Conceived and designed as an exceptional virtual embodiment of a Steinway CD 327 grand, Eighty Eight affords piano and keyboard players alike the opportunity to experience a world-class grand piano from the relative comfort and proximity of their digital audio workstation.
Exhaustively sampled and expertly voiced, Eighty Eight was recorded within the same acoustic confines as the SONiVOX Symphonic Collection, utilizing the same recording philosophy of the simplest signal chain with the highest quality A/D converters and mic pre's. The result is an instrument of "stunning clarity, finesse and power", according to SONiVOX.
The Eighty Eight package also provides a wealth of additional instruments, pads, and textures which, when taken as a whole, supply the composer a considerable arsenal of tools with which to serve and stimulate the creative muse.

For the price $15, it's a quite good sound. It has some character and the sound is quite homogenic over the keyboard, although some notes have more release, it's not too obvious. The sound is not over compressed compared to Ravenscroft 275 for example.
I have to do some EQ to enhance some frequencies because when playing chords it becomes a bit unclear. The keyboard response setting could be better as there is only presets.
I think the sound is better to play classical than Jazz.
I have a crash on Reaper but I'm not sure it was due to the piano since I was using also IK plugins to EQ.

This is a great sounding piano that really sings...
It is perfectly placed in the sound field and the definition is excellent...
I like this piano with just a touch of limiter - no EQ or reverb....
The slight ambience you get with the "dry" mix is spot on...
This piano is dynamic and you want to dig in and play this instrument..
Unlike many sampled pianos, the notes don't compress when you thump them...There's a "lyrical" quality to the tone - bell-like in the top end and the lower registers speak clearly with real definition at all times.
The soundstage is perfectly maintained across the entire range. There is only one perspective - but it is the right one :)
The actual piano samples are about 7GB - not so big by today's standards -but it is the quality of the recording and the "musicality" of the instrument that is the appealing factor here...
This is a beautiful sounding instrument and anyone looking for a sampled piano that really feels great to play should give this one a listen...
UPDATE : Nov 10 2011...Sonivox have just come through with the request for an x64 install (for PC only at this stage) and it is now 100% stable in Sonar X1 Pro x64...I believe that there were some other small tweaks in the UD also...
