Right I am going to re-Rar the file, with a fresh install of WinRar (latest version) then upload that.

it will take a few hours but will bump this thread when done.

Also I will do a winzip file too - but I think it could be a file name issue (I wonder if changing the name of the archive to a shorter one will work)

Let you know when sorted.

Best regards,

Peter

Not 100% sure but I'd think it should be working under OS9 as well.
ok, I checked but that only works in OSX :?

..but as it looks the problem lays somewhere else?
..we´ll see.. :)

The problem is with version 3.42 of WinRar.

the archive you downloaded was rared in 3.30 now I know 3.30 unrars the file ok, but I have now installed 3.42 and it even gives me a crc error (even making a new rar gives me this error with 3.42)

So if you have the file (go back a version or two with winRar - its got a bug)

I can upload this in zip and a bit later .sit

Peter

We chose Rar because it saved on server space and bandwidth space. It does a better compression than Zip. Is the old version of Winrar available to download? I know that I tried un-rarring the file from my computer and it was fine. Now I know what Spe3d re-rarred it with the license file. I wonder if he just had the newer, buggy version. Or maybe I did something wrong?

I hope we get this fixed. Can ANYONE confirm that this worked?

Just to see what would happen, I tried to open it with Stuffit Expander 8.0.2 on a Mac running OS X. Got this error:

Error# 17540 (format error)

Does that mean I won't be able to decompress this file on a PC when I get home?

I guess we need to wait till Spe3d re-rars it again in the old format. As I said, and he said, we both got it to work using the old version. But it will be a while. It takes several minutes to Rar it, then almost 4 hours to upload it on a DSL connection. At least that's how long it took me. And I believe Spe3d has about the same upload connection.

So, is the big file gonna be available in a soundfont, for those who dont have a Giga player/convertor?

Koolkeys - can you upload the file again to ftp account with the readme inside? this will take my rar out of the equation.

I did a zip - but that has given me a 630MB file, gulp!
