I remember a few years ago this guy on the 'net called Anton Maiden, an Iron Maiden fan who did covers of his heroes using cribbed MIDI files and recording his whiny voice on top of them. Apparently Maiden approved, there was one report that they once played Anton's songs as the music on the PA before they went on. (I just read, sadly, that Anton died recently).Markleford wrote:Sleek Month wrote: Another counter-idea: maybe muzak versions of metal classics? Hmm, sounds suspiciously like it was done by the same nutter who did this midi file I found on the winternet;

Oh, but it would've been cool if we'd provided some geetar sample fodder from the start that everybody had to use...
Hmmm....
You're the genius code writer...got anything cooked up where I could supply some short guitar samples and you could plop them into some sort of limited sample playback-thingy?
You could call it "chugger". It could be done with an upstroke and a downstroke in a few different keys and spread out between the remaining ones...
Hmmmm....

I don't have any Metel samples yet on my "Glooped" site. (though there are a few Crunchy guitar sounds)...I don't know what form this would take...I could play on people's tracks, I suppose, or post a set of guitar samples of some sort...any suggestions?
I'm going to experiment this weekend with turning my Amplifier up to 11 to produce some Metel sounds! I always stick my Guitar samples on my site, but if anyone else wants to share their Metel samples also I can stick them on my site too? I'll create a new "Metel" genre were people can grab the sample loops from.
Any interest?
Ben

I can't play guitar at all
I could ask to a friend of mine to put down some guitar stuff aswell....but i already know that he's already busy with conservatory exams (acoustic/classic guitar + he plays in a metal band).
Cheers
Small hint: if u need some kind of dark voices/chorus....fire up a mellotron vsti (set on the voice setting of course), add some fx and.....

I'd thought of that sort of thing before: it would be cool to create a sample-based "instrument of the month", and then make that the basis of the competition. Sort of what I'd hoped the fabled "KvR Rompler" would've turned into so long ago...Sleek Month wrote:You're the genius code writer...got anything cooked up where I could supply some short guitar samples and you could plop them into some sort of limited sample playback-thingy?
But wouldn't you know it, lack of cross-platform support would kill this idea instantly.
But yeah, "chugger": chug-up! chug-down! semi-tone up! back to root! harmonic sqeaaaaallllll!!!

Very tempting to playback the file using Nintendo/chip-music sounds!

Well, blaster's been on the laxatives then..blaster78 wrote:i've actually been messing all day.
given that the term 'heavy metal' was coined for the band 'Free', can I do a two minute version of 'All Right Then'?
I might try Link Ray's approach to distortion and stick a pencil through the speaker cones to get the right sound. Tho' since I do all my music with headphones it might be a tad painful.. but isn't metel supposed to make your ears bleed? may be I will do that...
I have my track mapped out in my head, just need to record it...
