hhtp GREAT stuff
the mix is just a fraction off the marc, there are lots of upper frequencies maybe because of the preview quality compression?
The music itself is freaking wonderful, cutting edge scapes with soul... jazzy vibes on glitch- I totally appreciate you sharing this with us!
Will this be an album and how can I get it?
shit I really love those grooves.

Thanks for the replay.
the album "your own copy" is finished, but has been recorded just like a demo version and has really bad quality of sound at this moment. i must spend some time for remastering before an official release on a CD.
the second mix was made from live performance. these tracks i created one month ago and still play them just live. so i need some time to make a CD release also.
sorry : )
i will notify you when it will be done.
two tracks from the YOC album:

Here is a track I have been working on for a couple of weeks. I have used energyXT only and loads of free VSTs.

Little song I have up in the music cafe at the mo. All made/recorded in eXT.
Its one of the pieces for my Music Tech A level course. My 1.5ghz laptop just about managed to run it.

Hey, WoJ, nice catchy tune. Listening on my headphones I found the reverb made it a bit too spacy (like the music came from a theatre stage "out there"), but it's got character, esp. the drums are unique. The e-guitar solo is very nice. What sample/vst did you use?
@le_NEKO: I like the sounds, but I can't really get into the rhythm. I am guessing you were trying to swing or so, but it feels really "stuttery". How did you quantize (if you did at all)? Have you tried using MIDI Fx (groove)? The beat in the second part is much smoother. Too bad you're just fading out, would have been nice to pick it up and build it.
Anyone care to give me feedback on my piece? I know it's not perfect and would love to have some ideas on how to improve it.

Cheers for the feedback. Do you mean what vst i used for the guitar? FreeAmpSE - the latest version
. Yea a couple of people have said theres too much reverb, i'll reduce it a bit and see what I can do.
Listenin to your piece now. Very funky/jazzy, the little intro bit with the filtered arp thing is great - reminds me of what I do with my little roland synth box and guitar amp - so much fun putting on a spacy rhodes and messing with the wah-pedal. Thought that the bongos/perc could have come in a bit earlier, or just hint at them slighty in the first section, they suit realy well, and its a shame to only hear them towards the end. Nice
Is it all sequenced or loops in live mode?

Hey, WOJ,
Super drum part and sounds - what are you using for the drums and the main synth drone part?
And the distortion from the guitar is all from FreeAmpSE? It's got a great middle tone eq to it.
Good job overall.
The reverb isn't too bad on the vocals because the song itself lends itself to being more "spacey" - so it works if you think about it like that...maybe you can always filter/modulate/chorus the harmony vocal line to make that mode more obvious.
I am trying to evaluate eXT for a low-cost host and I do a mix of both samples and live (guitar, etc) so it's nice to see the piece.
What are you using for the reverb, anyway?
Thanks, again, and have a good day,
- Paul

that's a great track woj, i'd like to hear the words a little clearer but agree with PaulG, the spacey feel is important - a difficult balance to achieve though.
anway, ive never noticed this thread before! some fantastic tracks and diversity
i don't post much in the eXT forum, but i've been using eXT almost exclusively for about 2 years. so i thought i might share something here - these are a few of the more intensive tracks which i hope demonstrate just how well eXT handles extensive audio multitracking.
these tracks were *mastered* in eXT too.
they are mostly in a kind of existential pop vein with moments of gothic light opera.
Lodger towards the end this has about 12 guitar tracks layered up with a number of vocal tracks too. besides that there's a rather large number of synths, drums, FX and so on involved - by the end most of them had been rendered - the cpu was near panic.
L'Ange Diabolique - as above too many guitars, a multitude of synths - another cpu buster.
The Sun - less of everything and no guitars and probaby the better for it, but eXT vst was used within standalone to create the pads, so things got a little deeper.
i love eXT
regards

Cheers guys.
I did EQ the guitar sound after FreeAmpSE, but im sure i could have go the same sound with FreeAmp alone - and the great thing is the guitar was recorded straight into my laptop onboard soundcard line in, and the vocals were recorded through a tiny on-board mic.
Reverb is Ambience.
@Knockman: Yea the vocal clarity was a bit of a problem, not the recording of them, just the way I 'sing', I was listenin/mixing through headphones as I recorded it all so I was going for that immersive space.
I'll save your tracks to disc for later listenin sometime.
eXT is well worth the money imo, so much you can do with it - for live or sequencing work its great. Roll on eXT2.
Cheers,
WoJ
The main strings are just a standard string soundfont. The 'feedback' kind of sound in the instrumental section is synth1. The pad swoops are wusikstation version 1 (brilliant pads, and i got wusik1 for around £10), and the stringy 'stabs' during the vocal section is the string soundfont going through mda RePsycho and mda Leslie. The drums are just a soundfont 'JV1080 Roland Drums' or something, but I boosted the treb/mid a lot - again the drums are going through mda RePsycho.what are you using for the drums and the main synth drone part?

Thanks for the feedback, WoJ. I think I also like the 2nd percussion section better - although it was the first that inspired the song, lol. Actually the beginning of the song is a preset from synth1 vst - no tweaking whatsoever. I continue to be amazed at what sounds can be created by synthesis. Oh, and it's all sequenced (with quite a few copied bars, though)
As for the guitar - so you actually played a real guitar, I thought it was a soundfont or so.
@knockman:
You do well at creating an atmosphere with the pads in "The sun". The vocals mix very well with the instruments. I think this is my favorite of the three.
On "The Lodger" I find the strings sound a bit too thin sometimes (or too distant, just not "present" enough). The layered guitars at the end are very nice. The drums could be a bit crisper IMO.
"L'Ange Diabolique": the string soundfonts at the beginning don't do it for me. The rest of the song mixes well and leaves a coherent impression on me. Which string sounds did you use? I found the ones from the Fluid soundfont quite good, but haven't used them extensively. Who knows, maybe you even used those. I can definitely recommend the oboe from that soundfont if you are looking for some "natural" instruments for melodic parts.

@jakob ,
thanks for the reply
quantizing ! no way, not with funk music please , it is enough binary and looped as it is
i am an integrist with the beat, tony allen is the master, thanks anyway for the listening feedback
About your song , i dig a lot the compo, but it maybe need some selection work about drumkits. Right now drums sound a little like standard General Midi drums, i think some vinyl ripped drumskit (or whatever not strictly out of the box) could give it more personnality. Eq and custom compression could help also to make it pump.
In the general mix, in my sense kick and snare have to touch near the full power (my rule, but not the rule).
it is maybe a little to clean for now, too clean music give me some evocation of porno soundtrack which is cool in a sense but not too much when it is not the intention at all (not an offense, just the way i feel generally with too clean mixing).
The compo work is really nice, overall the track is good, more interpretation and some dirt, would make it a BOMB.
hope it could helps, just my point of view certainly not the only way to go.
have fun

Well, it has been 1 year and 2 months since i have bought my Energy XT license and hitherto, i have mainly used it for making loops to mangle within Live and of course to create live templates etc.
I finally made my first IDM tune using nothing but Ext.
2 minutes 8 seconds of Pure Fashion
