The heart of Studio One 's uniquely intuitive design is its deep drag-and-drop workflows. More than the ability to drag-and-drop an object to a new location on the timeline, Studio One lets you use drag-and-drop to do just about anything. Drag audio loops from the Browser to the Arranger and automatically create an Audio Track to play them back. Add plug-in effects—even specific presets—to the audio simply by dragging them from the Browser and dropping them on the desired track or channel. Or hold ALT/Option to drag a plug-in onto a single event as Event FX. Drag any plug-in to the Sends section of a channel to create a send, add an FX Channel and add the plug-in as send effect – all with a single move.

Ready to add a virtual instrument? You got it. Just drag it from the Browser to the Arranger Window to create a new Instrument Track and instantiate the plug-in. Drag another virtual instrument onto the same track and either create a Multi-Instrument or replace the first plug-in.

Open the Studio One Mixer and copy complete insert FX chains from on channel to another by drag-and-drop. New in version 5.1, complete send chain levels and routing can be copied from one channel to another simply with drag and drop. Drag tempo maps detected by the integrated Melodyne extension onto the Tempo Track to set the map for the entire Song. Convert audio to MIDI using Melodyne via drag-and-drop. New in version 5.3, drag chords from the Chord Track to an Instrument Track to begin composing right away. Chord Track detects and displays the chords you've played, so newly recorded passages will follow the established chord progression. Change a chord in Chord Track, and the entire arrangement will follow the change. Drag chords around. Substitute chords to see if they sound better. Or use Harmonic Editing to smash creative blocks and inspire you with new ideas. And if you're light on music theory and compose by ear, use the Chord Preview function to audition your chords—or simply drag and drop chords to an Instrument track to render the chords in place. You can even drag Audio Events or Note Events up to the Chord Track to detect their chords automatically. And once an Audio Event's chords have been detected, you can simply drag and drop it onto an Instrument Track to create MIDI chords from it.

Inspiring plug-ins.

With a complete suite of effects plug-ins, Studio One 5 supercharges your mixing. These plug-ins are so good, we've made a few available for use in any DAW by popular demand. From State Space modeled guitar amps to lush reverbs and polyrhythmic delays, Studio One has all the plug-ins you need to mix and produce. Studio One Professional's unique Pipeline XT plug-in lets you use boutique and vintage analog signal processors as easily as software plug-ins. Studio One's powerful Splitter plug-in lets run multiple plug-ins in parallel on a single channel.


Splitter is a powerful mixing feature that lets you route multiple simultaneous audio effects on a single channel in a myriad of ways: serial, parallel, or split by channel or frequency band. With Studio One 5.2 using Splitter is now easier than ever. Simply drag a new Splitter plug-in from the Browser to any Insert slot to split the signal path of that channel, then add more plug-ins to any of up to five paths. Splitters are now shown inside the Inserts section of the console, so it only takes a quick glance to identify which channels use parallel processing and a single click to open the Channel Editor to view and adjust routing.


When you're ready to rock, but not ready to disturb the neighbors, the Studio One Ampire plug-in has your guitar and bass amplification needs covered—and then some. We scoured auction sites and shadowy pawnshops to collect five of the most sought-after amps that are responsible for a million hit songs, and the boys in Hamburg employed our State Space Modeling technology to emulate their circuit behavior down to the last freakin' capacitor. Oh, and we also modeled five additional classic stompboxes, and included impulse responses of 16 classic cabinets.

We've also updated the Pedalboard with new stompbox models for a total of 13 effects. Furthermore, Pedalboard can now be run as a stand-alone effects plug-in for folks who don't need amp and cabinet simulation. Synth users will find experimenting with Pedalboard to be quite rewarding. Studio One has always rocked but it's never quite rocked this hard.

Studio One Professional users enjoy the full Ampire experience - including VST3 and AU versions to use outside of Studio One - while both Prime and Artist editions are equipped with a basic version. Ampire is also available as a standalone plug-in.

Analog Delay

Create deteriorating echoes, echoes with changing delay and pitch, and retro flanging and chorus effects ideal for adding vintage character to your sound. Analog Delay emulates a vintage analog bucket-brigade delay and features a new State Space Modeled drive control to add natural analog saturation to the input stage.

Analog Delay is also now equipped with an exponential volume curve and dedicated Width and Ping Pong controls to give you even more tools to sculpt your sound.


Arpeggiator turns chords (as well as single notes) into arpeggios: rhythmic cycles of single notes, derived from the notes currently held. Arpeggiator creates repeating patterns of notes that can travel upward in pitch, downward, up-and-down, down-and-up, or in a randomized pattern. You can also use Arpeggiator to play repeated patterns of whole chords or note patterns that follow the order in which the notes are played.

Going beyond the basics, you can use the Pattern function to create rhythmic Patterns of velocity and note length that the arpeggio follows as it plays, opening many creative options for repeating musical articulations.


Create complex, tempo-synced, rhythmic filter patterns and lush filter sweeps with Autofilter. Featuring two resonant filters with eight selectable Filter Modes, Autofilter lets you modulate filter cutoff frequencies and resonance with an LFO using standard waveforms, a 16-step sequencer, or an envelope follower. The new State Space Modeled Drive stage lets you add natural analog saturation for vintage character.

Beat Delay

Create pulsating patterns and complex polyrhythms with Beat Delay, a tempo-synced delay plug-in with optional cross-delay and filtered feedback. Use this effect to change the feel of rhythmic parts by adding off beats or create spatial doubling and slap-back effects.

Binaural Pan

Binaural Pan is a panning effect that employs phase-manipulation to alter the perceived width of stereo signals, from mono to double the normal width. Use Binaural Pan on any stereo track to tightly control its stereo width and pan, and check for mono compatibility using the Mono switch.


Perfect for audio abuse, Bitcrusher combines overdrive, bit-depth reduction, downsampling, and clipping into a single plug-in. Bit-depth reduction and downsampling are both digital-resolution reduction techniques but each has its own sonic effect. When used in combination, they create a wide variety of tonal options to distort and warp your sound.

Channel Strip

Channel Strip features four powerful processors in one, including a low-cut filter, compressor, expander, and three-band parametric EQ. Channel Strip optionally applies automatic gain correction to the EQ so that the input-signal power matches the output-signal power. Use Channel Strip on any mono or stereo track that needs basic channel processing.


Chorder is an intelligent chord generator that lets you trigger chords by playing single notes. You can set chord intervals manually or capture chord shapes played on the keyboard. Each key can trigger a different chord of your choice, or you can choose a single chord shape to play across multiple keys. Select which part of the keyboard you want to trigger chords from and trigger chords with one hand, while playing single notes with the other.


The Studio One Chorus plug-in will let you thicken up guitar, vocal, or synth parts with lush, modulating textures. Choose one-, two-, or three-voice chorus processing and set an optional LFO delay time modulation, as well as a Stereo Width control. Whether you're creating a dreamy vocal or performing a Rush solo, Chorus delivers a lush, immersive effect.

