If this works thát good, sound designers have to stress that their patches of other synths cannot be used for Syntplant 2 patches as a blue print for public use. For sound designer there also is a new opportunity to copy their sound banks of other synths in Synplant 2 sound banksv1o wrote: Sun Mar 26, 2023 3:38 pmThe AI Resynthesis looks pretty cool. Pretty soon you wont need synth programming skills. You 'll just resynthesise any sound using an AI and then tweak it to your taste. So anyone can be Howard Scarr or Rob Papen and it democratizes the whole process.

If the basic architecture of the synth hasn't changed (2 osc with FM, filter, and fx), I won't be expecting miracles from the resynthesis, but it will be a cool addition nonetheless.
I'm sure that some sound sources will provide close copies, but I'm more interested in weirder unexpected results as starting points for new patches.
I don't think sound designers need to worry about Synplant 2 (S3 maybe, but there are already other synths that do more accurate resynthesis now...)

i have plenty of things that give expected results, i want something that's can surprise me on occasion.

If the vocal example in the demo video is anything to go by, I won't be disappointedvurt wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:41 pmneverbeeninariot wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:37 pm , but I'm more interested in weirder unexpected results as starting points for new patches.

So does synplant 2 have an additive engine for the resynthesis ?

Tested Harmor and found it's resynthesis disappointing. I am excited by the demo of Synplant 2, cannot wait to test it's resynthesis.neverbeeninariot wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 6:58 pmhttps://www.tone2.com/icarus-resynthesis.html (wavetable resynthesis)peterdh wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 6:54 pmWhich?neverbeeninariot wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:37 pm....but there are already other synths that do more accurate resynthesis now...)

Hard to say for sure from what's in the videos, but I don't think so. If I was to guess, I'd say that the AI/ML (or whatever it is) that's analysing the incoming audio, is mapping it as best as it can to the existing Synplant engine. Seems to be an iterative process, as the resynthesis part looks like it's generating a tree of possible solutions. All speculation, I could be completely wrong...gentleclockdivider wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 8:10 pm So does synplant 2 have an additive engine for the resynthesis ?
edit
Also, the vocal example is pretty crude (though very interesting output). Additive would generate better results than that.

Yep , that's exactly what I have been thinking .neverbeeninariot wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 9:03 pmHard to say for sure from what's in the videos, but I don't think so. Not to mention, Harmor is a far less user-friendly synth. Meaning, especially for beginners, or laypersons, Synplant 2 is likely going to be a far more quick and accessible experience for such resynthesis operations.peterdh wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 8:19 pmTested Harmor and found it's resynthesis disappointing. "It also features a vastly improved synth engine" Wonder what that means.

It means pretty much every parameter/function in v1 has been tweaked, enhanced, improved, revised, optimized, refined, and/or otherwise rewritten. Again, this is a major update.SeeingInMidi wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 11:42 pm "It also features a vastly improved synth engine" Wonder what that means.
