You are right in most part, but we are talking about the "Super Saw" oscillator and not a whole JP80x0 emulation.

JP6K, Corona, Sunrizer, Diva. These are the VSTs that nail the Super Saw sound. The person who wrote that no software can replicate it is plain wrong and didn't do his/her research. Then there are the rest, Virus, Dune, Serum, etc that people say it can do a "Super Saw" just because they can layer multiple saws together but in reality its not a super saw, its more a generic unison sound.

How about sharing your guesses? :D
First three examples all matched very closely. The next three, if if recall, I think the jp8000 was clearly identifiable.

I think it's a bit like a 303 in some ways, so classic and widely used, that if it's not quite right you get an uncanny valley.

Of course my listening skills are probably not as good as I think they are. :hihi:

How about UnisonModeler in Kontakt?
It emulates the JP8k SuperSaw oscillator and it's the only one where you can use any waveform, wavetable or even samples. It's also more generic implementation where the number of saws, or other waveforms, is not limited to just 7.

No, idea I never tried it.

So on hearing the results - all I can say is that Hive does a pretty good job on the JP8000 sound. :hihi:

Got the raws tones all guessed right, and the patches all wrong way round :hihi: (maybe picking sounds closer to those from songs).

Great job U-he. The osc from Diva,, plus the Hive filter - win! :tu:

Interesting. Gotta try that out. :) I played with unison and the "Super" mode, but, never bothered to compare it to anything else.
Yeah, I'm not attuned to the sonic attributes so I don't know if it's accurate but the 'super' mode is supposed to emulate it.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

In the first comparison he did, the attack transients were a dead giveaway. They were much more pronounced on Hive.

Yeah, nice job on the raw patches. For the full patches, you did think that HIVE was the JP every single time, so yay HIVE.

And you don't need Diva cuz Hive can do it all!

Post

yeah, was much closer than I thought - and I think I was swayed by patches closer to sounds I recall from the past.

Well, I've used Diva a lot in the past few years. Hive, I didn't spend enough time to dig very deep, but I do think it sounds pretty great.
