Hi guys,

I just spent 2-3 hours comparing the PLParEQ with the two Algorithmix EQs LinearPhase Red and LinearPhase Orange.
What can I say, I'm blown away.
These three plugins are on a very high quality level, soundwise. These are mastering equalizers. The PLParEQ goes even beyond that because it has so many more filters available and all of them do sound very, very good. The differences between these three plugins are rather small, even between Red and Orange. Most of the differences were in the range of little differences of the values that needed to be dialed in to get a nearly identical sound on all of them. So I leave out all the small subtleties like "this one sounds a tiny bit more ..." and point out a few facts:
PLParEQ4 is FREEWARE while either of the Algorithmix EQs costs €1190 incl. VAT for EU residents. CPU usage is way higher on the Algorithmix EQs than on the PLParEQ4 when all EQs are on full quality settings. I wasn't able to dial in full quality on the Algorithmix Red EQ, this simply was too much for my tiny P4 @ 3.5GHz!!! :hihi:
Make your own conclusions out of all this and don't forget to check it out for yourself! For me it's a clear thing what I want and I already have it. For free! And after lotsa bug fixes PLParEQ4 is rock solid here now. Thanx a lot RefinedAudiometrics!

Best wishes, FRitz

I think we owe it to RAL to keep word of mouth going about their company in general. Hopefully, they will have much success with their payware 10 band EQ, which, from talking with David McClain, I gather will be very nice indeed.

How much is the 10-band, I don't see the price at the website.

Well....if you have to ask...erm...um. Nevermind.

Next question? :)
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

Hard to say, but it could be on par with Algorithmix's prices. They are developing a full fledged GUI with graph manipulation. But I am putting words in RAL's mouth. The bottom line is, to my knowledge, they really haven't made up their minds as to how high-end of a market to aim at with the payware version. But I wish them much success in whatever it is they do.

That's kind of what I'm thinking...don't want to fall too much in love with a single band EQ - or do I ? :D

I'm with you Frippertronix - no reason not to wish them good luck, I believe it'll probably be way out side of my area of interest and $$$ - just guessing but they are discussing Massenburg EQs and such at the website...it's a nice gesture for them to give a free EQ and get some of you folks over here to run it around the block a few times, kick the tires and whatnot!

4 bands if you can do without the GUI.

Because of early crashes and CPU drain. People also thought it was a ploy to get a free beta test. I think RAL just underestimated how challenging their software is to run on a wide variety of systems and hosts.

4 bands seems pretty reasonable to me - most freeware EQ's I've seen only have two- and, I like not having a GUI!

Guys,

Is there something funky goin on with this plug (PLParEQ1) when using it on a mono track ?
Or in conjuction with other plugs before or after this EQ ?
I'm getting weird crashes in Nuendo 3.1.
Anyone care to test this ?

thx,
Stevie

Hi Stevie,

I'm on Nuendo 2.2 and I've got no problem with PLParEQ1 on mono tracks.

Hi Fritz,
Thx for the reply
Maybe it's because I've used more than one instance of the plug in the same session.
Could you test that ?
Notin funky goin on when using it together with other plugs ? Dynamics for instance ?
I can't get my head around it .....

Strange
