So, I guess I shouldn't have bought so many. I didn't realize you got one free year of updates, then have to pay to update. I also didn't realize they would be so vague about the price.

Their WUP pricing is screwy, costing more than the plugins as Waves pretend they’re not heavily on sale every other day.
I dropped them about 5 years ago, uninstalled and forgotten. Plenty of alternatives these days too.

Then don't buy WUP. You don't have to. The plugins will still work fine. I have plugins from v10 to v17 (many of them giveaways), never bought WUP, never really had issues.

My view is balanced :
I'm not in love with WUP, BUT there are a couple of Waves plugins I LOVE and would happily purchase the upgrade plan for IF I have to in say 3 or 4 years. WORTH it if you love it especially the prices are reasonable !
That's the case for the Scheps Omni Channel 2, I'm super happy with this strip ! Also LOVE StudioVerse, free and so powerful !!

It’s really this simple. Honestly, their version updates are usually pretty minor anyway. If you don’t want/need to update, then don’t.MirkoVanHauten wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 1:40 pm Then don't buy WUP. You don't have to. The plugins will still work fine. I assume you can just buy them on sale again in the future if needed.

But why would anyone want to? I guess some people like being treated like crap but there are so many great companies in the saturated plugin market with reasonable pricing practices, and good, pro-consumer update policies, that giving any money to companies with terrible practices, like WUP, then repeating it, just seems whacky to me. The one activation per license without an active WUP restriction was the final kick in the balls for me.Cuauhtli wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 2:48 pm I assume you can just buy them on sale again in the future if needed.
Waves is on my, "not worth it, pretend they don't exist, never give them another dime" list. If anyone is annoyed by WUP and their business practices, I suggest doing the same. Audio plugins are a big pond with lots of choices.
If someone's not bothered by it, then spend your money how you'd like.

I've never seen that, I've gotten a bunch of free Waves plugins with their giveaways over the years and they all still work fine. I don't pay for WUP either. Which plugins stopped working for you? Maybe there was a particular giveaway with an expiration date, but I don't have any that stopped working.Tubeman wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 5:13 pm I noticed that also their "free" plugins turn to paid plugins after a set expiration time. Not my understanding of a free plugin.

This is what I'm getting also. You don't have to update. That pricing policy is whack. So I have 6 plugins, what is that, like $60 to update. Throw in a free plugin and you might have something there. I also assume this is for just one more year?

Currently Waves Central shows under "my products" that SuperTap expired almost nine years ago (lol) and Curves Resolve they gave away free recently expires Jan 2027. Haven't actually used either one recently. Or does it mean only the updates will cost? I don't have SuperTap installed atm and there seems to be no other way to install it now than pay them.seangm wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 5:16 pmI've never seen that, I've gotten a bunch of free Waves plugins with their giveaways over the years and they all still work fine.