New in Version 5: Chorus enjoys a new, custom, vintage-style user interface.


Compressor is a full-featured, RMS-based mono/stereo compression processor with internal sidechain filter, external sidechain capability, a variable ratio up to 20:1, optional look-ahead compression, and robust metering for level, gain reduction, compression curve, and threshold. Use this effect to reduce the dynamic range (signal peaks) of any signal. An easy-to-use Sidechain feature lets you use an external signal to control the compressor behavior—or use the Filter for your internal and external sidechain.

Console Shaper

Console Shaper was the first plug-in developed for Mix Engine FX technology in Studio One. Utilizing state-of-the-art State Space Modeling technology, Console Shaper captures the character and personality of legendary analog consoles, going far beyond virtual channel strips and mastering plug-ins. When added to a bus channel or the main output, Console Shaper processes every channel routed to that bus independently, allowing the plug-in to transform the sound of an entire mix, while still maintaining the nuances and dynamics of every individual channel.

Dual Pan

Dual Pan is a fully variable stereo panner with Input Balance control, five selectable Pan Laws, and independent left/right panning. When you need granular control over your stereo image, Dual Pan has you covered.

Easy Sidechain Routing

Every Studio One Native Effects dynamics plug-in has easy sidechain routing so you can get the sound you want without routing headaches you don't need. Sidechain routing can be controlled both to and from the plug-in with one click.


Expander is a fully variable downward or upward expander with range control and a sidechain, including a sidechain filter with variable low-cut and high-cut. Use Expander to decrease the levels of unwanted noise or bleed from other sources in the desired signal or to restore dynamic range to a compressed signal.

Fat Channel XT

Originally designed for integrated compatibility between Studio One and StudioLive mixers, Fat Channel XT brings award-winning StudioLive processors and State Space Models of vintage EQs and compressors to your DAW of choice. Fat Channel XT was designed to be the ultimate channel strip for any input or bus, with a variable high-pass filter, gate/expander, compressor, EQ, and limiter—all in one plug-in. In addition to the classic StudioLive compressor and EQ modules, you get two State Space Modeled compressors and EQs re-created from coveted vintage studio gear. Need more virtual analog goodness? Fat Channel XT can be expanded with any or all of the eight compressor and seven EQ models in the Fat Channel Collection (included with a PreSonus Sphere membership).

PreSonus developers stand at the forefront of State Space Modeling technology, and they put their expertise to good use when designing the latest-generation Fat Channel XT by adding hybrid State Space Models of vintage compressors and EQs. PreSonus offers eight additional compressor models and seven additional EQ models as add-ons.

Compressor offers the following choices:

Standard. A flexible, modern compressor with a clean, hi-fi sound.

Tube. A model of one of the best-loved vintage tube-based opto-compressors. Excels at vocal smoothing and at making bass instruments sound larger-than-life.

FET. A model of one of the most-used vintage FET-based compressors. Great for adding an aggressive edge and accentuating room sound for drums, guitars, and other highly transient signals.

Equalizer offers the following choices:

Standard. A flexible, full-featured modern EQ with a clean, hi-fi sound.

Passive. A model of one of the most sought-after vintage tube-based passive EQs. Deceptively simple controls and a rich, thick sound make it perfect for gentle tone-shaping or adding vintage character.

Vintage. A model of what some call the "final word" in vintage solid-state EQs. Combines an "everything sounds better through it" quality with musically chosen EQ frequencies for quick, reliable tonal magic.

The vintage compressors and EQ in Fat Channel XT are meticulously re-created from the original analog circuits, using State Space Modeling technology. This same technology also powers the Ampire amp models, Channel Strip Collection plug-ins, and the Studio One Console Shaper, ensuring that the nuanced, variable sonic character of analog survives its transition to the digital realm.

Fat Channel XT is also available in AU, AAX, and VST3 formats for use with other hosts. A complimentary license for additional Fat Channel XT formats is provided for Studio One Professional owners. When you're ready for more models, Fat Channel XT can be expanded with Fat Channel Add-ons (included with PreSonus Sphere membership).


Flanger creates spatial depths, swirls, timbral shifts, and percussive effects. Perfect for use on guitar tracks to create interesting shifts in timbre and tone, Flanger can help create lush synth sounds, as well.

Flanger works by splitting an audio signal into two identical signals; applying a varying, short delay to one signal; feeding its output back to its input by varying amounts; and mixing the processed and unprocessed signals. You can modulate Flanger's delay time with an LFO, which can be tempo-synced for perfectly timed effects.


Gate is a noise-gate processor with Range control. It features sidechain capability with a sidechain filter that includes variable low cut and high cut. Use Gate to eliminate unwanted noise or low levels. Alternatively, use it creatively to control the level of one source from another—ideal for producing rhythmic pumping and glitch effects using the sidechain—or sidechain it to your favorite virtual instrument and let Gate do the sample replacement for you.

Groove Delay

Groove Delay is a four-tap, tempo-synced delay with variable filters and an independent beat grid. Use Groove Delay to create tempo-synced delay patterns ranging from simple subdivision taps to intricate, evolving grooves or granular effects. Two X/Y grids let you control the cutoff, resonance, and bandpass filters simply by dragging a point across the grids. Each tap gets its own independent filter, and the Groove parameter lets you adjust the delay time relative to the Beat setting to create evolving polyrhythmic beats, mind-bending pitch shifts, and more.

Input Filter

Input Filter lets you filter out unwanted notes before they reach your instrument or MIDI device. You can specify a range of allowed note pitches and a range of allowed note velocities; all notes that fall outside of either of those ranges are stopped.

IR Maker

IR Maker is a utility plug-in that allows you to capture your own impulse responses for use with the PreSonus OpenAIR plug-in, the cabinet section of Ampire XT, and any other host/IR loader applications. Capture the ambience of your favorite real-world acoustic spaces for later use in Studio One. IR Maker also features automatic latency compensation to make creating custom impulse responses quick and easy.

Level Meter

The Level Meter plug-in is a level meter that can be set as a horizontal or vertical display and sized as large or as small as you like. Choose from Peak/RMS, K-20, K-14, and K-12 modes; set RMS and Hold Length; engage to display phase correlation; even display True Peak metering. Throw Level Meter on your main bus, and you'll always have an eye on your mix.


Limiter2 is a brickwall limiting processor with optional K-System Metering. Use it to prevent your output signal from clipping, or to maximize signals with very dynamic peaks. Limiter2 has received a major overhaul in Studio One 5 and now features three attack speeds and two different modes to control distortion.


Mixtool provides common track utilities, including a Gain control, independent left- and right-channel inversion, left- and right-channel swap, and Mid-Side transformation of stereo signals. Use Mixtool when inverting channels to correct for phase cancellation and correlation issues, as well as to provide additional volume trim options anywhere in the signal chain and independent from the main channel fader. In combination with Studio One 's easy parallel routing, Mixtool allows you to use any conventional plug-in for M/S-processing.


