DJErmac wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 3:26 pm I've just asked it to recreate Faithless pizzicato with any VST synth and give me a preset. It proposed me to go with Serum. I agreed. It then generated a tutorial after saying the sound is cult. I asked for a preset instead. It refused.
So I followed the tutorial. It sounded nothing like the original sound. I can't even hear any connection.
Weirdly it told me this
Absolutely — the pizzicato sound used by Faithless, especially in tracks like "Insomnia", is an iconic, sharp, plucky synth string — kind of like a digital pizzicato with attitude. Here's how to recreate that sound in a general-purpose synth like Serum, Vital, Arturia Jup-8 V, Synclavier V, or any subtractive synth.
So far ChatGPT is beating you 2-0 when it comes to accurate information

I'm using free version as far as I'm concerned...

But there's strictly no difference with what IvyBirds described.

Concerning the pizz, it proposed me a Serum patch, as I described before. I followed its tutorial, as I said before. And it was sh!t, as I said before.

And regarding the doggy-cat, it refused to make a sound file, as I wrote, when IvyBirds is talking about a Serum Patch.

Nothing weird excepted IvyBirds read too fast.

Nope I am not talking about a serum patch, you will notice it asked me if I wanted an audio demo of what a dog mimicing a cat would sound like what do you think that is and would be?

There actually is a difference between the paid and free versions however

https://openai.com/chatgpt/pricing/

With the free version you get Access to GPT‑4o mini and limited access to GPT‑4o and o3‑mini

Notice the "Mini" part

With the + version you get enhanced access to the full GPT-4o not the Mini version and is more powerful than what you get in the free version

You also get access to deep research and multiple reasoning models outside of GPT-4o as well as o3‑mini, o3‑mini‑high, and o1

In addition you get access to the GPT-4.5 preview aka Beta version

There's no way it may answer the exact same thing using different languages anyway, but the audio file is a thing indeed. I think it's talking about its Serum patch preview.

The world needs to know anyway. What does a dog mimicking a cat sounds like ?

Mandatory precision (as it's indeed a hard job for him) : he's producing one meow only.

It's not using Serum to make audio files however it's using something else

No matter what it's using however because it's by definition a synthetic sound it's using synthesis, so since you don't have the same synthesis tools it has, if you want to make a similar sound yourself it's presenting you various options using the tools you do have. In my example it offered multiple synthesis types and options

I also asked it the same question in French and got the same answer as the underlying question no matter the language it's asked in, would be the same

So o matter if you ask it "what does a dog mimicing a cat sound like" or "À quoi ressemble le son d’un chien imitant un chat ?" Or "Πώς ακούγεται ένας σκύλος που μιμείται μια γάτα;" Or 고양이를 흉내 내는 개는 어떤 소리를 낼까요?

You are still just asking what a Dog mimicing a Cat would sounds like

The question is not complex enough where anything would get lost in translation

If you asked 100 people the same question and asked them to reproduce it using their mouth you would get 100 different sounds as a result, even if you asked someone in New York, Montreal, Paris, Athens, or Seoul

("wouf" / or "woof" in english, is a common alternative in french, so I got the joke)

And I don't get why more people aren't using those tools to go beyond what we know. What's the point of succeeding in making things that have already been made ?

That dog will go meow.

Well it's because I absolutely didn't ask for this. I asked for the sound file. I asked ChatGPT to produce a sound file of a dog mimicking a cat. He proposed to make a video instead. I said yes, but with sound. He said no.

I'm beginning to get tired of that dog that never obeys...

Sure that's why you posted
DJErmac wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 4:54 pm This thing is sooooo disappointing... I asked it to generate the sound of a dog mimicking a cat, and it said there's no way it can do this... :?
Weirdly no mention of any sound file in your original rant

However if you had actually asked it for a sound file this would have been the response as seen in this screen grab

Peut-être qu’il a compris que tu racontes n’importe quoi et qu’il ne t’aime tout simplement pas ?

In any case it has no difficulty creating audio files

So we will all just chalk it up to user error on your part

ChatGPT clearly answers it can generate no sound...

Maybe you’re right, he simply doesn’t like me. :scared:

I don’t like myself a lot either, so I can’t really blame him.

Hey, can you share that sound clip pls ?

When I try that, the link it gives me always says "not found". I retry and it times out, try again and "whops it hit a snag". I think paid version seems much better :p
