Some jerk made a comment in another thread about how the mix was garbage, and I thought, "it's not amazing, but garbage?" Then I checked it... and it was garbage... because I used a rough mix file for the video and never changed it.
Thank you! I think we probably have similar influences, which is why our tastes are aligned.wagtunes wrote: Sat Feb 21, 2026 8:55 pm Absolutely LOVE it. And no, I'm NOT depressed. Great track and quite unique.
2 thumbs up.
Thank you.Benedict wrote: Sat Feb 21, 2026 10:25 pm Cool. It is always great to see (hear) ppl doing their own thing. This is the heart of Indie music, and too few are still doing it. I hope that the slop thing (AI or otherwise) leads to a resurgence of individuality in music as people realise that it is this or we are all dead inside.

I was thinking about AI art today, well, because it's constantly being brought up and shoved down my throat at every turn, but something that seems a salient came to me. There are two types of people, the pro and the against. The pro are probably more likely to have come about at a time when making a living doing music means social media likes. Finding a way to monetize their TikTok or YouTube channels. They never lived in a time when a bar would hire a band to play to entertain drinkers. The anti Prompt AI people do remember this, and are bitter because after all the herculean effort to get somewhere, they were ignored. I have to say that it's a bit annoying to see an AI track getting a ton of attention and my song has been listened to 3 times since I posted it (in several places) and one of those times was me.Benedict wrote: Sun Feb 22, 2026 10:10 pm Generative is not made for the listener. It is 100% made for the prompter. Just as playing Guitar Hero is nothing to do with an audience - as by its very nature, there is no audience - Chap GPU and Sussunio are all about the individual who has chosn to live in a helmet with inward-facing mirrors.

Don't forget Ariana Not-So-Grande lolBenedict wrote: Mon Feb 23, 2026 1:49 am The issue is that the audience in general has moved. It used to be that there was broadly one choice, real musicians doing it. The results had real content that required investment from the audience. Even a gibberish song like Bob Wills "Take Me Back To Tulsa" has meaning, not only in the music but the words; as well as being crafted for couple-dancing. This was clearly being buffed off by the end of the 80s (maybe well before that).
Let's pick Pop as that is the stuff generally selling the most units, getting the most plays, whether Ray-di-i-o or Spotifry. Couple dancing was also dead, which may be related; It deffo points to a me-oriented - not teamwork - mindset.
ABBA "Dancing Queen" is a complex song with deep themes under the seemingly trivial surface. This means that while it is a lot of fun in the moment, there are universal themes that engage the feelings - the reason this song still has so much value even now. The same applies to songs like The Sweet "Wig Wam Bam" or KLF "3AM Eternal". They require something from the audience. By adding this something, they return greater value. In its own way "3AM Eternal" is at least the equal of Sisters Of Mercy "This Corrosion" or Candlemass "Solitude".
Then this was not only watered down but deliberately removed when Pop became gibberish. Not only is the musicality of MC Hammer "Can't Touch This" or Vanilla Ice "Ice Ice Baby" streets behind Duran Duran "Girls On Film" or Rick Springfield "Jessie's Girl" but they are streets ahead of whatever no-name slop is dripped out of the machine now. This is not a personal choice thing but a massive change in content and mindsets. Generative AI is the (current) ultimate in contentless 'music' (read narcotic-noise-drip).
What happens next is some Hpister Harrys try to gaslight the room (and deride me personally) by saying, "Oh but duuude, U iz not trying hard enuff ya lazum Boomer. There are great songz being made today." If I "Ok so show them to me," they send 3-4 links to things that wouldn't pass muster in the 80s, let alone before. I cannot make it to the end of them like I can Aqua "Barbie Girl" or Cannibal Corpse singing about chopping someone up. They are just more of the same noize, overLOUD and W-I-D-E noise, but still without value in the music or words. I get they may mean something to them but if they were so valuable, they would be on the Radio. Songs I listed above were everywhere and even derided for being too lightweight compared to Eagles or Jackson Browne, which is true but also a bit irrelevant. Still, compared to Lady Gargle or Cardi G(an) they are frikken' Mozart (who was a lollylegged lightweight compared to Bach).
I say this listening to a Peter Murphy track that wasn't on Top 40 radio but Peter Murphy! YooBoob is offering me this semi-obscure song - totally obscure to the Trailer Swift fan.

Thanks! I really appreciate the listen.Dave_p wrote: Mon Feb 23, 2026 2:20 am Thanks for the depressing music. Picked up on it at 1:15. Well done.
I enjoyed it! I also didn't find it depressing in the sense of being turned off.
Thanks! I was just sort of joking. Maybe "moody" is a better term, though it came to be in a time that was pretty depressing. Spent a year trying to get something going in California and ended up being on the wrong side of a bunch of broken promises. I couldn't really connect with anyone, so after a year, I ran away, back to New York. Things got a lot better after that.Cavey Arrgh wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 4:14 amI enjoyed it!
