About pane still says 1.00, that's true, but I'm almost certain that 808 used to have the dreaded circular knobs, but now they work linear - click and drag up/down.SLiC wrote:The 808 was updated a few days ago, I think it said 1.01 whilst updating but I couldn't find any notes on the update and the REV status of the plug didn't seem to be updated after the update....raymondwave wrote:Love the 909. It's worth noting that both 909 and updated 808 now have linear knobs. I don't think the 808 had this before, but I may be wrong. Anyway, hopefully coming to other synths as well.

Yes, it was definitely updated automatically by the cloud, but no release notes. I also thought it looked a bit sharper and had been tweaked to work with the hardware TR8S (which has also just been updated) but may be wrong!raymondwave wrote:About pane still says 1.00, that's true, but I'm almost certain that 808 used to have the dreaded circular knobs, but now they work linear - click and drag up/down.SLiC wrote:The 808 was updated a few days ago, I think it said 1.01 whilst updating but I couldn't find any notes on the update and the REV status of the plug didn't seem to be updated after the update....raymondwave wrote:Love the 909. I'm not 100 % sure how the gui zoom was before for 808, but now it seems to be a proper zoom with sharp graphics rather than just doubling pixels. This for 808 and 909 at the moment.SLiC wrote:Yes, it was definitely updated automatically by the cloud, but no release notes. If they keep improving all the older plugout they may get my money. Problem is I don't want to pay forever and right now I want like 8 products from them. (S8, JP8, Juno, Promars, Sh02, sh101, 808, sys100).raymondwave wrote:I'm not 100 % sure how the gui zoom was before for 808, but now it seems to be a proper zoom with sharp graphics rather than just doubling pixels. The bastards are building a nice ecosystem with their hw and that makes it very tempting.

Yup, the 'bastards' got me with the 808 as I was tempted by the hardware and figured this would have me moneyrod_zero wrote:If they keep improving all the older plugout they may get my money. Probably, it will be the JD-800 (including the JD-990), since they already announced itSLiC wrote: Yup, the 'bastards' got me with the 808 as I was tempted by the hardware and figured this would have me moneyI was an utter sceptic previously, now I have paid for the year- bring on the new stuff!! I don't remember exactly, but I think they wrote that on their Facebook months ago, answering customer requests.SLiC wrote:Where did you see that?fmr wrote:Probably, it will be the JD-800 (including the JD-990), since they already announced itSLiC wrote: Yup, the 'bastards' got me with the 808 as I was tempted by the hardware and figured this would have me moneyI was an utter sceptic previously, now I have paid for the year- bring on the new stuff!! OTOH; they also said they would redo the older GUIs, and so far, we got nothing

They also said via their website that my requests (JD, V-Synth, MKS-70) would also be put on the list. They definitely seem very open to considerations.fmr wrote:I don't remember exactly, but I think they wrote that on their Facebook months ago, answering customer requests.SLiC wrote:Where did you see that?fmr wrote:Probably, it will be the JD-800 (including the JD-990), since they already announced itSLiC wrote: Yup, the 'bastards' got me with the 808 as I was tempted by the hardware and figured this would have me moneyI was an utter sceptic previously, now I have paid for the year- bring on the new stuff!! i'm assuming at least one person in this long thread has already snapped off a grogan into the punchbowl, but this cloud shit is just so far away from me I'll never support a cloud based system. Why can't they just release the fecking plugins to buy?! As far as i can see, there's no option for the 808 or 909..?
Obviously people are salivating like the dogs they are, but i can't help wishing more people would vote with their dollar and put a stop to this cloud nonsense.
I realise it works for some people, so you don't need to argue with me, I'm simply stating my disdain.
I don't want to install a billion more plugins, I have hardware, and i'm happy with my current soft-synths.
but more to the point, I want to own my stuff and i'd buy a few Roland classic plugins here and there if they were available. Imagine the musician of the future, opening a project and realising there's 3 or 4 clouds they need to renew before they can work on it. Flip that for a laugh.
hang on, here, i'll just ladle out this nugget aaaaaand there we are... just like new

I have a question about the Roland Cloud subscription. How is it "cloud" related? Do you have to be online to access the plugins when you are using them or do they reside on your hard drive like any other plugin?
Also, when you earn your plugin to keep after a year, is that still somehow "cloud" related or do you just get a lifetime license to always use the plugin?
In short, are they just using cloud as a buzzword or does this actually work differently than other subscriptions (for example the slate everything bundle).
Also, do these plugins auto-update themselves or do you have control over that? (Particularly interested about that for when you actually own the plugin after a year).
Thanks for any replies.

Plugs install on your hard drive and can be used without internet connection. Plugs and sounds are not in the cloud, everything installs locally.
Plug in manager pings internet periodicaly for updates and licence, I think you can go week without internet connection so you can play live etc.
I am not sure how the free instrument works, not sure if anyone has received one yet!

I’m also curious about how the free instrument license works. I would hope that the instrument that you own would not have to ping the internet regularly to see if you’re still allowed to use it. But I wouldn’t put anything past Roland.
