I don’t really like the sound of the Oberheim so not sounding like it could be a bonus

Monkeyboy getting a little too in to those strings
I know there are people out there who are autosexual
Do you think there could be somebody out there being a little too hands on after being driven to a fit of ecstasy from the lushness of all that sustain & release?

See at 15:40
But if it's just for the keybed, I'd probably wait for the controller-only version with the new PolyAT keybed, which should also include the ribbon controller, at a fraction of the price.

true, if the good lord had wanted polyphony he’d have given us more than one finger

I have to agree with many of the comments, that demo didn’t do Behringer any favors. Very harsh and nasty sounding. Not sure if it was the recording or the terrible choice of patches and sound design (all of the above?), but ugh, I’ll wait for some proper demos before I pass judgment on the synth, thanks.

Nothing wrong with a big poly analogue synths....as long as you don't want any other instruments on you track!WatchTheGuitar wrote: Sun May 15, 2022 3:54 pmtrue, if the good lord had wanted polyphony he’d have given us more than one finger
$1500 isn't cheap from what I have heard I would take the Novation Summit over this every time (which is good as I own one

In terms of polys I’ve got a Hydrasynth, Minilogue XD and a Deepmind 12.
At some point I’d like to sell all three and get some megapoly instead whether that’s a Quantum, Polybrute or whatever. I don’t think the perfect poly is out yet, but I keep hoping.
As I said I’m not a big fan of the Oberheims, but I am very interested in hearing that Prophet 16 they’re working on and the CS80 clone.

Anderton's demo - revisited
None of factory presets played at start sounded any good to me.
I understand the comment 'harsch' especially on the first one of pads.
But not uncommon since I think I kept 30-40 of 250 in Prologue. I listen for ideas if something special they did and how they did that.
But going through the unit from the left, up to filter part, was more than ok to me.
Then this filter selfoscillating thing which I don't get at all, I guess is a test of filter quality or something. I just hate that whistle sound. And this was not all clean, could be as suggested recording error there or internal volume turned up too much.
And problem was he used that selfoscillating all through the 8 vintage modes too, so again I understand harschness and crap sound there too. It should be a clean whistle, as I remember some presets in Prologue I have.
Then split keyboard, was quite alright for the most part.
So yes, demo was not that good. Maybe 25% I liked.
Possible reasons - no full calibration was executed maybe since they got it.
That quick tuning thing is just brief pitch check. But to make presets sound as when stored the unit must be calibrated is my guess. My DeepMind 6 I made full calibration once, and after 15 minutes it was not ready. So guess a 16 voice unit has plenty to do before a full calibrations is done, probably an hour. Hardly something they do for each production unit. Let user execute that after arrival and warm and in that humidity.
Preproduction unit - could be factory presets are to be fine tuned at bit still. Sounded pretty rough quick, if to look at how it could sound at first attempt before finetuning things. A little detune up the keyboard and such to smear a bit. Sometimes what I do in Polybrute anyway when too hard tone upper part when lower part is like I want it.
From his comments on manual, which I felt was as good for DeepMind as he described this one, this unit probably is planned as next big seller for Behringer. So a lot of fine tuning before hitting the shelfs in numbers.
I feel I just scratched the surface of Polybrute(had 8 months), so in no hurry to try new stuff. Curiosity never killed me. From in between in demo there is enough for anybody I think even if total was not a hit factory. Bit curious to hear what reviewers that bother making own presets can bring up, if J3PO get one of these too. I think at least one of my synths have something from him.
What I heard about Oberheim in general is that it's really fat nice bass lines in there. Pretty much what I know apart for recent demos. So no real relation to Oberheim from before or a specific model.
Impressed what they did with DeepMind, and sure some fine tuning left to do for UB-Xa. What Arturia did with Polybrute is way more rich in features, I can't believe what I still find in there. So no rush for anything else....

I’ve heard nothing but good things from, and about, the Behringer analog synths. In this case, I don’t think it’s necessarily the synth that sounds bad, but the selection of patches and the quality of the recording.Azbest wrote: Sun May 15, 2022 6:47 pm Oh come on, it's a behringer, you couldn't have seriously expected this to be any good.![]()