MixVerb is a simple and efficient reverb that is meant to be used as an insert on mono or stereo tracks. MixVerb features adjustable size, pre-delay, and damping, as well as an adjustable gate and stereo width control. Use it to add just the right amount of atmosphere to any signal.

Multiband Dynamics

Multiband Dynamics is a compressor/expander with five completely independent compression/expansion bands, optional simultaneous adjustment over all bands, and multiband metering. Use it to reduce unwanted signals or banded noise and to emphasize or limit certain instruments. Multiband Dynamics is great for mastering compression on a complete mix and easy de-essing by applying compression only to the offending sibilance frequency range. Multiband Dynamics can also be easily sidechained for parallel compression and more.


OpenAIR is a highly efficient convolution reverb capable of delivering ultra-realistic reverberation based on impulse responses captured from both real spaces and classic hardware reverbs. Use OpenAIR to add lush reverb to your recordings and employ the integrated 4-band EQ to shape your sound. Take your own impulse responses with IR Maker and re-create your favorite real-world acoustic space in your mix.


The Pedalboard plug-in features the same modeled pedals as Ampire, without the amps and cabinets. The same nerdy State Space Modeling technology that made our amp modeling possible also drives 5 of the 13 stompboxes included in the Ampire Pedalboard. So for non-guitarists looking to use stompboxes to warp their vocals, drum machines, keyboards, kazoos, or any other audio source, this Pedalboard is just for you. Best of all, version 5.1 now lets you drag and drop stompbox settings between Ampire and Pedalboard, so go ahead and steal that Big Fuzz tone from your guitarist... we won't tell.

Pedalboard includes the following stompbox effects:

  • Big Fuzz: This distortion pedal is responsible for so many classic riffs it would take a supermassive black hole to hold them all.
  • FAT: This 1980s popular pedalboard staple provides three controls to shape your tone for just the right amount of aggression.

Phase Meter

The Phase Meter is helpful when checking stereo playback issues and mono compatibility. There are two components to this meter: a large goniometer at the center of the plug-in window and a correlation meter at the very bottom. The goniometer displays left versus right channel amplitude on several axes. The correlation meter shows an average of the audio signal's phase relationships.


The unmistakable rising and falling effect of a phaser may have been popularized by guitarists of the 1970s but it sounds good on nearly anything: synths, drum overheads, and even vocals.

Phaser works by applying a variable number of allpass filters in series (one fed into the other), along with one overall feedback loop, to the input signal. An LFO modulates the center frequency for each all-pass filter. The allpass filters function as frequency-dependent delays, so that when the filtered output is added to the original input signal, certain frequencies can be attenuated or amplified as the result of phase shifting.

Pro EQ2 is a seven-band parametric equalizer with optional spectrum metering; variable low-cut, high-cut, low-frequency, and high-frequency multimode filters; and an optional Auto-Gain output gain setting. Use Pro EQ on any mono or stereo track to accurately apply precision equalization to any signal.

Pipeline XT

Studio One Professional's unique Pipeline XT plug-in lets you use your beloved collection of boutique, vintage, and classic analog hardware signal processors as easily as software plug-ins. Latency compensation is included, so you can easily mix and match your plug-ins and hardware. Dust off that RE-501 and get to work.

Pipeline XT makes it easy to integrate hardware processors with plug-ins, managing the signal flow to and from the external processor. Simply click the Auto button after setting up the send and return connections, and the latency will be measured and compensated for automatically. You can then use the Offset parameter to make manual adjustments, up to a maximum of 32,000 samples.

Although Pipeline XT is a stereo plug-in, it supports mono sends without losing a second hardware output—perfect for use with mono-in / stereo-out processors. A notepad lets you add text notes to your presets to document specific setup instructions and parameter settings for your hardware processor. You can even take a photo of your hardware processor and drag it into the Pipeline XT center display to capture hardware settings for later manual recall. Click on the image to expand it to full size and switch between image view, ping view, and oscilloscope. Background colors, device names, custom images, and text notes are all saved with your song and Pipeline XT presets.

Pro EQ2

Pro EQ2 is a seven-band parametric equalizer with optional spectrum metering; variable low-cut, high-cut, low-frequency, and high-frequency multimode filters; and an optional Auto-Gain output gain setting. Use Pro EQ on any mono or stereo track to accurately apply precision equalization to any signal.

The essential Pro EQ plug-in received several major enhancements in Studio One 5, including an additional phase linear low-cut EQ with three fixed values (20 Hz, 50 Hz, 80 Hz) and a variable slope. A 12th-octave spectrum display mode has been added, so you can view spectral information superimposed on a piano display. A dedicated input meter, adjustable meter range, and peak hold have also been added.


A user favorite since Studio One version 1, RedlightDist is an analog distortion emulator with teeth. Run your audio through up to three stages of tubes, transistor, op-amps, and fuzz to add just a little noise or pure distorted delight. An internal filter provides even more control over the distortion color, from rich and fuzzy to ear-piercing noise.


Repeater works just like it sounds: It creates rhythmic repetitions of the notes you play. These repetitions can be simple copies of incoming notes or can change in velocity, gate length, and pitch as the pattern plays.

Room Reverb

Room Reverb is a room-simulator reverb plug-in that lets you create virtual room models to add just the right amount of ambiance to your productions. Four different room models can be customized using variable room parameters like size, width, and height, as well as the distance, asymmetry, and relative height between the source and the listener. Add in room character parameters like dampness, reflectivity, and population, and you can re-create just about any space you can imagine.


Rotor is a rotary speaker effect that simulates the sound of a tube-powered amplifier with independently rotating high-mid horn and bass woofer to add motion and a unique tonal character to organ sounds, guitars, or anything you want to try. Each speaker's rotation can be set to a range of speeds, with realistic braking and acceleration effects when changing speeds.

Rotor now features a new State Space Modeled drive stage to add natural analog saturation for even more vintage warmth.


The Scope provides functions an engineer would expect from a digital oscilloscope, useful for debugging common problems in the studio like analyzing crosstalk and noise levels.

There are three signal channels and one math channel. Each channel can either show the left or right signal of the Insert Channel, or sidechain input, while the math channel can show the difference between two of the signal channels. (B and C can be inverted to sum instead, or to do a polarity flip.).

Each of the channels can be scaled and offset in the y axis, and scaling is shown as a percentage of full scale per division. (Full scale is 1.f, equivalent to 0 dBFS.) All channels can be activated/deactivated by clicking on the colored channel letter.

The time (x axis) can also be scaled and offset. This setting is for all channels. The units follow the samples/seconds switch on the left, and offset is shown with a green vertical line.

Spectrum Meter

Spectrum Meter is helpful when determining the frequency content of an audio signal. For instance, you might know that a drum loop needs some EQ, but you might not be sure what frequencies to bring up or down. Or there might be an annoying ring in a guitar part that you want to get rid of but you don't know the frequency of the ring. Spectrum Meter can help diagnose these problems and many others.

Choose from a wide range of visual metering styles, including FFT, Oct-Band, 3rd-Oct-Band, and Waveform. Spectrum Meter also features various settings for customizing the level range and frequency range, as well as the graphic size for even more granular visual information.

Tone Generator

Tone Generator is capable of generating noise, frequency sweeps, and other signal types commonly used for signal-path testing and calibration. Use the Scope plug-in in conjunction with Tone Generator to analyze return signals at the end of the signal path being tested or calibrated.

Need some extra oomph in your kick drum or cajón? Use Tone Generator in gated mode to add an 808 feel without any extra programming.


A three-band compressor with automatic threshold and ratio setting, Tricomp can be used to finalize your mix or add brilliance and punch to frequency-rich signals. With Studio One 5, Tricomp sports a new State Space Modeled drive stage to add natural analog saturation and vintage character and can be easily sidechained right from the plug-in window.


The Tuner proves invaluable when inserted on guitar, bass, and other instruments that require frequent tuning. The Tuner features a switchable standard/strobe display, with exact Frequency and Difference readouts in the upper left and right-hand corners. A Calibration knob enables calibrating the Tuner to a center frequency from 415 Hz to 465 Hz. Click on the Strobe Mode button to enable the strobe display, in which the rotation speed is a measure of the amount you need to tune.


X-Trem is a tremolo effects plug-in that applies amplitude modulation at a varying amount and rate over time. X-Trem also features tempo sync and a variable LFO with selectable 16-step and 16-gate sequencers, as well as auto-pan capability. Use X-Trem to create anything from subtle shifts in amplitude to tempo-synced, glitchy, gated drums; trancy, gated pads; panned hi-hats; and other popular sounds.

In this spirit, we developed Mix Engine FX, a processing technology that affects your music across all channels, rather than just in a single channel, as with a traditional plug-in. This allows for vintage-inspired artifacts like console crosstalk, surface noise, tape saturation and bleed, and more. You can apply it to any channel or bus—even the mains. Unlike conventional plug-ins that can only process a single channel, Mix Engine FX apply processing at a much deeper level, across any number of channels and even in between.

The Arranger Track is a simple, intuitive way to reorder, duplicate, and remove Song sections like verses and choruses. Try out different arrangements, swap sections, lengthen or shorten solos, and structure a Song exactly the way you want with a simple drag-and-drop.

When you insert a new section in the middle of a Song, Studio One automatically inserts space for the new material and then closes up the arrangement around it. And when you cut out a section of a Song, you don't need to cut, copy, and paste; just delete the region, and Studio One closes up the cut portion automatically. This isn't just about the time you save but about a smoother, more accurate workflow.

Edit audio and MIDI....fast.

Clip Gain Envelopes let you polish performances or remove glitches with adding a plug-in to your effects chain. Convert audio to MIDI and audio to MIDI with a simple drag-and-drop for blazing fast sample replacement. Replace drum sounds with samples just by dragging the source track to an Impact XT track. The combined Arrow and Range Tools boost your audio editing efficiency by merging the most frequently used tools into one. Select, move, split, or duplicate Events; trim start- and end-points of Events; adjust fades; and change the overall Event level in one seamless action.

Audio Clip Versions

New in Studio One 5.2, you can now create new versions of audio clips to add more creative freedom to clip-based editing. Use multiple versions of a clip that references the same audio file to try alternative edits with Melodyne, Bend Markers, or Gain Envelopes to dial in just the effect you need.

ARA 2.0 support (+custom integration)

Studio One Professional has the Technical Grammy Award-winning Melodyne Essential built right in, giving you single-keystroke access to the world's greatest pitch-correction software. Give those pitchy vocals a gentle nudge closer to home, revoice or harmonize vocals, tune that bass, or apply liberally for extreme vocal effects.

Studio One's ARA 2.0 support means this sort of audio manipulation works fluidly and seamlessly—and also opens the door for other developers to create pitch- and time-focused software that plays well in Studio One, including (but not limited to) Antares Auto-Tune Pro and Synchro Arts VocAlign-series products, including VocAlign Ultra and ReVoice Pro While other DAWs may have Melodyne, we had it first, and we helped develop the ARA extension with our friends at Celemony. As a result, no DAW is more seamlessly integrated. Studio One even goes beyond ARA by making Melodyne's tempo and chord detection available directly to the respective Tempo and Chord Tracks.

Clip Gain Envelopes

The newly added Clip Gain Envelope is the perfect tool for correcting sections of audio that are either too loud or too soft, without adding a compressor or limiter plug-in. Add breakpoints to the Gain Envelope simply by clicking on the curve and dragging the point to your desired location. Changes to the clip gain are instantly reflected in the audio waveform so you have a reliable visual display of the overall level. Furthermore, Clip Gain Envelopes are sample-accurate, so they can be used to fix everything from entire voiceover takes to single clicks and pops.

Clip Gain Envelopes are independent from Event Volume and Fades. They're even better because the gain envelope is clip-based, so gain adjustments are automatically applied to all audio events and parts that use that same audio clip. So you only need to fix it once to fix it everywhere it's used in your session.

New in version 5.1: Clip Gain Envelops can now be bypassed from the Event context menu and the Event Inspector, making it quick and easy to compare the result of your Gain Envelopes without losing any of your adjustments.


Studio One 's Comping tools make the once-tedious task of assembling a perfect take simple, efficient, and fun. Simply set up some loop points and record take after take without ever stepping out of your groove. When you've built up enough layers, use the Range Tool to promote the best parts to your main track. You've got a perfect take, and all you had to do was press the Record button and jam for a few minutes.

Studio One offers two methods of comping: quick-swipe or manual. Choose the workflow you prefer.

Layers and Takes

With Studio One's Layers and Takes, you'll let music drive your performance instead of perfectionism. Simply set a couple of loop points and activate Studio One's Record Takes to Layers option, and just jam. Each pass through the loop will record your performance to a new layer. Repeat your performance over and over again until you get a perfect take...

... or not. Because thanks to Studio One's innovative comping system, assembling a perfect take from several layers is a simple matter of highlighting the performance elements you want to keep. It's the lowest-stress manner of recording available anywhere.

Multitrack Drum Editing

When it comes to multitrack drum editing, Studio One provides a robust suite of tools and features, including grouping, guide tracks, transient detection, and various slicing and time-stretching methods—all inside the convenient Audio Bend Panel. It's like having your own personal rhythm investigator on the job.

Once you've found the way you like to edit drums, you can preserve your setup to make the next session's drum editing go even more quickly.

Podcasters and voiceover producers will appreciate the new Podcast Production Template we've added to Studio One —but we didn't stop there. We also added a new Macro Toolbar page featuring macros and commands tailored to the specific needs of podcasters and audiobook producers.

