Hi everyone,I've been working as a music producer for many years. My academic background is in Computer Science (B.Sc. and M.Sc.), so building software has always been as much a part of my life as making music.
Over the years, one part of my mixing workflow has always felt unnecessarily cumbersome: checking mix translation outside the studio.
My typical process looked like this:
- Export the latest mix.
- Copy it to my phone.
- Open Spotify (or another player) for reference tracks.
- Try to level-match by ear.
- Switch back and forth between apps.
- Listen in the car, earbuds, Bluetooth speakers, etc.
- Take notes somewhere and repeat.
There was nothing technically difficult about it, just a lot of friction every time I wanted to validate a revision.
So I built a tool called **MixProof** to streamline that specific stage of the workflow.
The design goals were very narrow:
- Import one or more reference tracks alongside the current mix.
- Automatic loudness matching for meaningful A/B comparisons.
- Instant switching between mix and references without changing playback position.
- Transfer mixes directly from the DAW to the phone through a desktop companion.
- Record voice notes while listening.
- Isolate frequency bands to focus on specific parts of the spectrum during translation checks.
- Listen on the systems that actually matter (car, earbuds, phone speaker, Bluetooth speaker, etc.) without repeatedly exporting and organizing files.
It isn't intended to replace studio monitors, room correction, VSX, Sonarworks, or any critical listening environment. Those solve a different problem.
The goal is simply to reduce the friction involved in evaluating how a mix translates once it leaves the studio.
I'm posting here because I'd genuinely like feedback from experienced engineers and producers.
