Could someone please explain anti-loop snobbery?

Hink: I think you misunderstood me. I was saying that Pink Floyd's DSotM was one of the most creative albums I can think of. Even though it had arpegiators (Or maybe sequencers, I'm not sure) it was still a very creative and artistic album. My point was that some forms of looping are perfectly fine and normal, and the majority of sane music listeners agree.
Soulata: Thanks for setting the record straight while I was away. I didn't mean to offend you with the session player remark. I won't deny that it's good work if you can get it. Still, I view writing music as a very personal thing, and to attribute someone else's music to yourself just seems... I dunno... just kind of weird.

Don't worry about it. Xoxos gives you contempt if you're below the age of recieving a free bus pass.herodotus wrote:But in electronica, you are supposed to write everything, lest you suffer the contempt of your peers.

I beg to differ. One of these musicians actually laboured over his creation. They may sound the same, but Billy's piece will still be lacking the touch of an artist.
the loops were still created by an artist and that artist leave their indelible imprint on those loops, their sound and thus the overall sound of the track in which they are used. the loop artists labor over their creations. so all that pretentious balderdash about integrity and "hearing the sweat"* is moot because someone at some point put a ton of work into creating the loops that said fictitious person used.
if you took two random people off the street and played them the two pieces from your analogy, they wouldn't give two rat shits about the method in which they were created. if you don't believe me, tune in to Top 40 radio someday. its not called "popular music" for nothing.

I thought the point was that loops lack creativity.

First it took a couple of electric guitars and a drummer and that was the end of the big band era.
Now it is one VSTi and no more Gigabits of stored loops.
The Loop is dead.
