I put a small deposit down at Long & McQuade for two items:

Latest monetary sacrifice to the gear gods
This was something I’ve had my eyes on when going Mac but was put off by the price.
Finally found someone flogging one for under £400.
Now reading the manual turns out you can keep 2 different configurations in memory and switch between them on the fly, perfect for a with DAW and DAWless modes.
Very physically deep module. I only have one rack deep enough to house it.

Got my Landscape Ferrous today.
The ultra-quick review is: it's not an eBow (which does magnetic feedback), it just spins magnets on a disc. So the frequencies that it excites are determined by the speed of rotation. You have a dial, an inconveniently located touch plate, a button, or CV to control that speed.
In my testing so far it works best on instruments that (A) has lots of potential vibration modes and (B) really wants to resonate acoustically and (C) has ferrous strings/tines/etc. The best were:
Bowed psaltery: chromatically tuned and closely spaced strings, so there are almost always multiple strings within the magnets' influence excited at whatever spin rate is happening at any given time. Change the rate and shift the chord and harmonics. But it never vibrates so hard it gets into trouble. Neat.
Acoustic guitar: six nice longish strings to choose from and a good acoustic resonating body to let them ring.
17-tine kalimba: those tines are willing to bend their pitch to sing out, and in fact if you tune it in too closely it resonates a bit too much and starts rattling. There's more metal mass here and you have to be careful not to let the magnets pull the gizmo into the tines. But if you can finesse it it's pretty great.
Hasn't been that exciting on bass guitar (but the pickup definitely picks up the spinning magnets!), dulcimer (not enough different resonances), small or large steel tongue drums. It did nothing at all with my marching xylophone (probably aluminum bars) or Remo ocean drum (no idea what the shot is in there).
I didn't try the shakers I have to see if any of those have steel shot. Or the snare of my mini cajon, or the lap steel guitar.

And Rubber Monkey have got an order for some of these stands finally. Can't get these type of things in NZ for love nor money usually. So obvs, I need one to put the MS5 on, and hopefully if it fits on one level I can put the MS5 right next to the Monopoly - 2 fliptops sitting next to each other that will look rather lovely I imagine.

I decided to build more Buchla 200 clone modules, so I need a bigger case. I ordered this one from SAmodular.

Luckily the new case will fit in the pelican case I already have.
I just finished building clones of 207 and 257 modules. I'm working on a 281 now and a 292c when when the case arrives. I'll post info and images of the build in the DIY section later.
I still haven't ruled out the possibility of adding some 200e modules at some point but I think this system will keep me happy for a while.

I built a folding eurorack case like this years ago but it was just too heavy and it didn't close all the way when patched. I didn't even bother finishing it.
These cases are surprisingly light. Maybe not a big concern if you don't need to haul your synths around.
I've always liked the look of the CalArts style cases and the Buchla folding cases. I think the first time I saw a 200e system was around 2007/2008 and was completely enamored.

I saw that Modest Mouse have a reverb shop where they are selling a bunch of synth stuff. Some rare/hard to find eurorack modules in there, lots at reasonable prices.

Some fun stuff. I know it’s not rare, but good price on the EQD Afterneath module.justin3am wrote: Thu Sep 05, 2024 3:47 pm I saw that Modest Mouse have a reverb shop where they are selling a bunch of synth stuff. Some rare/hard to find eurorack modules in there, lots at reasonable prices.

I’m all in on the QMMG (if its available) after some recent purchases, plus no space and sitting on a pile of things to sell. I definitely have no business buying anything else just yet.

Yeah, I hear you. I'm gonna try for another QMMG but since it's such a limited run, I'm not gonna try very hard. I'm not greedy.
I will tell you that some dealers have already sold through their allotment (though they weren't supposed to). I talked to the folks at Perfect Circuit and know that they won't make them available until they have the go ahead but other dealers I spoke with (whom I will not name) said that they took secret pre-orders. I think Perfect Circuit will be getting 11 of them but I'm not sure if they are holding any for in-store purchase.
I really wish Tony would do a run of QMMGs without the vactrols installed. I have a bunch of vintage and modern VTL5C3/2s and you can still get new ones from Xvive and CoolAudio if you buy in bulk. However, while that would take some pressure off from the supply side, I'm sure it would cause a significant increase in support requests.

Geez, looking at those prices I wish I'd waited a couple of years to sell my Tyme Sefari mk2. (They don't seem to be elevating their prices just for the "Modest Mouse" name, it's just how the market has gone.)

It's always the things that I have no intention of selling that start to fetch ridiculous prices!
But I'm not sure those $8-900 TSmk2s are actually selling. I've been seeing more Harvestman stuff on Reverb just sit and get discounted a bunch.

Damn! Didn’t think vendors would do that!justin3am wrote: Thu Sep 05, 2024 5:17 pm Yeah, I hear you. I'm gonna try for another QMMG but since it's such a limited run, I'm not gonna try very hard. I'm not greedy.

I like the sounds I’m getting, so it won’t be the end of the world and don’t want to think of it as my holy grail of a device.
Foosnark is happy with natural gate and I hear many others are happy with that too.
