I wouldn't call CPU usage mad at all.
You get no CPU spikes, nothing?

I have a feeling that what I experience is not normal. Because, sometimes the CPU usage definitely is low, and then it jumps up like mad.

And, yes, I do have the high performance power plan activated.
The spikes are there because the DSP is running in a high priority backgroud thread. If the DSP is fast enough, the DAW will report a very low CPU consumption, even though this is not really true. If the DSP is too slow, it will report 100% instantly.

Improvements will come with time, but at the moment our main focus is the GUI :)
Thanks for the heads up. :tu: I'll give it a go again when it has matured a bit.

Same here.

I guess it somehow identifies the people who wanted "virus in the box" the most and pokes fun at them

What's your CPU? i5? i7? Hyperthreading?
It's an Intel Xeon E3-1230 v3, with 4 physical cores, and 4 virtual ones. It's pretty ancient, 2013, and it was a rather mid tier CPU back then. Meant for servers, but, it works great for anything else as well. Never had an issue with games, for example.

I'll probably have a new PC next year, but, I also hope that this can be optimized. And, especially, that it will run multi DSP ROM's one day. The thought of having the Virus, Supernova, and Waldorf Q, running nicely on the PC, OMG. :) Heaven.

If this matures into an actually useable plugin, with a GUI and all, I may consider upgrading
I couldn't believe either, but i7 sliced my resource usage significantly, especially with Diva, seems like it evens out the performance to all cores and I can't hit the maximum even in full blown projects, before that few Diva's could easily do it from the get go. When I was buying this PC i7 costed significantly more, so I went with i5, was ready to get new machine, but decided to try to upgrade to best thing I could get for the old socket and got amazing thing going on for peanuts.

I had to uprgade urgently the other week as my old PC just suddenly died, so i bought the best thing I could afford at the moment, unfortunately it was only i5.

I still have an actual Virus so I don't urgently need a substitute for it, but if this project continues to mature and develop, I'll definitely uprgade to i7 just in order to be able to use it.

Anyway, it's amazing that they managed to pull it off :tu:

I had fun testing it today in Ableton Live 10.
So far, very unstable. My favourite bug is when note plays again after key release and good old hanging notes.
Also, I don't know if it's an issue with NI M32 controller (highly possible as it's a piece of junk), but it seems that assigned MIDI CC parameters once are working; the other time, they don't + some parameters are changing randomly(?)

I'll follow the evolution of this Emulator. It's a really great thing.

Excellent project.

No worries!! please take your time!! everyone is really excited, but take your time in getting everything right and lowering the CPU intensity as much as possible :)

Trying the VST version on mac and it can't be opened on OSX 10.14 as is from an unidentified developer.

Tried forcing it to open in system preferences but it still won't work.

Edit: Just tried the AU version and I get the same response.

Does anyone have this working on Apple OSX 10.14?

So, if it's theoretically illegal to download and use a ROM from a synth you don't own, isn't this exactly the same as using an illegal copy of a plugin? I wonder how many here would justify this, but but not justify using an illegal copy of a plugin..

I don't know the legal situation exactly, but, I guess it's more like legal grey area.

It's the same with any kind of emulator really. If you take a look at a C64 emulator, for instance, where would you get the game archives, if not from shady sources.

Theoretically it should be illegal, you are actually copying the OS from a synth that is Intellectual property. Might be a grey area, but also might not be. Still people here would happily download ROMs from synths they don't own without hesitation. The same people who would never use illegal copies of plugins, the same people who despises people who do. High-level hypocrisy either way, grey area or not.

Yes, and this is illegal.

Then this is illegal too. :)

You're right, and, I get your points. It's just so sad to see that none of the companies which did those great hardware synths ever did a soft synth version of their synths (maybe except for Novation with the V-Station). But, that shouldn't justify anything, of course.
