Songs you've had stuck in your head lately

I'm curios, when you get a song stuck in your head is it the full song or a loop of part of the song?
Is it the main melody?
Is it the main melody?

Yes, in variable ways. Sometimes it's the hook, sometimes the chorus, sometimes the verse or intro. Can be the music itself or the lyrics (usually with music, but not always.) Sometimes the only way to get it out is to play the whole thing. Like how I get a ringing in my ears to stop is by matching the note and moving up chromatically from there.PatchAdamz wrote: Thu Mar 04, 2021 3:58 pm I'm curios, when you get a song stuck in your head is it the full song or a loop of part of the song?

It sometimes has competing phrases from different songs, which can be especially productive as they settle into their own little roux as a basis for a new tune.
There's a belief that we only play what we've played before and derive our own style from what we listen to while dismissing the rest. Hence the term, "derivative". So I listen to as much as I can to find ways not to dismiss it. And even set a time period in my practice to play outside what my fingers know. Especially engaging and enhancing the mistakes.
Some nice things have come from it all. Although it means having to wait for my fellow gig mates to catch up in the thinking.

It usually loops just a few lines but when I first become aware of it it feels like it has been there for ever.PatchAdamz wrote: Thu Mar 04, 2021 3:58 pm I'm curios, when you get a song stuck in your head is it the full song or a loop of part of the song?

for me it can be any part of the song, sometimes the main melody, sometimes the verse, other times just a sound from part of it that leads to a loop of it starting in my head, etc.PatchAdamz wrote: Thu Mar 04, 2021 3:58 pm I'm curios, when you get a song stuck in your head is it the full song or a loop of part of the song?

I find the loops of one song will morph into another song that is in the same key, doesn't matter the difference of genres or artist.Erisian wrote: Thu Mar 04, 2021 5:53 pmIt usually loops just a few lines but when I first become aware of it it feels like it has been there for ever.PatchAdamz wrote: Thu Mar 04, 2021 3:58 pm I'm curios, when you get a song stuck in your head is it the full song or a loop of part of the song?
