A remarkable feat seeing nearly a 3rd of the filters vanished.
... and were replaced by others that are more than capable of doing the job

like i said, maybe you just dont know enough about synths to even try. Just looking at filter names doesn't really work...
Please elaborate, explicitly, on these replacement multi mode filters please. Why does it feel like I'm holding your hand while you are chasing your tail

for someone who claims to be a sound designer and sells soundbanks, you dont seem to know much about synthesis

have you actually tried copying a preset from D1 to D2/3?

didnt think so

when you know what you're talking about, then you can try holding my hand

Either way, i only use D3 as its far superior to D1 in both sound and options.
Depends on your perspective. To me, "superior" options would mean fewer options that better suit my needs, not more options that just get in the way of me getting stuff done.
if you dont use it, its not in the way

i don't use every element of D3 for every sound, i use specific elements for specific sounds

It's in the way when it adds clutter to already lengthy drop-down menus, for example, as is the case with the filters in DUNE. I'd prefer to have just the 4 or 5 filter types I am likely to want to use. Choice is good when it's meaningful but, seriously, 99% of the time I really don't care which low-pass filter model it is, they all do the same thing.

All this stuff comes from the absurd notion that every soft synth has to be all things to all people. I'd prefer to have a dozen different synths, each with their own unique character, instead of one synth with a dozen different characters built in, in much the same way that I prefer a set of spanners to a shifter (adjustable wrench). Of course, that would be a lot more work for developers so they keep pumping out these ubersynths and a gullible market keeps gobbling it all up.

I'm not very familiar with Dune 1 (had a CM version installed for a while but don't have it anymore ever since I gone full 64 bit)

But it seems TTU has the point, i think multimode filters must be able to output lp, hp and bp simultaneously or smoothly morph between them. I don't quite understand how it may be possible in Dune 2 - by using different filters for different layers? But setting it up and especially automating it seems like a major PITA, esp. compared to using just one filter. Dune 3 has dual filter where you can mix/morph its output, so it's somehow closer but still not exactly the same thing.

Also cross-osc FM, it seems that using an oscillator as a mod sourse for another osc's pitch is essentially the same thing but depending on how exactly the FM was implemented in D1 it may be different sonically.

I remember there was a very cool "alpha glider" or something patch in Dune CM (i think it was default) which I tried to recreate in Dune2 but failed, maybe I did something wrong.

Btw., does Dune CM/BE exist as 64 bit and how do I get it?

Yeah, Dune CM is 64-bit. It's on every CM issue in the CM studio plugins. Dune BE never went 64-bit.

DuneCM is 64 bit and you can download it from FileSolo after registering any CM mag by filling in the missing word from a headline to unlock it.

I must admit i haven't used it in ages though. :) Dune 2 was already a huge step forward IMO.

Dune 1 was one of those soft synths i quickly grew tired off, because i just couldn't get it to sound the way that i want. It just always had something unpleasant, thin, and lo-fi about it.

I think AM filters sound awesome, can turn a mediocre sounding patch into a classy one. I wish they were not only LP though (in next updates maybe?)

On the other hand, the cleaner classic filters, or sallen key, work better on certain stuff, so it's good to have options

Yeah. Of course, it doesn't sound bad for everything, it's just that it was quite lacklustre for me for most of the sounds i did with it.

Love Dune 1 myself. Version 2 and 3 sounds too digital and lifeless. And i hate the gui for v2/3
its like starwars, rocky, halloween, and Friday13th...
lots of sequels came out but the first ones are the best.

that makes no sense. we're talking about updated software, not movie sequels.

using that logic, an old sony picture tube tv is better than an led flatscreen; would you use an old tv? or drive an old car? use a telephone modem? an old cell phone?

some things get better, others don't. but, talking specifically about dune... if you prefer version 1, and can run it... that's great.

for the rest of us, dune 3 is a great advancement over the previous versions, and am happy about that. :D
always one plugin short of perfection...
