it would benefit from a darker blue background, darker knobs. neon lights would look better with shadows reflecting on darker surfaces.

there are no neon lights on the gui, it's just fx on the video

it's very flat and matt with "3d" knobs and buttons

not public, but i was very surprised by it, and I think users will be, very competitive

That is good news!

So we finally have a teaser, thanks Arturia :hihi:

I'm perfectly fine with Obsession's GUI, although I agree the modulation panel could be better placed at the bottom (regardless of being placed to the left/before the oscillators and envelopes in the hardware panel).

Although I tend to think I'll like the raw sound of the Synapse version better, I also believe that being modeled after the same synth, they're going to give reasonably similar results in the context of a fully processed sound and fully processed mix.

What completely and unmercifully sets the two apart for me (and anyone else interested) is MPE support.
There are going to be things the OB-Xa V simply will not be able to do, saying this as a happy V7 and future V8 customer.

haha, they got me with the lights. neon light pointers would actually rock and be somewhat innovative.

I don't know. this flat, minimalistic thing works for black/grey Legend scheme, but here it kinda doesn't... OK, lets actually wait for the demo.

for the record, I want this thing to be great. I own Legend and I love it. graphical interfaces are just not Synapse's forte. Dune 3 was kinda meh too. but hey, since the sound is good, whatever.

The reality is that Rich seems to hate doing the GUI coding so he does the minimum necessary. I thought he might unload all that stuff onto Marcin but it doesn't seem to have improved since he joined the team.

Really? Like what? I've had Roli controllers now for more than two years and I am yet to find any use for MPE.

Concerning the GUI the layout was never a problem for me while doing tons of patches with it and actually i like it the way it is.

Nobody mentioned yet that X-Mod is included? This was not a feature of the original OB-Xa/OB-8 but only included in the OB-X.
In the OB-X is was a simple on/off button while in the plugin it is a knob that adjusts the amount. In the Arturia plugin this feature is included too.

If you look at the video you can see that the "step sequencer" is actually a Step LFO (called "LFO STEPS" in the GUI) which is available for both LFOs (two full featured LFOs instead of one in the original synth). This could be used like a "normal" step sequencer when "Filter Env Retrig" is activated and the LFO being assigned to pitch modulation.

The fact that there is a Bandpass filter (activated with the "BP" button at the GUI) was alraedy mentioned yesterday. It is a resonant BPF with 12dB and 24dB modes (same switch as for the LPF used there).

Are the OSC1/OSC2/NOISE buttons in the filter section just ON/OFF switches or there's some hidden way to gradually blend them in?

The fact that in the hardware unit, OSC2 has two separate switches for two stages of gain and Obsession only has one (restricting the range of possibilities), kind of makes me wonder if there's more going on which a picture can't show.

on/off osc1 + noise
on 50%/on 100%/off osc 2

there are ways to change volumes tho
