Best LA-2A compressor VST?

Sorry I probably didn't word that very well!

The author of the plugin also says it's aimed at Bus duties. Don't get me wrong though, it's tweakable, so you can get somewhat more LA-2A-ish behavior out of it, with some work.

The author of the plugin also says it's aimed at Bus duties. Don't get me wrong though, it's tweakable, so you can get somewhat more LA-2A-ish behavior out of it, with some work.

no thats ok. i believe you when you say it doesnt sound like an la2a. i guess its inspired by it rather than being an emulation.

It's definitely one of the earlier plugins emulating a "hardware sound" with saturation etc.

I never used a hardware la2a, but ThrillseekerLA clearly has that smooth compression, that I associate with optos and that can also be found in other quality opto plugins. It works great on bass and vocals (like optos tend to do) and is also a great color box.

The TLS 1295 LEA is another great free option for opto / la2a style compression!

It might not be a 1/1 emulation. But LaLa does what it does very well.

Distressor emus can get close to LA2A, too afaik.
Waves RComp (opto mode) I like best

I don't know if it is LA-2A emulation but Dirty LA is great compressor. Underrated in my opinion.