Smart Tools

The combination of the Arrow and Range Tools boosts your audio editing efficiency by combining the most frequently used tools into one. Select, move, split, or duplicate Events; trim start- and end-points of Events; adjust fades; and change the overall Event level in one seamless action. Simply mouse over the upper or lower half of an Event to edit with the Arrow or Range Tools, respectively. Studio One's smart tools change dynamically to stay in the moment with you. This saves a lot of time on menu navigation and tool selection. You'll be amazed at how quickly you get used to this one.

Editing note events in the Piano View is faster and easier than ever in Studio One 5.2. When editing Note events inside the Piano View, the Arrow Tool turns into a real "Smart Tool" at higher zoom levels—without ever having to switch tools.

In addition to selecting, moving and resizing note events using the Arrow Tool, the following additional functions can now be changed all with the same useful tool:

  • Note velocity.
  • Mute/unmute event.
  • Split note event.
  • Split note event and part.
  • Glue adjacent notes.
  • Time Lock/Edit Lock.

Individual Audio Events, Audio Parts and Instrument Parts in the Arrangement window can be Time Locked to prevent unintentional moving, or Edit Locked to prevent unintentional editing. A complete Lock for tracks is available as well. No more accidental edits.

You'll create beats faster than ever with Impact XT, our comprehensive rhythm production environment. Build your own sampled instrument with Sample One XT. From polyphonic analog to monophonic subtractive synthesis, Studio One has the sounds that make you want to create. Presence XT can be expanded with Add-on packs like Deep Flight One and PreSonus Studio Grand. Aux Channels let you easily use your hardware synths, drum machines, and groove boxes as part of your productions, so dust off that TX81Z or Portastudio and put them back to work. However you create, Studio One has a tool that makes the job easy.

Award-winning notation. Built in.

Modern composers need tools that let them incorporate electronic elements with traditional scoring. The new Score View in Studio One merges the best features of PreSonus' award-winning notation software, Notion, into Studio One 5. In addition to traditional notation, both drum notation and tablature options are also provided. You can view multiple staves at once to work on voicing, or view just one track at a time.

Score Editor

Based on our award-winning Notion composition and notation software, the new Score View lets you enter, view, and edit notes using standard notation. You can view multiple tracks simultaneously in a single Score View to work on voicing, or use Score View to edit one track while using Piano View or Drum View to edit others. The Score View can be detached from the Arranger window allowing you to view the same note data in different Views.

Notation is synchronized with Studio One 's note events in real time to provide a more natural looking score. It then applies Notion's formatting rules, such as note spacing, beaming, stem length and direction, enharmonic spelling, and articulation placement. Combined with its clean notation font, you get a readable result right out of the box.

Included with the Studio One Score View is a compact symbol set that lets you add trills, tremolos, arpeggios and glissandi, accents, and staccato, in addition to dynamics that affect playback in real time. Grand staff for piano and harp is also included, with the ability to move notes between staves. Studio One 5.2 adds support for both drum notation and guitar tablature.

The Studio One Score View supports manual, real-time, and step-by-step note entry with the option to audition each note on input. Note durations can be selected from the toolbar or with a keyboard shortcut. Adjust pitch simply by dragging with a mouse or with a keyboard shortcut so you can work the way you like. Time and key signature changes are automatically added from the signature track note pitches are spelled enharmonically according to the key signature you set.

Studio One 5.1 added several key features to Score View including the ability to print directly from two new page views. You can view a full score of all selected tracks or an individual part. A new Layout tab is included from where you can adjust page size, margins and various layout options including the ability to display notes in concert pitch or transposed as a player would read them.

A Track tab contains track settings such as name, abbreviation, staff type (e.g. a 'grand staff' for piano) and instrument transposition. To save time when setting up these options, you can just simply select from the included Staff Presets. For example, you can just apply the 'Alto Saxophone' staff preset to your track to automatically set up your track name, track name abbreviation, clef, staff type and appropriate transposition.

New in Studio One 5.2, Notes can now be entered into multiple voices for a single instrument. A new Voices icon in the Score View toolbar allows up to four voices per staff to be created. Select the desired voice, then enter notes and rests as normal—Studio One will automatically handle stem direction and rest positions. For existing notes, a new Send to Voice tool allows the notes to be reallocated to the other three available voices as required.

Score View will also reflect any Key Signature changes added to Studio One's new Signature Track with subsequent entered notes being enharmonically correct for the key chosen. All these new layout options and key signature changes will transfer with Notion when sending a score between applications.

Side-by-side Editors

View your tracks in different editors side-by-side. Multiple editor windows in Studio One can now be detached from the main window and positioned freely, including on separate monitors. Similar to plug-in windows, the detached Edit windows can now be pinned to lock their view state.

Articulations and Key Switch Editing

Studio One 5 features improved key switch integration for your favorite orchestral libraries and other virtual instruments to provide sound variations and performance controls. Key switches are now filtered and excluded from playback processing so you can take advantage of Note FX and Chord Track while still using your favorite articulations.

A new key switches lane has been added to the Note Editor to view and edit key switches in context. In addition, notes assigned as Key Switches are highlighted in the Piano View.

their names automatically. Other instruments (such as third-party samplers and orchestral libraries) can be mapped manually using Mapping Presets.

Aux Channels

Dust off that TX81Z. Your classic MIDI synths can now be incorporated into your digital productions as easily as virtual instruments. Introducing the Aux Channel, a new channel type that allows any external audio source to be fed into the Studio One Mixer without the need to create an Audio Track that clutters your session.

Simply connect your external hardware to any available input on your audio interface and mix their signals natively using plug-ins, sample-accurate volume automation, and more. Aux Channels can be mapped to external MIDI devices, so your hardware synthesizers and workstations will enjoy complete integration into your Studio One workspace. You can even add External Instruments directly from the Studio One Browser using drag-and-drop. This will automatically create an Instrument Track and the mapped Aux Channels, so you're ready to begin sequencing with real hardware—but with the ease of your favorite virtual instrument.

Impact XT

Impact XT is a comprehensive beat- and rhythm-production environment that is also seamlessly integrated with the ATOM pad controller. Create complete arrangements in one instance of Impact XT by launching loops that sync to your song with real-time stretching, beat quantization, and synced start/stop. You get 8 layers with 16 pads per layer. Drag-and-drop audio samples to any pad to instantly load it, then begin manipulating your sample with independent filter and amplifier controls for each pad. Multiple velocity layers let you create dynamic sound sets.

Mai Tai

A polyphonic analog modeling synthesizer with an elegant interface, Mai Tai produces sounds that can change character, with drastic morphing changes and unique timbres. Its Multimode Filter offers sounds ranging from vintage analog to state-of-the-art "zero-delay feedback filter." Mai Tai's oscillators and LFOs have a Free-Run mode, like an analog synth. Get modular synth-style operation for enormously complex sounds via Mai Tai's 16-stage modulation matrix. Mai Tai provides up to 32 synth voices, 2 oscillators with sine, triangle, saw, and square wave options; 3 ADSR envelopes; and built-in chorus, flanger, delay, and reverb. When you're ready to make unique sounds, Mai Tai can do it all.


