is there a possiblility to convert sample to oscillator and then randomize the single wave cycles?

i got this tip from charlieclouser on gearslutz for NIN guitar sound

"Take a half-second sample of a distorted guitar power chord, convert to oscillator, then wave shape and BLAM you'd have a harsh blast of digital future-guitar that sounded great. Put up two or three oscillators like this, one dropped an octave, and you're in industrial heaven."

Sure it is. It's what Serum is all about :tu:

Not sure how to randomize it properly though - could be random LFO, or maybe try map velocity to wavetable position.

I'm familiar with what Charlie is referring to in that post, as I worked with him on the NIN Fragile album.

The exact technique isn't currently possible in Serum, but it could be in the future!

Is this not simply taking a snippet of a sustained power chord; Performing an FFT; Performing an IFFT to ensure the same data in a window of sufficient size; Then reading the array as oscillator?

Then you can shape with an ADSR and apply distortion.

this would be splendid! cause i dunno Turbosynth and it is very old already. i could get some nice drones etc with Serum like Quake 1 and also with a sampler (Nuance) pitched down and stretched weird noises which sound like monstermumbling and so on. lovely. still struggling with getting some nice horn/weird sounding pads/atmospheres.

but the technique described by Charlie was because of the guitarsound from this theme as far as i remember

just awesome!

oh and a smaller example at 5 mins

One of my favourite game OSTs of all time - So many subtle creepy noises throughout every track
