Well I'm scrapping it anyway. The composition is probably poor. Hope you like what I've done to it since then. Workin on it now.

I'm interested to know why you went for that particular style of production. I was looking at your Instagram and the track here sounds a lot different to what you posted https://www.instagram.com/p/BnFV1X9gJPp/
Is that your own studio? I don't think I've seen so many screens in one place

Thank you very much for checking out my Instagram. Yes, that's my studio, and it has gotten a lot more established since then, meaning I am changing it a lot less and finding a more permanent and sustained workflow and setup.Vortifex wrote: Fri Nov 23, 2018 3:32 pm I'm interested to know why you went for that particular style of production. I love experimenting and trying new techniques. I have found that performance and production are two different ball games, and I see that in a lot more well known artists' work as well. For example, a lot of EDM artists record symphonies, while leaning towards dubstep at their concerts... I could name a dozen artists like that.

Can I give you some friendly advice? This is actually coming from personal experience.SawCeeJack wrote: Fri Nov 23, 2018 3:19 pm Well I'm scrapping it anyway. The composition is probably poor. Hope you like what I've done to it since then. Workin on it now.

I started recording my own stuff back in the 70s. I knew nothing about recording music. I did stuff similar to what you posted. Just kind of sound that had no structure and didn't really go anywhere.
I thought it was the greatest stuff in the world. When everybody told me how awful it was I thought they were just being mean.
Long story short, all those old recordings are in a landfill somewhere. I can't even listen to them anymore. That's how bad they are.
It's hard, but try to listen to your music critically and unemotionally. If a bunch of people tell you it's God awful, it probably is.
I have reached a point in my life where I realize I'm never going to be a great songwriter or producer. But I also know that I've gotten to a point where I'm at least an average amateur. My stuff is not unlistenable anymore. I actually get some nice comments. There are still criticisms as I constantly have to work on my playing and production skills, but for the most part, the feedback I've been getting this year has been encouraging. It took me over 40 years to get to that point.
You can't improve until you acknowledge that you need to improve. I do things this year that I never did before when producing a track. Sure, it's more work. And not all of it is fun. But if I don't do it, I'll never improve.
What you do with your music is up to you.
Ultimately, if you're happy with it, that's all that matters.
Just don't expect others to feel the same way.

well I'm locking the thread, you need to stop antagonizing members with personal attacks. Completely unacceptableSawCeeJack wrote: Fri Nov 23, 2018 3:19 pm Well I'm scrapping it anyway. The composition is probably poor. Hope you like what I've done to it since then. Workin on it now.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
