I'd like to be able to click on an audio part and select "edit with..xxxx." (I'm thinking audacity - somthing nice and simple for quick chops, normalising etc) , then when I'm finished in editing I'd like to be able to save it back into XT easily.

An alternative would be using simple copy-n-paste.

If I could copy an audio part and paste it into Audacity, make some edits, copy in audacity and paste back into Ext, that would be just as good and possibly easier to implement.

(NB - For audacity read any audio editor - wavelab, audition etc.)

thanks for a wonderful product, Jorgen :D

I agree...This would be nice :)

It will be really incredible if we can drag audio and midi files from XT to other programs, the same way we drag them into XT.

Great for sending to audio editors, beatslicers, other hosts ... also great for exporting.

Since EXT has good drag and drop support, this allows dragging between components.

Invoking an external Audio Editor is already on the FR List.

As for dragging and dropping to and from other applications, I guess that needs some co-operation by the "other application" too. This is a new idea to me, so does anyone have any good examples of its implementation elsewhere?

And what formats would need to be supported?

hmmmm.

I can drag and drop a standard wav file from explorer into audacity. It may be that Jorgen can follow that convention somehow. Can't see a way to drag back out of audacity though.

I'm not sure D-n-D is the way to go, though, precisely because of the co-operation needed.

all apps can cut/copy/paste , on the other hand. Maybe that would be a route to explore?????

You have a point about not all apps allowing you to use drag-n-drop. But there are probably other apps that allow D-n-D and don't support copy-pasting from the OS clipboard (IIRC, DR-008 is an example for such an app). So I guess it would be best for EXT to work with both.

Either way, the idea is to allow quick and easy transfer of both audio and midi outside EnergyXT. This will make it integrate better with many other programs, including editors and other hosts.

Sure this is possible...and a great idea.
Like dragging sliced samples from PhatmaticPro onto pads in Battery or AudioParts in XT. This probably falls under jens feature request for "object oriented" improvements.
