How’s the resale value of Studio One these days? Considering letting go of my copy since the latest PT and Logic updates are worth more of my time (all of it actually - don’t open S1 now).

In the Sell & Buy forum here? Not too good. I usually see copies go for about $150, which would be too little for me, considering it is 399 €, when you buy it new from Presonus. I mean, OK, fair enough, if seller and buyer are fine with that. Not sure why it doesn't sell for more though, because, you won't get a Cubase license for less than 60% of the new price. It's a nice host. Probably doesn't have the big enough name, or something.5Lives wrote:How’s the resale value of Studio One these days? Alright, well first I heartily recommend that you sit closer to your screen...THE INTRANCER wrote:The tiny fonts, flatness, lack of natural gradients - i.e tabs, subtle transparency effects and overall precision to control colour/contrast/brightness at element level are all minus points in regard to Studio One 3 / 3.5.
I really hear what you are saying, but I think this newer design is intended for something like a 27" and larger screen at 4K resolution. Have you tried that?
There is that scaling parameter in the preferences. They are progressing here, in my view, and a modern monitor is gonna be needed, if not now, well, soon.
I feel that Studio One and Bitwig are similar to the latest Photoshop versions, in the sense that they are simply and unequivocally designed for modern screens and graphics cards...basically big screens at hi rez.
And yeah, quite agree about control over colours and contrast! This could and should be vastly improved. I can get it from green to blue to brown...back to green again...
WHAT?

$150 is probably in line with the current list price for crossgrade pricing to Studio One Pro at $199 USD. Resellers such as JRRShop are discounting the crossgrade to $167.16 USD.chk071 wrote:In the Sell & Buy forum here? Not too good. Mh... it says $299 here: https://shop.presonus.com/products/soft ... Crossgradezzz00m wrote: $150 is probably in line with the current list price for crossgrade pricing to Studio One Pro at $199 USD. Resellers such as JRRShop are discounting the crossgrade to $167.16 USD.
P.S.: Crossgrade is $199 at the moment on JRR Shop: https://www.jrrshop.com/presonus-studio ... ssgrade-v3 Seems like it's on a sale now. Regular price is stated as $299,95.Upon approval, you will be issued a coupon code, which you can then use to purchase Studio One Professional for the Crossgrade price of $299 USD.

Studio One's re-sale value has traditionally been horrible. I picked it up via the crossgrade offer back in the day, and then bought the 3.0 upgrade... so I'd lose over 50% on my investment if I tried to re-sell.5Lives wrote:How’s the resale value of Studio One these days? It averages $150 USD or less on the re-sell market.
I'll likely sit on my copy for that reason alone. We'll see what 4.0 brings, but I agree it's likely a long way away.

Actually, i wouldn't even lose money if i sold it for that now. I bought Studio One 2 Producer for roughly 50 € on the market place here, and upgraded, when the upgrades were on a sale, for ~92 € i think. I still think $150 is too little though, considering it is $399 regularly. No idea.
I'm wondering about the high upgrade prices. I'd pay 146 € for the upgrade to Studio One 4, considering the upgrade prices stay the same. That's quite a lot. I wouldn't even pay so much for an upgrade of Cubase Artist 9 to 10, and that's skipping the paid point release. If i would upgrade to 9.5 now, and then to 10, i'd pay 100 €. Dunno why it's that much for Studio One. Oh well, can always wait for a sale on the upgrades i guess.

JRRShop are further discounting the crossgrade to $167.16 USD, if you put it in the cart and use coupon code "group".chk071 wrote:

I saw somewhere recently that PreSonus had extended their year-end $199 offer...

Well if I could stretch the pair of 24" screens I have to that of a 27" screen size and pick a higher resolution, I'd give it a shotGrizzellda wrote:

Both Photoshop and Studio One's main top menu is configurable from the operating system preference options, so that's configurable to be more legible, however when it comes to the tabs for example, that isn't possible in the case of Studio One without forcing Hi-DPI that has adverse effects on usable screen estate.
Here's the comparison between Studio One 3.5 and Photoshop CS6's tabs at 1080P resolutions. Even though the text inPhotopshop is darker in colour, it's still clearer to read.

I fully agree, but probably for different reasons.ls1xxx wrote:They need to get this mess of a piano roll cleaned up!
First of all the zoom behavior of the Musical Editor is terribly clumsy. I zoom around hundreds of times more in Studio One's piano roll than I feel is necessary. Each time I open the editor again, add a new track or part or even when simply switching tracks or parts, I have to reposition the musical editor's view according to where I came from. It's peculiar time wasting behavior and I'm actually quite surprised this behavior was allegedly requested for version 3 by Studio One users (if anyone can explain to me what the benefit is, please do).
Then there's the opening of multiple Instrument parts. It's a poor design because you can't open multiple Instrument parts at once and still maintain the zoom state where you left it when closing the Musical Editor. So you always have to reposition the view of the editor when closing and opening the editor with multiple different parts, while working on the same section. Again time wasting behavior.
Not even talking about missing 101's like: consistent tool order behavior between arrangement and editor, easy active part switching, instant exclusive part editing, controller data following note data, etc. etc.

Guess I'll just hold onto it for now, but if 4.0 is a paid upgrade, will definitely have to think about how much more to invest in what is to me a second-tier DAW now.zzz00m wrote:JRRShop are further discounting the crossgrade to $167.16 USD, if you put it in the cart and use coupon code "group".chk071 wrote:

I really don't think that price is the only measure of a good DAW anymore.5Lives wrote:Guess I'll just hold onto it for now, but if 4.0 is a paid upgrade, will definitely have to think about how much more to invest in what is to me a second-tier DAW now.zzz00m wrote:JRRShop are further discounting the crossgrade to $167.16 USD, if you put it in the cart and use coupon code "group".chk071 wrote:

Look at Logic Pro X, probably a great example of a top tier DAW. How can anybody compete with that, when Apple is basically giving it away for $199.99 USD, one of the best DAWs on the market!
I think Cubase is a bit over-priced. Even with the crossgrade pricing, you still have to buy a stupid dongle to authorize it.

You have to buy an overpriced dongle to run it thoughzzz00m wrote:
