What Is The Best Theremin VST?

I am doing a song about the TV show Dark Shadows. For the lead I want to use a Theremin for obvious reasons. What is the best one out there? I need it to be as dead on as possible or the song won't work. Close is not close enough.

Oh, and it has to be 64 bit. Spook Keys won't run in Cubase 14.

Probably. Here's something though that you probably didn't know. The theme was actually played on a Tannerin. It has a slightly different sound if you listen close enough.

As for the show itself, I bought the DVD set which comes in a coffin. It is so cool. We'll be watching it for years. You know, Barnabas Collins doesn't arrive until episode 300. In spite of that, the show was actually pretty good even before he arrived. But Jonathan Frid turned it into a cult classic.

Anyway, I finally found something suitable and completed my tribute. The theme is played during the instrumental break.

So that begs the question is there a Tannerin emulation plugin?

I haven't found any Tannerin emulations. As for what I used, I found a Kontakt instrument by Soundiron that sounds really good.

Ok thanks, I don't think I could justify purchasing a Theremein plugin in these times but what if one took a couple of sine waves and set them up in an X-Y pad on a synth that has such a feature?

That might be a fun sound design challenge.

Maybe this will help. My own theremin is the OpenTheremin v3. The sound is actually created by wavetable synthesis (there's 3 wavetable frames in it iirc). It's all open source. I'd try extracting that wavetable from the source code and plugging it into an existing wavetable synth like Vital or Surge and seeing what you get.

It feels like to get an authentic theremin sound it's gonna be as much about the control as it is about the oscillator. Do you have some kind of continuous controlling MPE surface you could play on?
