I'm really itching for a classic guitar! I'm thinking of choosing one option of three:
1. An Ibanez GA6CE or GA11 (whatever number), which is a cutaway electric classic guitar.
2. Save a little more and purchase Yamaha CGTANT (which also has kind of pickup).
3. Just buy a classic guitar with a mic like Shure PGA57.
I don't know! I feel the last choice is the best! What do you think you would choose?

Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I would use a mic definitely...
Although I cant say I've ever had a decent acoutic amp setup, I've yet to try a good sounding
built in acoustic guitar pickup. Even with multi-thousand dollar guitars...

I've never tried either way. But, most of the Pro players are using mic and I've read some complaints about the sound quality recorded from electric classic guitars. So, I think you are rightpekbro wrote: Sat Oct 21, 2023 10:14 pm I would use a mic definitely...

Just get a decent quality condenser mic (better than dynamics for recording acoustics due to wider frequency response and being more sensitive). They're not that expensive these days, and after a bit of trial and error on placement you can quickly find the best placement to suit the particular guitar/environment.

IMHO you should first determine what kind of strings you prefer, sonically: nylon or regular.
As to pickup vs mics, also consider the convenience factor (only you know how much that matters to you).

Sure. I've thought about it for long time. In the end I found myself like electric guitar and also nylon classic guitar (which I started learning years ago but stopped after one year).cptgone wrote: Sun Oct 22, 2023 1:28 am IMHO you should first determine what kind of strings you prefer, sonically: nylon or regular.

I've already bought a nice electric guitar, but I also like to learn a classic guitar for classic music (Bach, Chopin, etc). So, I think I have made my choice

I'm looking for a 'real' sounding spring 'verb. Difficult to find that drippy Fender splash.

I need to sell a guitar before bying a new one. Well not new. I never buy a new guitar. I save alot of money on the second hand market. I will sell my Ibanez and buy for the third time a evertune equipped guitar. I hate to tune and check the tuning constantly when recording. Yes that's what is done in pro studios.

I build spring reverbs. Are you looking for a real one or a pedal?Bombadil wrote: Sun Oct 22, 2023 11:01 am I'm looking for a 'real' sounding spring 'verb. Difficult to find that drippy Fender splash.

Pedal or plugin. The new Waves Magma looks good. But....Waves....
Having a reverb tank sent across the Atlantic wouldn't be practical.

The Source Audio pedal is good. Really drippy sounding. I liked it better than the Strymon, Boss, and Fender. None of solid state spring or Belton box reverbs will give you that sound.Bombadil wrote: Sun Oct 22, 2023 2:16 pm Pedal or plugin. The new Waves Magma looks good. But....Waves....
