redo them and provide a new download just for the midi files for you guys to replace. I'd like to see/learn more about why this is happening first though.

I didn't take into consideration what automation data is recorded, and how, and what Mac vs PC vs DAW combinations will do with that data re midi. Sorry guys, first unforeseen but we'll fix it.

Thanks Norbz! I had some of the midi that appeared to be blank for several bars except for automation, but others had no ghost pre-roll and looked normal. A couple I tried didn't have midi data until many bars in to the track.

For the playing of MIDI files inside a Kontakt instrument you might want to take a look at Native Instrument's Studio Drummer. Its MIDI tab has a play/preview feature (and the script is open so you can see how they do it).

As for the offsets, while not every file has odd offsets, many/most of them do. I've been wanting to play around with Div's MIDI file library (http://www.sreal.com/~div/midi-utilities/ it's a C library that lets programmers read/write MIDI files). I think using it would be trivial to write a MIDI trim utility that would remove any silence from the start and end of a MIDI file. I think it could also rename the files to include the BPM in the name (and perhaps set the track name to the filename). Fixing 290 MIDI files by hand would take a while. Might try doing it tomorrow since with the rain it doesn't look like I'll be able to mow the yard.

If you run his smftoxml (turns a MIDI file into XML) on say VIVID\Resources\midifiles\2-DRUM-PATTERNS\FREESTYLED\D-JUNGLE-DNB1.mid you get this (first few lines):

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<MidiFile DivisionType="PPQ" Resolution="480">
        <Track EndTick="149760">
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="3" DataLength="8" Data="55 6E 74 69 74 6C 65 64"/>
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="4" DataLength="11" Data="74 72 61 70 2D 64 72 75 6D 73 31"/>
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="88" DataLength="4" Data="04 02 18 08"/>
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="89" DataLength="2" Data="00 00"/>
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="6" DataLength="9" Data="4D 61 72 6B 65 72 20 23 23"/>
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="84" DataLength="5" Data="21 00 00 00 00"/>
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="81" DataLength="3" Data="05 16 15"/>
                <NoteOnEvent Tick="15362" Channel="0" Note="52" Velocity="127"/>
See that first NoteOnEvent being at Tick 15362, that means the first note starts way in the timeline. Should be 0.

Some files are right though, like for example VIVID\Resources\midifiles\3-CHORDS\FREESTYLED\BASSGIT-CHORDx2.mid it looks like this dumped (see the first chord starts at tick 0:

Code: Select all

?xml version="1.0"?>
<MidiFile DivisionType="PPQ" Resolution="480">
        <Track EndTick="15268">
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="3" DataLength="6" Data="49 6E 73 74 20 34"/>
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="4" DataLength="6" Data="49 6E 73 74 20 34"/>
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="88" DataLength="4" Data="04 02 18 08"/>
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="89" DataLength="2" Data="00 00"/>
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="84" DataLength="5" Data="21 00 00 00 00"/>
                <MetaEvent Tick="0" Number="81" DataLength="3" Data="06 05 F1"/>
                <NoteOnEvent Tick="0" Channel="0" Note="72" Velocity="86"/>
                <NoteOnEvent Tick="0" Channel="0" Note="76" Velocity="84"/>
                <NoteOnEvent Tick="0" Channel="0" Note="81" Velocity="82"/>
