At weddings?

Whoa, I can't figure that out either. *puzzled*

SecondSkin wrote:"We Built This City" and "The Warrior" definitely bottom out the charts for me, but how about a worst song by bands that didn't otherwise suck:

I nominate "Friday I'm In Love" by The Cure

I don't care if Monday's black
Tuesday Wednesday heart attack
Thursday never looking back
It's Friday I'm in love

Monday you can hold your head
Tuesday Wednesday stay in bed
Or Thursday watch the walls instead
It's Friday i'm in love
great lyrics :-D

(I'm serious  )

Let's see... Bernie Taupin was Elton's lyricist. (But I don't know whether he wrote this song.) A name I've noticed repeatedly in connection with the Csound musical software, and as author of the MusicTeX typesetting package, is Daniel Taupin.

Hm. *shrug* I dunno.

I remember Elton explaining in an interview, that this song originally was longer, but had to be cut down (possibly to fit on the album, or more likely, within radio airplay restraints.) He said there is a missing verse that would explain all the other cryptic lyrics of that song. As far as I know he's never released the full, original version of the song (with the missing verse restored.)

I just don't like listening to long tedious songs, which have a missing verse that would have at least made sense of the whole ordeal. :D

take care,
McLilith
This is how sad I am:

Apparently, Daniel was Elton's 'personal assistant' who was travelling home on a plane to Australia (I think) to visit his parents but he died in a crash. So Elton wrote this song in memory of him.

Any other pop facts need answering, just ask... :hihi:

That James Bond song Guns n Roses did is utter shite. If ever I hear it I feel like a cat turned inside out. :-o

Post

Ah. Thanks. I'd wondered whether there was any connection between the two Taupins -- and still do -- but apparently there's not a connection with the song.

... Which (on internal evidence) didn't seem to be the case, but cryptic is as cryptic does. *knock on plastic* :-)

Elton John
Daniel

Daniel is travelling tonight on a plane
I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain
Oh and I can see Daniel waving goodbye
God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes

They say Spain is pretty though I've never been
Well Daniel says it's the best place that he's ever seen
Oh and he should know, he's been there enough
Lord I miss Daniel, oh I miss him so much

Daniel my brother you are older than me
Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won't heal
Your eyes have died but you see more than I
Daniel you're a star in the face of the sky

Daniel is travelling tonight on a plane
I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain
Oh and I can see Daniel waving goodbye
God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes
Oh God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes
Which verse is missing in the song?

(Doesn't seem too cryptic to me. :? )

Here's a few haunting memories from my childhood:

"Afternoon Delight" - The Starland Vocal Band
"All by Myself" - Eric Carmen
"At Seventeen" - Janis Ian
"I Can Help" - Billy Swann
"I Love the Nightlife" - Alicia Bridges
"Spill The Wine" - War
"Mickey" - Toni Basil

Can we just send them all to the Fletcher Memorial Home? I hear the residents there are deserving of such entertainment.

"Now, the final solution can be applied..."

:D

P.S. You have to be a Roger Waters fan to understand that last bit.

I was in a pub a few nights ago and someone put "The Final Countdown" on. For some reason as soon as I heard it I had an urge to behave like Begbie from Trainspotting.

Why, the one that isn't there, silly!

How should I know what lyrics are in the never-published missing verse?

I thought it was awful before, but ever since I saw the video for it on VH1 classic, I've had nightmares... Dear...God...Make it stop!!!

Oh, for crying out loud -- the ship's dog named Paul -- it all makes sense now! IT ALL MAKES SENSE!!!

(an aura of golden and blue cold flames bursts into existence around Meffy)

Oh, and I like "Spill the Wine".

(the aura winks out... you'd be surprised how quickly one of those puppies will drain a half-dozen alkaline "D" cells.
