Want to try out your skills in other contests / competitions /challenges?
  • DiHalt Demoscene competitions
  • Indaba - Has a mix of popular and indie artists with various contests like remixing and song writing. Some people from OSC have had success here.
  • KVR Mix Challenge (see stickies) - Who can mix a song the best (Without adding extra recordings /musical additions)? Each person starts out with the same stems.
  • Music Cafe (KVR, see stickies) - A thematic monthly competition. Use recording, real instruments, synths and samples.
  • RemixComps - An aggregator for remix contests from a variety of artists and genres (mostly EDM) - indie and popular.
  • Skio Music Contests - Lots of remixes you can join (Mostly EDM) - big prizes.
  • Soundevotion (SDCOMPO) Competition - Even longer running than the OSC, the SDCOMPO is even more niche in that you must use a tracker, and set of specific effects. Great community.

A lot going on this this unique little beast! If you like exploring synths, I think you will love this one. Many ways to warp your waveforms, and they all seem to sound great! Interesting contrast to JuceOPL from an FM point of view as well.

I *think* it is stable enough for the OSC, time will tell :)

Bummer.. can't get it to show up in Studio One Pro 3 (Win7, 64-bit). :(

Developer is currently very active in the crust thread, you might want to try posting over there.

Synth looks interesting and should be fun. The dev is quite active and supportive.
But I think I will take a break this month.
Finally want to finish two "side projects", play with Transistow and lot's of other stuffs just waiting...
The qualifier "pre alpha" was just and additional motivation on top...

probably going to be the same issues we had with Fathom - getting all the right C++ distributables ...

Hmm, same DAW, 64-bit, Win10 - no problems here...

This synth is a lot more inspiring to me than JuceOPL! It's surprisingly sleek considering it's a "pre-alpha" - there are so many amazing sounds coming out of it so far - I think this is going to be a fun round for me.

Prolly a Win7 thing. I get a lot of issues with freebie plug-ins and whatnot not showing up, or crashing. Could also be any number of variables.. like stuff I'm running in the background, hardware, etc..

Who knows.

This synth is an unexpected delight to play with!

UI is rough but the sonic possibilities are awesome.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Amazing sounds so easy to come by. :o (We'll see if I still feel the same way when I try to create something specific, rather than just whatever it wants to do!)

I think this is the key ... creating the sounds you actually wish to use ... time will tell ...

I have no idea where I'm going yet with all these great sounds coming out of Crust - feels exactly the opposite of last month, at least to me. But I already know I want my War Drums and my primal "Yeeaaay!"

Ha! For me Doc, it's not really like that, in that I love the sounds that I have created very quickly, and very much wish to use them. That would be easy...
However, I also want to learn new things and new styles / techniques and not just submit music in my comfort zone (weird abstract electronica) every month, so that's where attempting some other sound design comes in for me :D

As this is now an OSC synth I have some crucial questions:
Does this synth have pitch bend range at all? I couldn't find any setting. It seems to be fixed at 2 semitones (could be worse..; - ).
Obviously it doesn't support MPE, but will it happen in the future? (Sorry this is the first and most important question I have to ask any synth programmer...; - )
Overall there is potential, will be fun to get into... How deep depends on the answer to the above questions, because I am mostly interested in the expressivity of a synth...