Mojito is a monophonic, subtractive synth with built-in effects that can deliver a wide range of sounds, from resonant bass lines to funky leads. Mojito provides pulse and sawtooth waveforms, both rich in harmonics, which are passed through an analog-style, resonant, 24 dB/octave low-pass filter that can be modulated, singly or in combination, by key position; ADSR envelope generator; velocity; and a tempo-syncable LFO. An integrated FX section lets you add depth and color to broaden your sound. The Drive control can overload the virtual filter circuit to get the vintage feel you've been after.

Multi Instruments

Multi Instruments let you stack multiple synths and instruments, as layers or key splits, on a single Instrument Track and record, edit, and play them like a single Instrument. A Multi Instrument not only adds full control over keyboard and velocity zones, it also provides you with powerful Note FX routing options.

A fully customizable Macro Panel with eight assignable knobs and buttons and two X/Y pads gives you control over any parameter on any stacked Instrument or over multiple parameters on multiple Instruments at the same time.

Each Multi Instrument has its own Mixer channel, with each individual output of the combined Instruments as full-featured sub-channels. Process these outputs with plug-ins and sends, then save everything into a single Multi Preset. This opens a huge new range of possibilities for creative production and sound design.

Presence XT

Presence XT is a powerful polyphonic sample player with a deep multi-sample and layer architecture and built-in synth features such as filters, envelopes, LFOs, and effects. Presence XT is also equipped with articulation key switching and powerful scripting capabilities for nuanced, lifelike sounds. For example, many virtual guitars and basses have adjustable fret noise; the acoustic piano has custom controls for sustain pedal noise; all Hammond organ presets come with drawbar controls and switchable percussion; and strings and brass presets feature legato scripts. Additional Presence XT sound libraries are available as Add-ons.

The optional Presence XT Editor unlocks the full potential of Presence XT by adding total access to its sample editing, mapping, and scripting features. Every Presence XT Add-on library and the Presence XT Editor are included with PreSonus Sphere membership.

Sample One XT

Sample One XT is a sampling powerhouse. Sample, auto-slice, loop, stretch, process, trigger, and deconstruct audio (sampled from inputs or imported from a track) for breathtaking freedom in constructing powerful new performances and beats. Imported audio can be set to follow the song tempo, multiple samples can be mapped across the entire keyboard, and exported multi-samples can be used in Bitwig Studio, Sample Robot, and more applications that are being added all the time. Like your sonic creativity, Sample One XT is limitless.

Musical Editor Views can be selected on a per-track basis, so you can switch between the Score View, Drum View, and the conventional Piano Roll View—or look at the same note data in different Views all at the same time. Scores can be printed directly from Studio One. Staff Presets make it quick and easy to create lead sheets by automatically setting up the track name, cleff, staff type, and appropriate transposition for each instrument. You'll get the most out of the complex virtual instruments and orchestral libraries that are essential for modern composers. An extended mapping editor provides tools for managing complex articulation maps, and you can drag and drop Sound Variations into any order or place them into custom folders for lightning-fast navigation.

Studio One provides the next level in articulation support: Sound Variations. Sound Variations help you get the most out of the complex virtual instruments and orchestral libraries that are essential for modern composers.

The core of the new sound variations system is an extended mapping editor that provides tools for managing complex articulation maps. Sound variations can be defined by note events, MIDI CC messages, program/bank changes, or any combination thereof.

Give each Sound Variation its own custom name and color. Drag and drop sound variations into any order or place them into custom folders for lightning-fast navigation of even the most complex maps. The integrated keyboard makes editing and testing sound variation maps intuitive and fun—even without a connected keyboard controller.

Sound Variations can also be triggered by remote commands, including hardware controllers, keyboard shortcuts, custom macros or highly customizable custom layouts for Studio One Remote.

Use the Paint Tool to enter Sound Variations directly into the associated automation lane inside the Note Editor. Alternatively, select any number of notes and assign a Sound Variation from a convenient contextual menu. Of course, any keyswitch maps created in Studio One 5 or later will automatically be imported.

Instruments that send keyswitch assignments to Studio One automatically don't require manual mapping, but you can still create custom Sound Variation Maps for them. Maps are automatically saved with the Song—so the next time a preset is loaded, the associated Sound Variation map is loaded as well.

We've also added Dynamic Mapping; a special API that lets the best virtual instrument developers to support a special query in their instruments so that the currently available Sound Variation map is transmitted every time a preset is loaded so Sound Variation controls will be mapped to your controller automatically, saving you a lot of setup time. Current partners include all Vienna Symphonic Library Synchron-player instruments as well as instruments from UJAM, EastWest OPUS—but there are even more to come.

For libraries that don't yet support dynamic mapping, Art Conductor by Babylon Waves provides over 7000 templates for all major libraries including Spitfire, Eastwest, Orchestral Tools, 8dio and Cinematic Instruments.

As of Studio One 5.3, Sound Variations can be triggered by traditional Musical Symbols familiar to composers, and Dynamics symbols are tied to MIDI velocity, with customizable values.

Compose the way you want.

A new custom dynamic mapping API provides auto-mapping with third-party instruments from UJAM, Vienna Symphonic Library, and EastWest OPUS—with more coming soon. Sound Variations can be triggered by key switches, hardware controllers, keyboard shortcuts, custom macros or highly customizable custom layouts for Studio One Remote. New in version 5.3, Sound Variations can now be triggered simply by placing their mapped musical symbols onto the Score View, and dynamic markings are now tied to note velocity. Any musical symbols or dynamic markings entered into Score View will also be visible and editable in a new Lane of the Piano View. It's never been easier to use orchestral libraries to their fullest potential.

Performing with virtual instruments, plug-in racks, and backing tracks has become an integral part of contemporary live shows. Some DAWs make it easy to use virtual instruments or loops, while other applications make it easy to incorporate plug-in effects racks. Just about any DAW can be used for playback of backing tracks, but no single application has provided a solution for all three—until now.

Studio One 's new Show Page lets you add backing tracks, loops, virtual instruments, and plug-in racks for live musicians all from a single, intuitive interface that can easily receive content directly from any track on the Studio One Song Page. So, by the time you've finished up your studio session in Studio One, you're already more than halfway done with your stage production.

Step 1: Add Your Players

With the Show Page, Studio One is now part of the band. Use the Players section to add Backing Track, Virtual Instrument, and Real Instrument Players. The Backing Track Player has your pre-recorded material covered, including loop arrangements. The Virtual Instrument Player lets you create a virtual master keyboard from your favorite instrument plug-ins, and the Real Instrument Player opens up all your effects plug-ins to be used as an insert rack to process any live audio signal, letting you perfectly re-create your studio sound on stage.

