Q: Multi-pan-bands?

Just thinking out loud ...

In all of the plug-ins we can choose between several different channel modes (Left+Right, Left, Right, Mid, Side etc). And we already have separate multi-channel processing implemented (for 'Surround mode').

How about being able to split the panoramic field into several sections and process each one of those separately? For example:

would let me apply different Limiter parameters to each of the 5 pan sections. (Two bands divided at 0 would give separate processing of Left and Right).

I presume that the spatial split / merge can be done (after all the Stereo Graph in StereoScope can detect the position accurately).

The same principle could be applied to the Equalizers, with, say, 3 or 4 EQ bands available for each pan section.

Does any of this make sense? Musically? Creatively? Technically?

(I had been thinking of this for a while, but the brainworx plug-in bx_panEQ prompted me to post this here.)

I've been thinking about something similar, originally because I remember, and sometimes miss, an old plugin called Elevayta Extra Boy Pro (silly name). I couldn't help thinking that brainworx bx_panEQ was a sort of spin-off (even though they claim they did something "never seen before").

Anyhow I hope something similar, in the best refined Melda tradition, can be made... :ud:

Hmmm, I have absolutely no idea if it would make sense, but it's certainly worth thinking about :)

"Brainworx, the pioneering company that created the first Mid/Side equalizer plugin, has once again launched a game changer: bx_panEQ. This revolutionary panoramic equalizer will forever change the way you sculpt stereo tracks."

Holy crap :D :D. They did it again! :D :D Yep, so far all bx plugins I checked were primitive overpriced nonsense with lots of crap on the website and lots of lies of course :D... There's only one other company (noname) that I feel is making the customers idiots that much :D.

Btw, what they did with this plugin is primitive, the crossover will be a bigger challenge, but we'll see ;)...

or melda himself :tu: look at the website. i could quote similar bs from there. he knows best how worst and sophomoric marketing works (or may not work)

but in general i agree. such quotes are dumb. especially if you did not spent much time on investigation before.

Can't say :D. But not Waves actually, they are bragging about themselves, but so is everyone, including Melda :D, so no biggie. But I hate when someone is making fool of every customer... And the fun part is that people really believe that bx nonsense. I noticed at one point when bx_stereo got 10/10 in MusicTech. bx_stereo is a piece of crap implementing primitive idea known for decades (like most bx stuff), and nobody uses it anymore, because it just sucks... Well, not that editors in MT would be anyhow professionals... mostly student contractors probably...

Has anybody gotten around this properly yet? I’m tempted by the brainworx but the price is steeeep.
I will try the ddmf but I really like the display on the brainworx, though I think melda analysis would do a better job.
I just can’t find an elegant way to do this in mxxx.
Are they the only two plugins that do panoramic eq?
Cheers!
