Best way to send a "all notes off" message

Hey,

I'm having a bug attack in Tracktion 2 when ReWiring Gigastudio 3. For some reason or a conspiracy of combined reasons, the sequencer isn't sending an all notes off message through ReWire to GS3 when the transport is stopped, resulting in the notes just sticking on until I start the sequence again or manually send the message somehow. Not a problem on short envelope things like brass stabs, BIG problemo with organ, choir, etc. As you can guess, a big choir chord sticking on every time you stop the sequence to do an edit is the kind of thing that has you climbing the walls in, oh, about 3.6 seconds.

I have a controller that may have assignable front panel keys that could send a notes off message (A Roland A-30) but I actually prefer my Casio :hihi: because I like the action better, and I don't think I can assign something like that on there, soooo....

I need a VST plug or something that can just sit there ahead of the ReWire plug in Tracktion and do nothing until I need to turn all notes off, so it will just take an extra mouse click to shut the damn thing up when I stop transport on the sequencer. Any ideas?

Beat you to that one. Doesn't work. Uless you mean doing it really fast or something. I did try turning e to e off, then back on.

Dude---even closing the ReWire filter, then replacing it results in the sticking notes just coming back up again. Could this mean it's really GS3 weirding out, not Tracktion? It does read note off in all the other circumstances, like the note actually ending or getting to the end of a clip. Only stop on the transport doesn't send note off.

say, ttoz, do you use Giga 3.1 with Tracktion 2? I'm not getting any responses over in the RMS forum.

Edit, you beat me with you post.

Thansk for the suggestion, though.

Anyone else use GS 3.1 and T2?

Ok, I know it's a money spending solution, but have you seen this?

Yea, and I had the demo of the version before the current version and I couldn't get it to work like ReWire. It wouldn't send sequencer data to GS, it just allowed GS to function as a plugin but not be sequenced. When I tried making the ports work right to achieve an effect like ReWire, it gave me some weird message like "does not work with the slower Windows ports". I emailed Max and he was puzzled. Then I didn't have time to get back to it right away and the demo timed out. If I can get the latest version of the demo to install and run, I'll try again.

So...just not having much luck with this whole thing yet.

Soundfonts for me, I guess. :x :o  :help:

Isn't there a "reset" button somewhere in Tracktion? I really don't know T2 at all, but I would imagine there's some kind of global reset all controllers like there is in SX in some edit page somewhere?

I guess another idea would be to write a midi part set to all channels, with just an all notes off message. Save it as a part, then save it as a project default. I used to do that with old Cubasev3 and previous, because some midi synths would stick. Which means every project already has the all notes off part when you open it up (I used to have it muted), then if anything stuck, you just unmute it, hit return-to-zero and play, and bingo, everything's OK again.

It's only a pain the first time you do it...once it's saved as a part, just remember to save it into the default project and use that default every time you start a project. But...I'd be surprised if T2 didn't have some kind of global controller reset... :?

kritikon, thanks for the suggestion, but that woiuldn't work well for my needs since I need to stay where I stop on the piano roll to do edits so I can't return to zero as a way to send the notes off message. It would have to be a plug that can communicate directly with the ReWire VSTi so I can just do a mouseclick. Otherwise it's too time consuming.

However, for now I'm finding that if I just hit the program change button on my controller, it tels GS3 something that makes it shut up, though it doesn't seem to change anything else (like loaded instruments). Still a bit of a pain since I have to go up to the k/b and hit the button, then go back to the mouse. I know it sounds like whining but I do a lot of stopping, rewinding, and restarting playback as I go through an exaustive process of "perfecting" my work in the editing phase. The extra slowdown factor adds up and disrupts my train of thought. Just one of those things you'd expect your DAW to do correctly, so it's a little frustrating.

I just knocked up this thing in Synthedit:

All Notes Off

As well as the STFU button it should automatically send all notes off messages when you press stop.. but afaik Tracktion does that already, so it may not make a difference.. let me know.

Wow, IIRs, you are an excellent and generous soul. I will definitely try that one out tonight after work (I'm there now :D , can't you tell? ). The patch change on the controller was working, but it does send actal patch changes to any other sampler I have open alongside GS, so it has a downside. I'll DL your amazing creation and see if it works out.

Thanks again!!!

That STFU button has to be the best-labelled parameter for any plugin I've ever seen. :D

as it goes i'm having a strange stuck notes problem with filterscapeVA at the moment; sometimes when i load a project, one of the instances of the plug is stuck on a note :?: odd thing is tho, e-to-e button doesn't help, and giving it new midi input doesn't always help either. sometimes pressing the same note that is stuck on helps, sometimes it doesn't. weird.

i don't know if it's a problem with the plug or T tho. confusing!
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.
