Morning PolyBox
PolyBox is a built-in MIDI effect that distributes incoming MIDI data to multiple INST layers on consecutive MIDI channels. The original PolyBox, added in Unify v1.0.12, could only put each note on a separate layer, i.e., each INST layer was treated as monophonic. This enables three basic effects:
Create a virtual poly-synth from multiple monophonic synth instances
Add multi-core support to ANY synth plug-in (separate instances run on separate cores)
Add interest to polyphonic chords and note sequences by making the various layers slightly (or hugely) different

But what would be the point of that? What possible use could it be? If you wanted to do it, Obsession will handle it easily enough, although it's a slightly different synth (obviously). Just because you can do something doesn't make it worth doing.chk071 wrote: Sat Feb 27, 2021 6:38 pmIt's not the same though. The 8-voice lets you play all modules polyphonically, meaning one module per voice.

Yes. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist in the real world though, and that it isn't worth emulating. See the Gforce OB-E emulation.
This was more about whether it is possible or not to do it with plugins which weren't meant to be operated that way. And for the pure interestet if you can replicate that kind of architecture. As I mentioned, I'm not that interested that I would spend hours on it, or even buy Unify for it. It was just out of interest, what is possible and stuff. It's very tedious to program anyway, when you have to adjust every single instance the whole time.

You can play the bx_ one module per voice if you want (using the tools/DAWS suggested) but in this case I agree, I personally can't see the point (unless someone has a sound example to post of why it sounds different?). Its another example of copying 'limitations' on old hardware, warts and all....we can do better in 2021!

How? I don't see a way... the emphasis is on "per voice". How do you want to do that, if you can't even allocate voices in the DAW?SLiC wrote: Sun Feb 28, 2021 11:36 am You can play the bx_ one module per voice if you want (using the tools/DAWS suggested)

I thought you were just trying to send each note of a chord to a different SEM Module? You can certainly do this in Bitwig?
''.....and while that sounds like fun you do have to program each voice independently – they call it “Octophonic”.
Doesn't sound like fun to me or anything I would want to reproduce in a new synth, just sounds like a hardware limitation of the time that we don't need now.

No. Each of 8 or a different amount of voices should trigger a single instance of Oberhausen. Like on the original 8-voice.
Playing unison with ALL the instances is possible, I know that. Having an architecture like the 8-voice isn't though.

I would be really surprised if it could be done with layered instruments in Bitwig, I am still not sure what I am missing...In bitwig I can have 8 monosynths in a layer playing in unison, or 'Octophonicaly' with distribution being set by note order, round robin, velocity or whatever...I can have each note feed 1 instance then the next note moves to the next, or I can have all modules play at the same time.

This is what I am talking about, foist 2 minutes (done with Monark in this case) but we may be talking about different things!

Exactly that. Nice!
Wished that was possible in Studio One's multi instrument.
Seems like it would be an easy thing to do really... the amount of instances sets the amount of voices, and just like in Bitwig, you do a round robin over each instance. Think I'll do a feature request, although, the way I know it... none of the super hip Rap produzah kiddos will have any use for stuff like that.

Yeh, you can even play the fx ''Octophonicaly' or even have more than 8 note polyphony! Its also very CPU efficient (as it doesn't pull any CPU unless its playing the note).chk071 wrote: Sun Feb 28, 2021 12:30 pm Exactly that. Nice!Wished that was possible in Studio One's multi instrument.

You could argue that a singe high quality SEM module in a DAW like Bitwig is infinitely more powerful than 8 hardwired...
