But I don't think it will happen any time soon.

BTW Bones, you don't think there will be a Orion 6?
But the guy was asking for help choosing between ORION Pro and the basic $149 version of Fruity. What's the poin tof telling him how good the XXL bundles is? And yes, of course there will be a Version 6, I just don't think it will cost anything for the update, but I could be wrong.
Jaeson Merril wrote:and there are free vstis out there (you should know) that probably sound just as good as either hosts' included for free synths.
Ha! Find me a free sampler better than ORION's. Find me a free wavetable synth better than ORION's. Find me a better sounding V/A than WaspXT at any price. Find me a better free wave-sequencing synth than UltranWMS.

If that could be applied to all parameter automation tracks I'd look the other way on alot of things..

They ain't free if he's gotta pay $149 for them either, is it?

:P

$298 if you want Ultran and Wavefusion.

Sounds better than just about ANY sampler in existence. Editing with sfZed may not be to some people's liking but I actually prefer it to the f**ked-up keymapping interface of Kontakt, which I find absolutely impossible to work with.

May not have a better interface or better features but I think it probably sounds very comparable.

Imageantti ASynth

One of the best sounding V/A synths... free or commercial. IMO, it sounds as much like a "real" analog synth as any of the emulations by Arturia or GMEDIA. It's a little slim on features but since I use Ableton Live, it's Automation Clips all but make up for the modulation inadaquacies of any given synth. In fact I've come to prefer simpler synths as sound sources and Live's Automation Clips as modulators.

Again, perhaps not better... certainly comparable.

Ha!

Oh. D'uh.

I remember running across a free VST with a Mini interface, bet can't remember which one. I thought that was it.

LOL... I actually found a jpeg of a real mini that I cropped and used for a while but I got anal and made a screencapture of the Arturia because it was straighter and looked clearer when reduced.

Nope, it was a direct copy. Everything but the sound, as I recall.

Its a soundfont player, that's all. Sampler loads SF2, Akai, Kurzweil and wav's. And you can build your own multi-layered instruments with it. It also has a great synth section to play it all through, with sidechaining of the filter's cutoff frequency. It also has the most accurate rendering ever. The're chalk and cheese.

So it sounds as good [maybe] but has fewer features. Therefore, it would be reasonable to assume that its not better.
Tried this a while ago and it does nothing for me at all. Who cares if it sounds analogue, I just want instruments that sound good. Its also down an LFO [and 5 destinations], two envelopes, several filter modes and a distortion effect when compared to WaspXT.
Green Oak Crystal Again, perhaps not better... certainly comparable.
Maybe, if you don't care about how your filters sound.

So maybe you score half a point out of four, but only because I am feeling generous.

dont forget it also can chop samples (such as drum loops) and map them to a key on the piano roll..

only thing I wish it had was time stretching.. even a basic model..

FL chops things up.. for free.

and tons of other stuff in its sampler.

overall, i dont think one offers MORE than the other (tho i would be inclined to think FL does, since i dont see many representing orion here, or well, no fanboys except me and BONES anyway..) but hopefully this gives him some info to go off of.
