Try this and then use another program to analyze the midi file or read a little harmony theory (there are chords dictionaries ad nauseum) ==> http://www.pluto.dti.ne.jp/~araki/amazingmidi/

must be coming in a near future, i'm persuaded

...there should actually exists some algorythms able to analyse and at least detect a chord or a kind of chord ( relatively or absolutely ) in a short sample of sustained harmonies or single hits

I don't own cameleon but Ben from Camelaudio told once that it resynthesis engine could recognise chords at a certain degree, ...and it was a few years ago !

...i suppose that something like you're asking for isn't maybe actually released because there is no obvious instant need for it, but i'm no developper ,so at least i can't objectively tell what going on exactly ...

To tell you the truth it doesnt even have to be an audio plugin.. even a stand alone or one that can detect the chord name from MIDI would work for me.. anything..

Thanks for the tip! Great program! DMM seems to be a goodie.
Has anyone found this program as a plug-in or is it just stand alone?

do you want to detect the chord of midi inputs or audio files?
.. very different beasts.

i found a prog a few years ago designed to translate notes from guitar to midi. it worked quite well - I remember triggering a chord or two in synth1 from it, so it worked AND it displayed the current chord. (can't remember the name right now - I'll have a look after work)
I can't think of any midi based chord translators, though I'd be surprised if atleast one didnt exist.
anyone know of one?

I know there was something that told you the chord from MIDI chords...

Polyphonic pitch detection is hard. A technique called cepstral analysis is used by high-end R&D folk to categorise music for indexing purposes.
There is a product called GuitarSynth at http://www.lateralsol.com which can convert a polyphonic guitar input to MIDI. Several of my correspondents have reported that it works very well. (Sadly the developer succumbed to cancer last year.)
