my absolute favorite preset is "voyager" from the factory preset... holy crap you can create so many amazing sounds with that preset alone... i need to learn how to control this beast, im sure its easy, but the controls seem a bit esoteric -- need to spend more time with it.

Wait, is this the L version, or the full version already? Because if it's the full version, I can donate whatever I want for it?

Oh wait... the GUI still says L. Hm... guess we have to wait a little longer. Though the GUI sure has changed... can the additional buttons be turned off or do they stay on screen now?

Just curious there.

So when is SQ8X being released?

Post

The last time I exchanged email with Sigi he told me about how much work he's putting into the retail version. He's added so much that its a major effort just to finish. Plus, this is not his main gig. He has a real life (unlike some of us).

I think most of you agree that the free version is an "over-achiever", in that most of us could only think of 3 or 4 things we would ask for to make it one of the best VSTs ever. I think he "gave away the store" by making the free one so comprehensive, but I'm not complaining. Have any of you looked at all the things the current LFOs can do? Its crazy!

I think the best way anyone can encourage him to release the SQ8X is by donating to his Paypal tip jar. I know if it were me, just a few dozen people from all over the world voted with their wallets, I would redirect my free time to the effort that paid the most.

Unfortunately, his Paypal page is all in German for the time being. I sent him a note and told him that many of us would get behind him with a few dollars if we were comfortable donating to the tip jar, so he may have an English language page coming up.

But I don't want to be all talk. I'm going to go Paypal him twenty bucks either way. I can't afford it any better than you guys, but I have used the thunder out of this thing. And I've gotten more use out of it than things like Symphonic Choir or ProTools that cost hundreds.

If I can afford to blow money like that, a few bucks for my favorite plugin is well worth it.

At least we see it's not dead yet. Thanks for the coverage.

Just uploaded a new bank to the KVR Database:

C S BANK-03

http://www.kvraudio.com/banks.php?s=lis ... order=date

It's a bit good, a bit bad, and a bit ugly.

I think Tim would have approved.

At least I hope so.

cheers.

It stands up to the original better than most emulations do. I have owned an original metal ESQ1, ESQM, and for a bit SQ80... All of my patches loaded up on this synth. I am still not happy with the filter section. It digitally squeals a bit and not in a good way but some adjustments to the sounds yielded amazing results. I have compared patches with my real one.. And the plugin is clearly done out of love.

As for the GUI, I am totally being selfish here... I want it to stay the same. I know this one like the back of my hand. I knew what to do from day one. So I personally hope he does not change it.

My suggestion though, is that he still allow pages to be switched via CC, and that the soft buttons and knobs have a learn mode. This way you only need 20 knobs to program this beast... Just like the original...
I am not a robot. You are a robot.

I have made a couple of small amendments to a few patches
where there were trailing clicks on the envelopes.

I did test them, but not loud and long enough!

Does anyone know how to delete the bank and upload a new one?
Well, just how to delete the 'old' bank really.
You understand.
I wasn't able to work this out.

Sorry for being a thicky!
My internet time is severely limited at the moment.

cheers.

Just finished a bank for this synth:

http://synthgeek.skincontact.com/files/sg-sq8lbank1.zip

Some notes: the first 80 patches were imported from my ESQ-1 banks, which originally had patches that used the ESQ's "hidden waves". These patches have been modified to use different waves (for obvious reasons). The patches in question are the ones starting with "SFXH".

I had a major issue with Cubase 5.x and SQ8L in Vista64: when I load a second istance Cubase crashes almost instantly. That doesn't happen with Nuendo/Cubase 4.x and othe hosts (Bidule, Kore2, etc.).
I've signaled it to the programmer and he stated he'll have a look to that.

I hope that the much anticipated full version (SQ8X) will be shipping someday...

There is no Mac native version. But it will run in Wacvst on Leopard, but you can only use one instance at a time. Not sure about Snow Leopard as I haven't tried updating Wacvst (the upgrade breaks the old version of Wacvst).
