So basicaly I'm searching some info on the Synths sounds he used on Chameleon, Spank-a-lee
and Actual Proof. And it would be kinda nice if you had some advice on how to recreate them
with a vst. I've got all Mr. Ray's and different distortion effects and wha's if thats' what
I need, just need some advice.
Thx in advance

I have copies of all Hancock's tunes from that period,my music is also heavily influenced by those albums. Unfortunately all my vinyl is in storage at the moment and I could'nt tell you specifically what he used.

There are any number of payware and freeware synths that could replicate that sound, just look for something that has virtual analogue in the title and you're half way there. My own personal favs for that sort of thing are Albino 3,Imposcar,Oddity, Minimonsta, and the Korg Polysix and Ms20 from the legacy collection. That's just off the top of my head.
I can't think of any particular freeware synths at the moment, but I have used some good freeware synths for that style as well. I suggest you look through the listings here, then you'll find hundreds of pay and freeware synths that fit the bill.

Jeez, what *didn't* he use? Today he just uses a Korg, and EVP88 :-)

I'd settle for the Clav, Oberheim and Rhodes he plays here:

"Polybit" should get you close. (freeware)
The presets are close to the arp sound enough that you can tweek it in mins to get THAT sound.

ok guys thanx for all the great info
but has anyone got an idea of his original setup, like what effects he used on the clav
and rhodes? It might be easier for me to get the sound I need that way..

do you mean the specific wah pedal, flanger, phaser, distortion, amplifier (and possibly whatever else) used?

I've found I can usually get very similar sounds just playing around with a rhodes and/or clav and those types of effects.

I quite like the EVD6 in Logic for clav sounds.

@annode
cut the crap
I have basicaly no idea what kind of effects he's been using (didn't really mean which brand) and google hasn't been helpful either. and you are just worse.
@ jrs1: I was searching for info on the settings of the effects, basicaly any good
vst/settings combo's you guys have come up with, 'cause I'm not too much into synth
programming and I guess I can't seem to find out what kind of effects he's been using
on actual proof for example.

For the bassline in Chameleon try the mda jx10, the rubberbacking patch. For the lead, try the muon or the dreamstation. They all come pretty close to doing what you might want, for this song at least. I think there's also a German guy who did lead sheet for this song, I have it but I can't remember where I actually got it, and it's pretty accurate. But of course it's a simple piece and you can figure it out for yourself. As for actual proof, well, you need a rhodes. Spank-a-lee, I think that's an arp 2600.
Ciao!