Step 2: Make Your Setlist

A show is only as strong as its setlist. The Show Page allows you to organize and customize your setlist for any performance, regardless of how long you're expected to perform. You can name songs, change their color, reorder them, and set the Playback mode for each to continue to the next song, stop at the end, or loop. You can also add pauses between songs to make room for your witty audience banter. Add or cut entire songs easily for those inevitable last-minute changes. When the opening band's van breaks down just past that right turn at Albuquerque, you can extend your set without breaking a sweat.

Step 3: Create Your Patches

Once you have your virtual band and setlist structured, you have to give your Studio One bandmates something to play, and that's where Patches come in. If you're adding backing tracks, open the Studio One song you want to use and select Add to Show from the Song menu. Stereo mixes are instantly added to your new show. With Patches, you have full control of your backing track mix, including plug-in effects, without having to touch a single knob.

Want to use that killer synth lead from your studio production on stage? Open it up in your Studio One Song file and send the complete instrument and effects, or even a complete instrument rack, to your Show. Each song and player in your Show Setlist can use a different virtual instrument and patch. You can even create Multi Instruments with splits and layers to play several parts at the same time.

And when you're ready to set up your virtual effects rack for live instruments, the Show page provides you with a familiar workflow that any Studio One user will recognize: just drag-and-drop your favorite plug-in presets from the Browser to a Player and Setlist item. Want to use Ampire for your live guitar sound? Just drag-and-drop it in and use your favorite MIDI foot controller to make changes on the fly while you're on stage. Presets are converted to Patches that can be fine-tuned, updated, and even reassigned as you dial in your live sound.

External MIDI instruments are supported using Virtual Instrument Players. Patches can include program change and bank change messages so you can control an entire MIDI instrument rig from your Show.

Best of all, each setlist item can be equipped with its own Arranger Track, letting you assign different Patches to the same Player for different sections of your song or turn your song into a dynamic and interactive loop performance.

New in version 5.3, patch changes are instantaneous and seamless, with no audible gaps during playback, and you can instantiate new instrument Presets by dragging and dropping their Presets onto the Player Lane. Drag 'n' drop also now works for complex FX Chains in the Show Page.

Step 4: Setting Up Real-Time Controls

Most performances are not "set and forget." The Studio One Show Page gives you an easy-to-use control set for instant access to up to 24 parameters using knobs, buttons, or faders. Map each parameter to your favorite hardware controller, including PreSonus ATOM- and FaderPort -series controllers so you can control only the functions you know you'll need while you're performing your gig—and keep the rest out of the way.

Studio One 5.2 adds the Arranger Track to the Show Page, letting you experiment on the fly while you're on stage or live streaming from your studio. For each Arranger section in every Setlist song have a choice of five playback modes: Continue, Stop at End, Skip, Loop, or Loop and Continue; the last of which lets you repeat any section for a specific number of times before playback continues to the next Arranger Section.

Step 5: Perform Without Fear

When you're on stage, you have a lot of input taking your attention away from playing. That's why you rehearse until it's second nature. That's also why the Show Page provides Performance View, a streamlined, minimal interface that removes the features you only need during the rehearsal and configuration phase of your performance. In Performance View, you'll focus on just the functions you need to pull off an amazing gig—and, consequently, get booked again.

Use the new Patches View in Studio One 5.2 to see all the Patches for a given Player on an easy-to-read grid to quickly recall Patches for your virtual or real instruments, effectively turning Studio One into a powerful master (keyboard) controller. Or open the new Arranger View to see a grid of all available Arranger sections. Set each section to loop and Studio One turns into a powerful loop launcher.

From studio to stage to stream.

Studio One 5 takes you from the studio to the stage or stream with the Show Page. Create a Setlist using songs you're already created in Studio One, incorporating a mix of live instruments, pre-recorded tracks, and virtual instruments. Each song in the Setlist can have its own unique instrumentation that can be imported right from the original Studio One Song. Create new Patches and rearrange the songs in your set on the fly using drag-and-drop. The Arranger Track lets you alter your performance in real-time: loop sections on the fly, jump to a different part, and automatically change patches—all without missing a beat.

Perform without fear.

When it's showtime, turn on the clean Performance view with Setlist navigation and customizable, real-time controls over the parameters you want to adjust in real-time while on stage including levels, parameters, patches, and even launch and loop sections. Every performer on stage can use Studio One Remote v1.6 to control their performance from their favorite mobile device. Your studio sound is larger than life—now your stage persona can be, too.


When you're ready to rock, but not ready to disturb the neighbors, the Studio One Ampire plug-in has your guitar and bass amplification needs covered—and then some. We scoured auction sites and shadowy pawnshops to collect five of the most sought-after amps that are responsible for a million hit songs, and the boys in Hamburg employed our State Space Modeling technology to emulate their circuit behavior down to the last freakin' capacitor. Oh, and we also modeled five additional classic stompboxes, and included impulse responses of 16 classic cabinets.

We've also updated the Pedalboard with new stompbox models for a total of 13 effects. Furthermore, Pedalboard can now be run as a stand-alone effects plug-in for folks who don't need amp and cabinet simulation. Synth users will find experimenting with Pedalboard to be quite rewarding. Studio One has always rocked but it's never quite rocked this hard.

Studio One Professional users enjoy the full Ampire experience - including VST3 and AU versions to use outside of Studio One - while both Prime and Artist editions are equipped with a basic version. Ampire is also available as a standalone plug-in.

Macro Controls

To facilitate editing of the diverse sounds made possible by Studio One, each Console channel and Multi Instrument has a Macro Panel with eight knobs and switches that can be assigned to the most critical instrument or effect parameters. These Macro Controls, in turn, can be assigned to your favorite MIDI controller for hands-on fun with your sounds.

With Macro Controls, multiple parameters can be assigned to the same control, with independent Range/Polarity/Curve controls. Additional XY vector pads can be assigned with individual parameters; they can collapse/expand and are most useful when using a multitouch-enabled display.

Note Repeat

Fully remote-controllable from any MIDI controller, Note Repeat has its own section in the Record Panel where you can activate/deactivate it, quickly switch between different note values, and activate/deactivate Note Erase. Set the gate time for notes and use key or poly pressure to control note velocity. Quantize notes to the Song grid; when Quantize is inactive, notes are triggered instantly from a key or pad. Use Key Remote mode to control all Note Repeat functions from a keyboard controller. These are just a few of the new Note Repeat features.

Studio One Remote

Unchain yourself from the studio desk and record and mix with Studio One away from your computer using Studio One Remote for iPad, iPad Pro, Android, and Windows tablets. Control your mix, effects, and transport; trigger your custom commands and macros; edit inserts and sends; and access audio FX. Best of all: it's free for Studio One Artist and Studio One Professional users, as well as PreSonus Sphere members.

New in Studio One 5.2, you can now use Studio One Remote 1.6 on your favorite mobile devices as a master controller for your live performance. Take the Performance View with you on stage to take charge of your Show. Best of all, multiple devices can connect to the same computer running Studio One so each player can control their own patches right from their mobile device.

