The 'morphiest' morphing I've found (Max For Live / REAPER)

Or at least something a bit different to the usual 'spectral vocoder' type approach. This one produces quite dramatic frequency bending transitions between sounds. Certainly works better as a transition type effect as the inbetween sound is most often an inharmonic jumble, but it doesn't half sound 'morphy' as a transition.
Implemented in Max For Live by ArnauBrichs here https://maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=8281 and James Bradbury in REAPER as part of ReaCoMa here https://github.com/ReaCoMa/ReaCoMa-2.0

thanks for that!
you could say, that im collecting these spectral cross/morph thingies. so, another one in my collection
seems like this is based on the FluCoMa library, maybe... cause it was mentioned in the description. The IRCAM stuff is based on the supervp library
the author also has another version out, that costs 5 bucks

This looks amazing. I really wish Bitwig would build some kind of M4L equivalent.

I was just thinking the other day how cool it would be if some daw integrated plugdata as a M4L equivalent.billinder33 wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 11:26 am This looks amazing. I really wish Bitwig would build some kind of M4L equivalent.

Well, plug data is close to it. You need to patch it together… In this case it would not need the deep integration with the DAW…
Though to do FFT stuff in plug data is not as straight forward as in Max/MSP…

I completely forgot that I actually downloaded REAPER to try this out as I first read about the implementation in the FluCoMa project. James Bradbury had adapted parts of it as ReaScript which seemed like a convenient way to check it out. I found the Max device later. Appreciate it's not Bitwig, but at least there's another reasonably cheap option with a generous demo if you wanted to give it a look. FluCoMa certainly implements it cos I discovered it through James Bradbury's FluCoMa REAPER scripts, but I'm not sure if it was originally their research? Can't believe I forgot to mention this in the original post.dieterlaser wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 10:31 am

FactorSynth is a really amazing plug that (I think) is also based on / extends FluCoMa work if you'd like to check it out. VST3 and AU options since FactorSynth 3. Really nice plug built around the FluCoMa "non negative matrix factorisation" sound decomposition process which you can also check out in James Bradbury's Reaper scripts.

thanks for the heads up about factorsynth. interesting

Giving this one a bump. KVR usually goes a bit mad for morphing, so maybe a few more will be interested if this gets another moment in the sun.
