Here is my second installment of my take on this months tracks:
Shane Sanders - Tower of Babel
My favorite is the low grumbling moody bass part. The patch around 48 playing in support of the violin/fiddle type lead is fascinating, not sure what to call it, in some ways it sounds like a far away train horn, very haunting. The hand drum percussion adds allot of interest and mood without bringing too much attention to itself. A super movie track.
eman8ions - Standing on a high cliff
nice intro, Loved the echo-iey, looped ticking/swishing background sounds being run filtered and phased (or whatever). I really like the bass, it has plenty of oomph but stays subtle at the same time. Interesting mixture of peaceful stillness and energetic activity.
kovacs - Rocktronica
Loved the rhythm guitar parts especially the intro. The second guitar solo part is interesting.
Barnadine - Love Strikes
like the odd percussion sounds here and there. "Whoa-whoa" never hurts. Buddy Holly would approve thinks I.
respirator - Biggest Hit
loved the choruses. Great vocal style.
mchlwlsn - Jongleur
Great mix of super clean jazz piano and chorused guitar. Love the piano riff at about 48 sec. The drums and the bass are excellent, they stay out of the way of the leads but remain very listenable by thier own. The overall technical production values are superb, levels, mixing etc.
plunge - Tabasco
Liked the jazzy organ tones. Funky guitar work is very tasty. I really would enjoy this piece bunches more if the drum kit was turned down several notches. Nice composition and feel.
ZioKiller - Noisy Town
Wow! I can't believe I got this for free! Sublime intro. Wonderful levels. Funky, laidback jazzy feel. Beautiful Rhoads tones. Great special effects for intro and ending. First class hand drumming. Like how the bass fills out the mix without dominating it. I really like the Clav parts too.
remco - future bride
I liked the tone of the song until it switches to the future focus. I mean the atmosphere and presentation seems to be more in tune with the depressing side of the situation than the joyful conclusion. I really like the lead patches used. Interesting thing going on between the different melody parts. Also like the use of the string patch in the background in much of the song.
Katanaman - An Open Letter to the Man
Great energy! Manic drumming perfect for headbanging! The angst gushes from the speakers.