Mastering built in.

Studio One Professional is the only DAW that links songs and stems with finished, mastered Projects. Transfer mixes or mixed stems to the Project page for mastering—but if you hear anything you need to change, simply jump back into the Song to fix it; the revised version updates with a single click so you can continue mastering without losing any previous work. Use Studio One Native Effects and your favorite third-party plug-ins or external hardware processors to provide the final EQ, dynamics, and imaging control you need to create a professional sound.

Project Page

Studio One Professional is the only DAW that links Songs and stems with finished, mixed projects. Transfer Studio One mixes to the Project Page for mastering, and if you hear anything you need to change, simply jump back into the ong, make your tweaks, and then mix the revised version back automatically into the Project Page to continue mastering. Whether for Red Book-compatible CD burning, digital publishing for streaming, creating DJ sets and playlists, or professional-level DDP import/export for duplicators, the Song Page/Project Page partnership makes it easy to obtain consistent levels and tonal balance with collections of songs.

Songs and stems don't live in isolation. They're assembled into albums (or tracks, in the case of stems), distributed online as a collection of files, published as CDs for a band's merch table, or sequenced as a DJ set. In all those situations, the songs need to have consistent levels and tonal qualities, and the final mixes need to be taken to a radio-ready level.

For example, suppose you're putting together an album with 12 Songs, and you find the levels vary. No problem; you can balance the levels. But let's take this even further, where you find the vocals on track 3 are softer than the other tracks and not quite as bright.

Normally, you'd need to open the Song, make the changes, export the mix, import it into a mastering program, remaster it, and hope that it ends up sounding right in context with the other tracks. There's a better way: From the Project Page, open the Song Page in Studio One, make the edits, then tell Studio One to incorporate those changes when you switch back to the Project Page. Done—and now you can hear those edits in context with the other tracks.

From master to distribution.

Studio One's Project Page also provides powerful analysis tools, like spectrum analysis, M/S-processing, K-System and EBU loudness metering, phase meter, and oscilloscope to provide visual confirmation to what you hear, as well as help with conformance to existing broadcast and duplication standards. Apply processing to individual tracks or the entire collection, to take your masters to the next level. And when your masterpiece is ready, you'll find DDP export, CD burning, and direct upload to SoundCloud and PreSonus Sphere options to share your mastered recordings with your clients and collaborators—or release your albums to the world.

64-bit floating-point WAV recording and export

Studio One 5 provides the high-resolution audio production and mastering. With Version 5, Studio One now supports recording in 64-bit floating-point WAV format, the recommended recording format for audio interfaces with 32-bit resolution. With this format option, the maximum recording and processing precision now reaches 64-bit/384 kHz, making Studio One the highest resolution audio production and mastering software. When resolution matters, choose Studio One.

Mastering Tools

Studio One 's plug-ins provide the final EQ, dynamics, and imaging control that can make the difference between a track being "good" and "great." But you'll also find analysis tools like spectrum analysis, K-System and EBU loudness metering, phase metering, an expandable level meter, and an oscilloscope to provide visual confirmation of what you hear—as well as to help with conformance to broadcast and duplication standards. Publication and distribution

When it's time to publish, Studio One has all the bases covered: DDP export for duplicators, Red Book CD burning, disc image, and digital releases in multiple formats. Upload to PreSonus Sphere for backup and collaboration or use the integrated publishing direct to SoundCloud and release your new album, singles, or podcast to your fans.

Prepare tracks for streaming with data compressed, standard, or lossless files. AAF (Advanced Authoring Format) and MIDI files provide song/session exchange for those who haven't switched to Studio One (yet). Open all video and audio formats your operating system supports. Enjoy better video performance with 64-bit video engines for macOS and Windows, and export a video file with your embedded mixdown. Create disk images. Burn Red Book CDs. Import DDP files for editing, such as fixing ID tags or ISRC code errors, then export the corrected DDP file. Whether your music's final destination is online streaming or physical media, Studio One Professional has you covered. Most recently, we've added export support for variable-bitrate MP3, AAC, ALAC, and good ol' mono.

Versatile Import/Export format support

We know you work with other producers and other DAWs, so Studio One comes equipped with a variety of versatile import and export options, allowing you to move between applications quickly and easily. Studio One is my favourite DAW by far. After 15 years on Logic, i find in this DAW everything I need. A match between depth and really user friendly interface.

No one's done a Studio One 2.6 Win 7 review yet.

Here's an attempt from a MIDI composer who never records live audio.

I work from "electro" to "orchestra" to "live band", and all shades in between.


I'll not attempt to match feature for feature.

- as all sequencers do pretty much almost everything these days.

- and the key differences are found more in your individual approach to working.

- and the ability to work in your preferred genres, as required.


S1 works in a more Cubase way than an Ableton / Bitwig way.

But everything is far simpler and more obvious than the Cubase I knew.

- and infinitely quicker and easier than the Sonar I never loved.


I didn't believe the claims when I first came across S1 (back in the v1 days)

Nonetheless I downloaded the free Lite version.

- and in 30 minutes I wrote a piece without needing to look anything up. Not once.

It just worked.

There aren't many sequencers you could say that about.

All the grunt work has been taken out of editing & recording.

So audio clips sync as you drag them in.

- and converting a MIDI track to an audio track is an in-place bounce that's a single right mouse click away.

Ditto MIDI editing - obvious and easy.


Everything is stretchy, grabby, droppy, pully, squeezy tactile.

- like "big blocks for little hands".

You can easily make any sort of template - mixer, fx chain, hot key etc.

It's this stunning speed that I love the most.

And yet I'm still learning newer faster shortcuts.


In music you have to "catch the lightning when it strikes"

- and S1 is all about this. Speed of working.


The included professional quality effects are extremely good at what they do.

- and there's a comprehensive set of 40+ of them. Recommended.

Whatever you want - an instrument, an effect, a clip on disk, a mixer track moving, an audio clip tail micro-fading.

- just grab it and do what you will.

There are no hidden pages - just stuff that slides in and out, without blocking or obscuring anything else.


This probably isn't a very good review as I've left tons of stuff out.

This is because all I need is:

> the ability to work as fast & subtle as I can imagine.

> and a top pro spec to back it up.


Downside 1 is the MIDI controller works.

I've never reliably mastered it beyond the mod wheel (blush), in spite of trying.

But I don't believe anything outside of Komplete Kontrol delivers decent, reliable, never-ever-break, MIDI controller support.

So I forgive Studio One for this.


Downside 2 is that auditioning clips from disk won't shift pitch, only tempo.

I suspect this will be fixed with v3.


Downside 3 is that it's not really for DJs or matrix loop mixer-producers. Different concept.

And the forum is only so-so.


If you're out of love with your current sequencer.

- then go to Presonus and download the free Lite version.

- and be writing a song within the next five minutes.

It worked for me, and still does.
