Bonehead (BONES) was giving me a hard time for claiming that the Studio Electronics MIDImini V30 is maybe the best mono synth ever made. In the bellicose manner that he has perfected to an art form, he stated that the MIDImini is outrageously overpriced at $3,000. His point of reference is the IK Multimedia Uno Synth Pro.
The Uno certainly sounds nice given its low, low price. But it's no MIDImini V30.
What I find ridiculously overpriced is the $5,000 Minimoog Model D reissue. I would take the MIDImini over the Model D any day.

Why was I under the impression that Australians are good natured souls, particularly after a couple of Fosters?
All the Australians I've met fit that mold. I think Bonehead must be an outlier. LOL.

It's why they serve their beer so cold. Almost frozen so that you can't taste it. If you've ever tried something like VB at room temperature, you'll know you don’t ever want to taste Aussie beer properly. They call it piss for a reason

How about the Roland SE02? Yes you need tweezers to work the knobs but it does sound excellent and it is under digital control.

How does it sound compared to the other reissues? The original is fatter in sound then the earlier reissues, but some have some oscillating problems. Just wondering how these would compare.

The new Model-D reissue's oscillators are very stable.
I've left mine on for days... and it's still in tune.
It's expensive for what you get... but nothing sounds exactly like it.
I had an original model D from the 70s (needed service, took a while to stabilize).
The reissue sounds extremely close... and is a whole lot more reliable/stable.

therein lies the issue, if i don't spend it on synths, i just buy more drugs.
i literally have no choice either, on disability benefits, where if i save over a certain amount (5.5k) they stop my benefits. then when ive paid that month's rent, have to reapply and so on...
so its just easier to buy the synths and drugs, plug in and get high and play
blame the government!

Another, significantly cheaper option is the Studio Electronics SE-3X 3U rack unit.

It doesn't sound nearly as good as a Model D or even a Midimini V30. But it does have a display and patch storage for $2,300. So a little over half the price of the Model D reissue. For me, support for four vintage filter boards, a display and patch storage tip the scales in favor of the SE-3X.
