Why do people feel the need to write standard music?

Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
And now it's party time
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
"They're here already! You're next! You're next!"
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
And now it's party time
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey hey baby (hu ha)
"They're here already! You're next! You're next!"

I've been writing songs for over 25 years, and I have to say that I am more than a bit jaded.
On a related rant - err, note - one of the many reasons why I consider music music in 2005 to be embalmed is that music is EVERYWHERE now. Music videos sell female hygiene products, cars, TV shows, and stock brokers. You simply cannot escape it, and music suffers for it.
When I was growing up, music was still a bit of a mystery. It was NOT everywhere. If, for example, a new Led Zeppelin song came out there were only 2 ways to hear it: the radio or on a turntable (yours or a friend). Fact is, it DID make the music seem more mysterious, illicit, and magical, and - yes - you did have ot work hard to learn a craft to write because you had to study the records.
IMHO, the last genuinely original band was the Residents - and that was nearly 30 years ago. By my compass, they carved out the last niche. So yes, I am tired of hearing the same 10 songs written over and over....and over. This is true for just about any genre I can think of. Welcome to the Machine, indeed.
That said, as long as people enjoy it who am I to say its "wrong"? Live and let live. So what if the art form is moribund?

You'd think that people would have had enought of silly love songs.
But I look around me and I see it isn't so.
Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs.
And what's wrong with that?
I'd like to know, 'cause here I go again
I love you, I love you,
I love you, I love you,
I can't explain the feeling's plain to me, say can't you see?
Ah, she gave me more, she gave it all to me
Now can't you see,
What's wrong with that
I need to know, 'cause here I go again
I love you, I love you
Love doesn't come in a minute,
sometimes it doesn't come at all
I only know that when I'm in it
It isn't silly, no, it isn't silly, love isn't silly at all.
How can I tell you about my loved one?
How can I tell you about my loved one?
How can I tell you about my loved one?
(I love you)
How can I tell you about my loved one?
(I love you)

You need to search a little more thoroughly... there's all kinds of off-the-map stuff hiding in all sorts of out-of-the-way corners of the world.MickGael wrote: IMHO, the last genuinely original band was the Residents - and that was nearly 30 years ago.
