To all the other software devs out there: build something like this without the iLok/challenge response crap and please take my money. :)
Sadly developers have to protect one way or the other or face mass theft :(
While I do think Air needs to make the offer better for existing customers, and they could take a page out of FabFilter's book on customer loyalty discounts, copy protection like iLok and Pace makes complete sense.

Michael Carnes said it best when he pointed out he's fantastic at making reverbs but not at designing copy protection. With iLok software might cost a few dollars more, but transferring software is a breeze (unlike eLicenser where you have to have a dongle present for a license to be transferred), and your purchased software retains far more of the original value.

In addition, when amazing software companies actually get paid for their software they are able to keep making amazing software. Dave from DMG Audio posted recently how it freaked him out to do a search and to see his software widely pirated. Developers who's software is pirated have to pay a service to get the pirate links taken down. The paying customers always foot the bill for piracy one way or another.

Agreed!

Been using the demo and it's capable of a lot more than I thought it would be, and it is easy to use.
Looking forward to the full release.

I thought Air didn't allow license transfers :?

Yeah, I'd heard that rumor, and it might well be true. I am not planning to see my licenses so a bit of a non-issue for me.

I wish they would confirm this one way or the other. I am kind of interested in Vacuum and Loom, but the lack of a demo trial and possibly not being able to resell if I don't like them puts me off. Audio Damage don't offer demos but they offer a refund if you don't like the plugin and they can be resold. No demo and no resale really puts me off though :(

Really?
I'm using the demo in late 70's inspired Electronic Rock (early Numan, Ultravox) and it's fitting in nicely.
There is always another way to use something, you just have to walk off the sheep trail

I'm going to trust their terms of service over a rumor...
Transfer to third party. If you are the person who initially licensed the software, you may make a one-time permanent transfer of your license and the software to another end user, provided that you do not retain any copies of the software and you follow inMusic’s license transfer procedures. For further information, please visit the Web sites listed at the end of this document. Academic (see section 3.5) and evaluation (see section 3.6) licenses may not be sold or transferred except where and to the extent that applicable law mandates that such a transfer must be permitted.

iLok support is built into the riser it will come to our other instruments in a free update. This lets you soft license or use a key as per your preference. Transfer is allowed once as indicated.

Hope you are enjoying the trial!

I'm enjoying the trial, it's a sweet plugin!

However I've never used iLok before. At some point I plan to buy a SSD and reinstall Windows, is it possible to just de-activate before reinstalling and re-activate once I'm done by logging back into the iLok account? Is there a way to back up the license data on the off chance my hard drive crashes?

I'm not a big fan of DRM due to added costs and potential failures. I just want to know that my investment would be safe without spending extra money to secure it.

I'm somewhat disappointed with how eLicenser handles things so I'm hoping iLok would be less hassle.

Hey there, absolutely its very easy to move your license using an Ilok account. You can unlock on two computers at a time with one license or put it on an Ilok key so you can move it about.

Your license is saved in your account so in the unfortunate event your system needs a re-install just login and authorize.
Currently the riser is the first Air instrument to support this but we will be bringing this to all instruments by way of free update.

The iLok does seem to be much simpler and less aggressive than the eLicenser system. I was able to de-authorize my demo license and then re-authorize it again so I assume it would be that simple for a regular license if I'm doing a reinstall? As long as I don't have to fork out extra money for a dongle I think I can live with this licensing scheme.

The video tutorial overview mentioned that more in-depth video tutorials are coming soon, is there an ETA on that?

I'm liking this plugin so far...going to try using it in a song or two but most likely I'll buy it when the trial expires. :)

Absolutely you dont need to buy the dongle but you can if you want. You can move your license at any time and there is no limit on moves just the two computers at a time per serial. Want more concurrent installs just buy another license.

Andy is currently busy in the studio once he is done with these we might let him out.
More videos will be hopefully coming from our partner Groove 3.
