Managed to update the 2 plugins to v14. But every v14 link on the web takes me to v13. I'm getting paranoid.

Sadly, after using Wave for 20 years I reached the point yesterday where I can't do it any more. In a search for multiband distortion they had a good option but I know what baggage comes with it. They make some great plugins and I'll miss them for now but I'm done with the installation nightmares. I know that is not every experience though, and I wish it wasn't mine. I wish I could be part of the journey but alas.....

All my Waves plugins in old project sessions are broken - even though people harp on about how futureproof and indestructable Waves plugins are - I call BS.
Now, when I get the "WaveShellV3.2432534534 could not be found" I just remix the damn song without Waves.
They cynically release new versions so frequently now, with minimal updates. Wow, those compressors from the early 2000's have a Mix knob now? And that's worth $250 USD WUP? We have to pay for GUI scaling because your plugins were made for Windows 95? Sign me up.

I think I've heard people complain about Waves for over a decade, yet they're still super popular (over half a million YouTube subscribers which is a lot for such a company) and clearly make a bunch of money. So not only do they get out a lot out of each customer, they clearly have many of them too. I'm not sure what the takeaway about their business model should be, people seem displeased, both on KVR and in YouTube comments, yet they keep coming
. I feel like maybe there's something to learn from that.

I've moaned for many of those years about the grief inflicted by Waves Central in particular. But in the past couple of years it's been good as gold.A_SN wrote: Sat Jul 16, 2022 12:09 am I think I've heard people complain about Waves for over a decade, yet they're still super popular (over half a million YouTube subscribers which is a lot for such a company) and clearly make a bunch of money. Although some still have issues clearly, I do think they've worked on this so that existing customers might not just wander off elsewhere.

Most of the complaints about Waves concerns their licensing system/plugin manager Waves Central. Like all such applications it's a dog's breakfast. Not many users complain about the plugins themselves - they work and rarely crash, whatever the opinion is of their sound quality. This applies to all devs that implement installation/download managers. Not a one is well-designed for the user, it seems all the focus is on security. If you only have one plugin from these devs there's often gigabytes of junk installed alongside - eg T-Racks. At the moment with Waves all the new v14 links take you v13. I had this problem recently. Click on the v14 link, it takes you to v13. Ok, install v13, see what happens. It tells you v14 is available, with nice big update button. Click it, you get sent to a What's New In V14 page, click the download v14 link, you land on the v13 page, ie square #1.A_SN wrote: Sat Jul 16, 2022 12:09 am I think I've heard people complain about Waves for over a decade, yet they're still super popular (over half a million YouTube subscribers which is a lot for such a company) and clearly make a bunch of money. It would be because this situation is the exception, not the example. If they were really that bad for most people, they'd no longer be in business.MogwaiBoy wrote: Fri Jul 15, 2022 11:20 pm All my Waves plugins in old project sessions are broken - even though people harp on about how futureproof and indestructable Waves plugins are - I call BS.

I'd suggest getting on to tech support, but I imagine you've most past that point and on to the "I'm leaving Waves because I hate everything about them" stage

Central's version is independent of their plugins. It just mean thieve yet to update it for native M1 support. It seems they prioritise plugin compatibility over their installer and I think that's the way it should be.Igro wrote: Sat Jul 16, 2022 9:28 pm Interesting, in my Waves Central all my plugins are v14 now but the the Wave Central is v13 and I cannot update it.
