I use the MacBook Pro mainly to make and play music but now I’m upgrading my old iPad Pro (1 gen) to a new one. Of course, all the virtual instruments and Cubasis work well even in that old one. Would that new basic iPad with 256G memory be enough for occasional music use? I mostly use guitar simulators and synths on iPad but sometimes I record ideas on Cubasis 3. Are there any experiences / recommendations?

I also still use the 1st Gen iPro 128 GB and I still don't see any reason to upgrade.

So, for your application even the lowest current iPad would be enough. A13 is quite powerful but I don't see much advantage of getting an entry iPad over your iPro.

For Storage, since you can use external USB-Storage (as of iOS 13) iPad Storage is not as important as before. So 256GB is more than enough for music, unless you start doing 4K music videos.

my 2 cents :)

Thank you for your opinion. I’m going to upgrade because I’m getting birthday gift money from the company I’m working at. Just tested the new iPad mini and considering it even though the screen is smaller. But it’s very light and I usually travel a lot and it would be nice in an aeroplane.

haha, yes self-gifting is important! :D

the newest iPad is immense power-beast. I also pondered getting one. The sizer factor is esp. good for travelling, I am always uneasy to take my 12.9" iPro outside, because of the size alone.

believe or not, I did mastering my own song using Ipad air 2 gen, with Fabfilter Mastering bundle, and the output is great :)
