If you did the “French” and “German” filters, you’re the only reason I bought Serum. The rest of the filters in it are fine, but those have some real personality.andy-cytomic wrote: Mon Aug 21, 2023 9:12 amPlease send on through your requests to Steve if you'd like me involved with Serum 2, perhaps if enough of his customers ask he may consider it.

I find it odd that Steve didn't at least ask Andy if he was interested in doing some filters for Serum 2.
I suspect a lot of that work may have been now done by Dave from DMG Audio.
but yeah, Andy's filters in serum 2 would be awesome (where I really would love them even more is omnipshere 3).

I’d say a lot of the mega-synths like Omnisphere or Falcon could use some Cytomic filter love.zvenx wrote: Mon Aug 21, 2023 2:21 pm I find it odd that Steve didn't at least ask Andy if he was interested in doing some filters for Serum 2.

i just tried the demo. it sounds good, but not really better than any of my other synths. for me personally the problem is the GUI and the workflow. the whole gui seems laggy and there are too many windows, everything is cramped together, too much for my eyes and my workflow.

Yeah, I really was not a big fan of the Fxpansion, and eventually Roli, look for these. The original DCAM Synth Squad plugins had a nicer GUI (not great - still small by modern standards and cramped) but they really went downhill with the v2 versions and the wireframe style that Fxpansion was generally going for in later years. It wasn't a really aesthetically pleasing look but it also didn't make for the best user experience either with so much presented in such a flat way in such a small area.
But they sound good.
I realized yesterday that I never upgraded to Cypher 2, and my old Cypher v1 says the activation is corrupted and I can't get it to reauthorize on the old Fxpansion servers. So that's probably gone for good. C'est la vie.

You don’t have a synth that’s an analog emulation and as flexible. I get that not everyone wants a super flexible analog emulation, but if you do, Cypher 2 is really the best thing out there, and I’ve tried everything.Seelachsfilet wrote: Mon Aug 21, 2023 4:36 pm i just tried the demo. it sounds good, but not really better than any of my other synths. for me personally the problem is the GUI and the workflow. the whole gui seems laggy and there are too many windows, everything is cramped together, too much for my eyes and my workflow.

Although wavetable, but weirdly, Massive X is the closest substitute in terms of sounding analogue and having this sort of flexibility.

in your opinion, what would be the next best thing in terms of "super flexible analog emulation" after cypher? just curious. i guess reaktor or softube modular, but the comparison wouldnt be fair obviouslyzerocrossing wrote: Tue Aug 22, 2023 2:23 amYou don’t have a synth that’s an analog emulation and as flexible. Like mentioned, you can build things in VCV Rack or Softube modular that exceed the “analog” vibe of Cypher. However, they can be really CPU hungry and a lot harder to put together. You can coax a bit of an analog vibe out of MSoundFactory by carefully placing drive stages in various places, but when it comes down to it, it really doesn’t have an analog modeled filter. Diva is good, but 2 LFOs and EGs are limiting. I’ve yet to mess with the CLAP version… maybe that’s an answer. To be honest, I have not really explored what CLAP can do inside Bitwig.Seelachsfilet wrote: Tue Aug 22, 2023 7:49 amin your opinion, what would be the next best thing in terms of "super flexible analog emulation" after cypher? just curious. i guess reaktor or softube modular, but the comparison wouldnt be fair obviouslyzerocrossing wrote: Tue Aug 22, 2023 2:23 amYou don’t have a synth that’s an analog emulation and as flexible. Basically, there are a lot of great analog emulations out now, but most are pretty limited, even with the additional features they added, as were the synths they copied. That’s why things like the REV2 or PolyBrute are great, because they are analog and exceed plugins. It’s funny, a lot of people have been saying the Prophet 08 “sounds like a plugin” since it was released, and I always ask, “which plugin?” I’ve never received an answer. I’m not saying that Cypher 2 sounds like one, but it at least it’s goes beyond the single filter, two LFO, EG design. I may be missing something, but I don’t think there’s anything remotely close to it.

Spire also has audio rate sources in the modulation matrix.

It doesn't have audio rate modulation though (in the digital sense).Korg Supporter wrote: Thu Oct 26, 2023 2:04 pmSpire also has audio rate sources in the modulation matrix.
From what I understand, it's not enough to have audio rate sources, the internal modulation has to work sample by sample as well. Otherwise, you have the typical "chaotic", and artefact afflicted sounds at high modulation rates.
If you have Dune 3, you can easily test that. Just set the modulation rate in the settings to another setting than audio rate. And then FM the filter with some resonance, and check the sound with higher modulation rates.

What I meant was that you can use oscillators as mod sources.chk071 wrote: Thu Oct 26, 2023 2:12 pmIt doesn't have audio rate modulation though (in the digital sense).Korg Supporter wrote: Thu Oct 26, 2023 2:04 pmSpire also has audio rate sources in the modulation matrix.
