I'd feel the same way about trading DIVA. I love it and I'd hate to lose it but finances here don't allow the purchase of any other synths at the moment so the only way I can get Repro now would be to cover the cost by selling something else. When I sold Zebra 2 several years ago I had a sick feeling in my stomach after doing so and I still miss it to this day.......braj wrote: I don't think I can trade or sell it yet without some penalty, it hasn't been 9 months or whatever since I bought it. Yes, REPRO is a diffrent kind of thing. The Original (Sequential Circuit PRO One + Polymode Version) has a crisp and very special kind of raw sound used by many Bands like SKINNY PUPPY and other industrial formations. The Mono-Version is somehow a PostPunk Machine. The advantage of this closed emulation-system for me is the limitation (no fear, sound design options due to modulation possibilities are fantastic). The Poly Version is able to make beautiful pads for example. What an addition and all for free for users of the REPRO 1!! To explain better how great this is from U-he: The makers of the additive VST-Synthesizer LOOM charges 50$ for an upgrade from LOOM 1 to LOOM 2 which only contains 3 little modules in addition. I know the original Synth from records and from some YouTube videos only. In comparisons (there is a great comparison YT-video for the poyphonic version out) the sound is so close to the original machines. But who cares? Regarded on its own, played in the studio environment they both just blow you away and you get a certain feel for its character. I love it.Dasheesh wrote:I’ve owned Moog knock offs, and owned and been around Dave Smiths half my life. If you want smooth and clean resonance go DIVA, and if you want wild and lively go REPRO. Granted, I havent tried repro yet, but I know what Dave smith’s are, and I own several U-HE.
DIVA on the other hand is great for exploring the possibilities of the many modules and their different combinations. For me its an analog-sounding-exploration-fun-garden at its best. As a person who loves to screw in own sounds its a sheer enlightment. It´s just crazy that you can explore the weirdest experimental sound-stuff within minutes by just changing some minor settings and screwing some knobs a few seconds. The possibilities are fantastic keeping in mind that the system is somehow limited; what I regard as a positive and creativily encouraging fact. The workflow is intuitive and that motivates a lot. If you like, DIVA will just sound as a real MOOG. I played a MOOG at a friends studio and know the sound of the MOOG from a thousand records. The sound and and the feel (very important aspect) of a real MOOG is definitely there...and right in your face too.
The name DIVA is a little missleading because this machine can get so nasty and dirty and so rusty and dusty. But also very clean and bright and full of powerful pressure. Experimental dreams come true. If Bands like THROBBING GRISTLE, PINK FLOYD and many more had such a machine back in the 70th...think about it.
I don´t know if I can judge it objectively but I think DIVA blew away my real ROLAND JUNO 106 and my real KORG POLYSIX with ease. I best can describe it that it sounds like ROLAND or KORG would have build their machines with the knowhow and the tec avaible 30 years later. DIVA isn´t as crazy as my real KORG MS-20 filter but it is a great thing for me that the DIVA MS-20 Filter sound like something different because I don´t need the same thing twice...and it sounds veeeery good and has an interesting timbre I like much. The JUNO module is fantastic too and I like it a lot more than the TAL UN-O emulation although it doesn´t sound so close regarded as an emulation but it just sounds awesome and nasty and powerful of its own. Can only compare one on one with the JUNO 106. Again I am very happy here to have DIVAs special own character. I even liked the digital OSC-module much and was surprised how it sounds within the different environments. With the voice manipulation-engine alone you even get a fantastic sound design tool on top.
All in all I think DIVA is the greatest synth in my arsenal right now and I own countless real analog and digital synth and a nice bunch of good VST-synths. The fact that there will be new modules in the future is exiting too.
In conclusion to the original question of this thread, REPRO or DIVA?, I want to say clearly: get them both. They are absolutely convincing in sound and they have a lot of design possibilities and character to satisfy even the most exigent Synth Geeks.

And than get ZEBRA 2, BAZILLE and HIVE too. And if you are a Synth Geek at heart get all the PPG stuff from Wolfgang Palm and if you are a real sound design monster get some granular-synthesis-tools to process them with. Right at the moment there is not much else which I have in mind what can really compete against U-he stuff. And when it comes to emulation the few great and round sounding things for me beside U-he Stuff are the OB-X II Pro and the free DEXED, which sounds better than the original DX7 in my opinion. Also good on its own are the free KORG emulations of Full Bucket Music. Okay its a subjective matter of taste

Diva is a really cool, synth but personally it's MS-20 part that I'm most interested in but I just can't get Diva to behave much like an MS-20. The oscillators are nice and beefy (something the Korg version lacks), but the filters just don't get there. I prefer TAL Uno for a juno and Monark for a Moog, so I ended up selling Diva a while back and not repurchasing though I've considered it. I keep going back and just wishing it had a little more Roland sheen and a more aggressive MS-20 filters. Not to talk bad about or anything, still a very respectable synth.

Haven't tried Repro, but I demoed Diva and loved it. It's on my list.
Related question, would you guys rather have one of Repro or Diva or the Arturia collection for analog sounds?

Personally I would probably take any u-he synth over the whole Arturia collection, but that's just me.Straight2Vinyl wrote:Haven't tried Repro, but I demoed Diva and loved it. It's on my list.

Diva is more flexible, more usable too (lower CPU). Repro sounds great but I would prefer to have something more versatile.

I'd also rather have just RePro than the whole Arturia collection. Same goes for Diva and Bazille.Echoes in the Attic wrote:Personally I would probably take any u-he synth over the whole Arturia collection, but that's just me.Straight2Vinyl wrote:Haven't tried Repro, but I demoed Diva and loved it. I'm lucky to have all the u-he synths...

I'd go Repro over Diva personally, and I love Diva. Love the immediacy and extremes of Repro-1 and the amazing pads and poly patches in Repro-5. Diva is more is an all rounder, but musically lit preferences always gravitate towards more specialist instruments and effects.

At some point I'll probably pick up both the V Collection(when it's on sale) and Diva, just a matter of what I'd grab first. I already have Monark which came with Komplete, so I'm at least covered for Mini Moog sounds. I should demo Repro too though I guess.pdxindy wrote:I'd also rather have just RePro than the whole Arturia collection. I'm for Repro1 & 5 although Diva is a great allrounder. I just love these emulations of old synths when done well, so after demoing Repro for a short while I had to buy it.
It's a bit more straight forward and doesn't take too long to get to know but can produce some amazing sounds.
This is a good video to show how close it sounds to the original:
